I'm currently mapping out ideas for an allegorical novel narrated from the perspective of a toilet seat in a gas station bathroom. His life is great because every now and then hot girls sit on him, but also bad because fat truck drivers sit on him. Email me if you're interested in collaborating.

Why you must have there be a love affair with a woman who cleans said stall each day with the delicacy of one who is timid and shy and doesn't get out too often, and who, do to her dainty figure and prissy attitude is unaccustomed to such unseemly work. Each day after she cleans the seat to a shine, she leaves, and each day the bowl wonders when it will be the day she sits. But the days pace into years and the years into a decade. And finally it is the day. Yet she is weeping. And when she pulls her pants down, blood stains her white panties. She sits and passes the miscarriage through his soul, and he can do nothing but be inanimate. He cannot speak. He is in utter joyed and he is in utter pain. He wishes he had never met her, never been cleaned at all. He wishes he had been a stick of wood in a fire place lit on Christmas day.

I was reading The Bros K by Doestoevsky, and I got to the part where Ivan is discussing with Alexei over dinner about the atrocities that God allows on the earth.

Ivan explains that the turks would fondle the baby in front of the mother and then they would make it laugh. As soon as the baby laughed they would pull out their pistol and shoot the baby right in the face.

I had the brilliant idea of letting my 12 year old brother read just those few sentences detailing the murder of the babies. Initially, his reaction was that he laughed, but then I came home and he had told EVERYONE in my fucking house, and my sister came and confronted me saying that my little brother was disturbed by what he read.

I laughed it off and told her that he found it amusing, and that he even recounted to me that the vikings would toss babies into the air and spear them.

So when I went to confront my brother about why he had told everyone he said that he was in fact disturbed because of the graphic detail in which the book was written. I just said "that's because he was a good writer" and my bro laughed again. Yet, my family still thinks im some kind of youth corrupter.

I tried giving them the context behind why the story about the baby killing occurred in the book, but it still didn't fly.

Now my family thinks im some kind of baby killer I guess.

Has anything like this ever happened to you?

PS I apologize for my bad wording. I have a bad hangover.

Where can I read Sun and Steel?

I looked on amazon but there are expensive copies

I've been reading Freud and I have just realised that when you apply psychoanalysis to conservatism the results are NOT good. Maybe conservatism, some forms of traditionalism, and white supremacy are mental illnesses.

Only still scratching the surface of Freud, but so far he has been fucking great to read.

What does /lit/ think about Terry Pratchett? Prolific writer but seemingly not as appreciated as King. Is he not tight and solid in terms of content?

He's more insightful and complex than King. This kills the normie.

I love him, but can't read his stuff. I don't fucking know why. I have, 5 or 6 books of his, but I've only been able to read THUD!! in it's entirety. Maybe I'm only in love with the concept of him.

His stuff is simply more niche than King

>Or is it virtually all theological stuff?

Dude everything from Plato all the way up through Hegel is theological, thats how philosophy was and still is in many cases.
You need to learn to be able to be a more nuanced reader if you can't see the vast philosophical implications that speaking of religion has that trascends the secular-theological divide. In the end its still equally about love, life, ethics, power, metaphysics, meaning and the mind

My favourite Borges story is The Story of the Warrior and the Captive Maiden. I like the core idea of it better than the idea of The Circular Ruins, albeit it's not as clever, and the description of Droctulft is some of the most evocative writing anyone has ever accomplished.

I'm new to book reading so could someone help me out with some choices?

I'd like to start with the bestsellers and then deviate from that since if everyone read then then the general consensus is that they're good.

I ordered "A Game of Thrones". Everyone on the planet is jacking off to the show so I want to know what the hype is all about, but I can't watch the show since my expectations are too high.
I'm thinking on ordering some more since there's a discount on some of my other desired books. I'd really appreciate it if someone gave me their honest opinion.

this is the worst way to look at it. If you're starting out, what's important isn't getting the "best" books, it's getting books that interest you. You're building a foundation on which to build, not doing homework.

Do you already know what you like? or are you going in completely blind?
>>
>>9886150
I'm going in blind.

The only books I read are books I had to read for class like "Bridge on the Drina", "Crime and Punishment". Those 2 are the only ones I clearly remember.
