I think I made a strange decision when I decided to start reading Baldwin with 'The Fire Next Time'. So far it's great, but I didn't know it was non-fiction, and I hear he is more recognized as a fiction writer? What should I pick up after this to continue with James Baldwin?
Fiction: Go Tell it on The Mountain
Non-fiction: Notes of a Native Son

Do you know what might contain Sonny's Blues? Is that the same as Jimmy's Blues? I read that story once and dearly loved it.
Can anyone clarify what Baldwin means by this? This is sincere:
"*Protect your women*: a difficult thing to do in a civilization sexually so pathetic that the white man's masculinity depends on a denial of the masculinity of the blacks. *Protect your women*: in a civilization that emasculates the male and abuses the female, and in which, moreover, the male is forced to depend on the female's bread-winning power."
I don't understand what this may refer to, and it seems pretty weird.

Cook books.
DUDE
>leftist thought degrades into incomprehensible academic jargon
>the only people who can participate anymore are rich lifestylists who adopt the language for their identity politics
Don't blame academia, guys! It's all the fault of those lazy poors who don't want to learn about critical theory!
>>9869977
Adorno was a jew first and foremost. "Leftists" are simply those who go around parroting what those jews tell them to think without realizing the fundamental jewish interests behind the ideas.
don't mistake for global conspiracy what can easily be explained by plebbery
What would be the best order to read the following to elicit a fall into nihilism and subsequent revitalization?
-Bible
-Stoics
-Spinoza
-Feurabach/humanism/Marx
-Stirner
-Nietzsche
Bonus points for adding relevant literature (Sartre/Dostoe)
just kill yourself, mate

Unironically, unequivocally, insurmountably and incomprehensibly this
Nihilism is the ultimate philosophical doctrine for teenagers. It's juvenile and shallow, and its followers basically say, "Dude, nothing matters, I don't need to have an opinion about anything. I don't give a FUCK.".
ITT: People unsuccessfully try to prove me wrong.
I will take the bait just to be the first post.
What matters?
What?
>>9869633
you don't know what nihilism is
>>In this respect there is a marked difference between these visionary experiences and ordinary dreams.
>>Most dreams are without color, or else are only partially or feebly colored.
>>>Professor Calvin Hall, who has collected records of many thousands of dreams, tells us that about two-thirds of all dreams are in black and white.
>>>Only one dream in three is colored, or has some color in it. A few people dream entirely in color, a few never experience color in their dreams; the majority sometimes dream in color, but more often do not.
Really? Do any of you only ever have dreams that are in black and white?
I don't think I've ever heard of anyone whose dreams are solely monochromatic.
I can't for the life of me think of a single dream I've ever had that wasn't in color, Are Hall/Huxley just full of shit? I think they are.
>>9869600
yeah i dropped the book when he said that all dreams are colorless. what kind of dreams was this nigger having?
Huxley's eyes were notoriously shit, also my dreams' colors are noticeably weaker, which reminds me on Hume distinguishing impression from recollection.
>>9869600
I remember watching a video about how old people dreamt in black and white until color tv came out and then they started dreaming in color.
Come to think of it that sounds completely ridiculous but im sure the video is still up if you want to have a looksee

Milk & Honey was decent. I'm looking forward to the Sun and Her Flowers.
I seriously think that the hate on this board is because /pol/ and /r9k/ became stagnant and unfunny, so they flooded (and ruined) /lit/. She is a younger Rimbaud.
>Milk & Honey was decent
Nice try amateur, but this could only be bait because no real person would think that
>>9869424
No, she's more like Bukowski, in that she's writing 'free verse that's blandly confessional and seems to think cliches are folks or something.

Been reading through a few of Joseph Conrad's works and have gotten quite in to the late 18'th century setting. Does /lit/ have any favorite recomendations set during that time period, late or early?
