I am interested in finding a non-fiction introduction to Buddhism and meditation. I Live in America and recently found a Buddhist temple that welcomes new comers and teaches meditation. Before I go there I would like to become a little more knowledgeable on the subject. Any help would be appreciated

The dhammapada is probably good to start with. From there, it would probably be wise to start shopping between theravada and mahayana and vajrayana and zen... and your teacher will probably also suggest books of a certain sect.
>>
I've read and enjoyed rupert guthin's Foundations of Buddhism so I'd suggest that.
Gives a good overview of the history of buddhism and philosophical/religious ideas in it as well as the difference in texts and attitudes between theravada and mahayana.

I just dont give a fuck anymore
Every novel seems like children entertainment to me
All the drama is childish, the comedy is only funny in the literary context, characters are all the same person
Those awe inspiring passages vanish in nothingness

There is nothing to be said anymore. No more words, is over. No more literature

There are so many books I've loved, but I fail to see anything authentic in them now

What are we trying to make out of this
I wish I could be a plant with just one eye and just contemplate

For some reason, the only thing that makes sense to me is the idea of staying still with my eyes out of focus, and I don't know why

What is happening to me, I've been really depressed before, I'm talking the real deal
Now I'm not even confused
I can't even put it into words

What should I do? I really try to tell myself over and over again that life has a meaning, that I should do something, but I don't feel any kind of impulse

Is all air

He will never finish writing the books.
21 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9875122
That's what happens when the only reason you're a writer is for fame and fortune. He got rich. Literally zero incentive for him to finish.
>>
Stopped reading the Books, because this PoS keeps pushing the release back by 6 months to a year everytime he's asked about it.

At this point I am certain he's finished with the entire series, but just holding them until the HBO show, and its upcoming spinoff is done.

Unless the fuck croaks first.
>>
>>9875127
He wasn't even that popular before the HBO series came out

have more raw intellect than continentals

which is why mostly white men do it?
24 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
well seeing as Kripke revolutionized modal logic while he was still in high school

I would have to say yes
>>
agreed
>>
>>9875052
Well analytic philosophy is basically high-level mathematical logic whereas continental philosophy borders on high-level verbal masturbation so I'd argue yes although at the same time I also wouldn't say that's the only valid opinion.

Well it's just because it makes you look like an idiot and vonnegut is important to him. They're really nothing alike at all, so you just found a dumb way of saying "vonnegut is shit lol".

Have you read breakfast of champions?

"haha Vonnegut is a pleb redditor drugstore paperback author!!"
>fought in the second world war

>prison trains on the way to Saxony were bombed by their own side
>witness/survivor of the bombing of Dresden
>entire city enveloped in a firestorm

>Every book was written by an author who desired fame more than anything else, and truth, along with dedication or love for the craft, are secondary or tertiary considerations in all cases.

Prove me wrong

Before we prove you wrong provide some evidence for your claim.

Brandon Sanderson is known as one of the best modern fantasy writers, and he still manages to throw out 3-4 great books a year. He's prolific as fuck. He already got his claim to fame as the guy who wrote the best three Wheel of Time books (something that he was approached and asked to do, not a goal of his originally), but he continues due to his pure love of writing. He does lectures in universities on implementing magic systems in fantasy worlds, again something he isn't required to do for fame or money.

I think that you are a despicable person, Wolfsheim, and if your intention is to ruin my life I'll gladly ruin yours too, if that's what it takes to live or die with some dignity. Do what you will, but know that you already killed who I once was: you now contend with what you've created.
