What do you think of Paulo Coelho ?
>>9900006
a literal retard, doesn't deserve to be even an e-celeb
>>9900006
He's going to win a Nobel
>>9900006
Never read him but i heard he writes literature for 40 year old moms, he is pretty popular here in Mexico
Okay so i bought a bunch of used books you guys reccomended me, I tried got all Greeks they had in store and bought others for the rest of the money
Now , in what order do I read them? Am i missing anything super crucial to understand one of these?
In order:
Antique Tragedies
Early roman history - Livius
The Leviathan
Alexander the great - plutarch
Gay Science
Nicomachean ethics
Freuds Dream Analysis
Illias & Odyssee
I don't know about order but read tragedies and homer as a chunk. Read Aristotle and Alexander as a chunk. Read Nietzsche and freud as a chunk. And leviathan after you've read all the others (or maybe before neitzschr and Freud but I wouldn't personally).
>>9899917
Also Plato before Aristotle.
>>9899917
Is that an abridged version of Hobbes' Leviathan?
Every edition I've seen has been way thicker
What's the point of this story?
plot twist there's only one boy
>>9899932
fuck that's so woke
It should be noted that the alcoholic boy grew up to be Wall Street hotshot, while the non-alcoholic boy became a drug dealer.
>be Susan Sontag
>read all the classics
>read every new book to come out every week
>watch all the art house films
>be able to comment on painters, architects, photographers, historians
>write the most turgid, uninspired, middling fiction
How is it that this wunderkind could form a multidisciplinary critical discourse but make it seem like she wrote her novels on graph paper? She's like a mediocre Yourcenar, like every bad thing you've ever heard about Henry James rolled into two "national bestseller" books but without his narrative mastery or his human acuity.

>The truth is that Mozart, Pascal, Boolean algebra, Shakespeare, parliamentary government, baroque churches, Newton, the emancipation of women, Kant, Marx, Balanchine ballets, et al., don't redeem what this particular civilization has wrought upon the world. The white race is the cancer of human history; it is the white race and it alone—its ideologies and inventions—which eradicates autonomous civilizations wherever it spreads, which has upset the ecological balance of the planet, which now threatens the very existence of life itself.
This is Susan Sontag, brainlet extraordinaire.
does anyone have this book? I'm looking for a copy of it, but can either only find old copies that aren't shipped to my country or very expensive ebooks, and this supposedly free copy at UMIch, but I'm not a student so I don't have access
Anyone know where I can find a free copy? It's a fairly old and influential book so I don't understand why I can't find anything (maybe because I'm not searching in French)

If you aren't picturing JoJo bros and at girl goddesses then you are missing out.
I like to imagine Athena as a stoic loli who's armor is too big.
I will NEVER find a novel as great as TCITR.
I'm depressed as hell because I will never relate to a character as much as Holden in my life, I really am.
>>9899604
Read No Longer Human, Notes from Underground, and A Confederacy of Dunces.
>>9899623
Did you just recommend me a japanese book
>>9899647
No Longer Human is written by a Japanese author, yeah. Some feelings are universal anon.
Anyone else have a bad book buying addiction? I purchase books way faster than I can read them.
pic not related
I go through phases of buying more than I can read, and then reading more than I buy. It evens out.
As far as non-related pic, it's cheap bait, so why bother posting it in the first place?
not now cuz i don't have money
but when i was an intern and was getting paid well and didn't have to help out in my house, i'd pretty much spend my money on books and food
so i guess that when you have more responsibilities (financially speaking), you end up not buying much

/lit/ for the chronically depressed?
What brought light into your corner of the universe?
>>9899096
books stave off depression more than anything else
actually reading them though and not posting here / being internet distracted
and being depressed makes it hard to avoid just sitting online all day
but if you can manage to somehow spend a few hours reading without any distraction and walking out of doors, depression seems much more bearable
All depressed fags go watch 'The Green Ray.'
self-help books that trick you into thinking you can achieve your goals
Why are reddit "scientists" so intent on claiming that the mind is purely physical? Has no one read Nagel or Jackson?
>>9898913
It's just the next step in the war on consciousness.
They are permavirgins and desire everyone to be meatpuppets so they can control them. Their highest dream is some kind of Skinner apparatus that instantly allows them to control any human they encounter through some physical phenomena.
The idea that the human being is purely physical is entirely evil and should be categorically denied a priori.
Gloria in excelsis deo et in terra pax.

Why are 4chan "dualists" so intent on claiming that the mind is purely non-physical? Has no one read Armstrong or Davidson or Searle?
thomas nagel is literally an idiot and not even jackson himself still thinks there was a successful argument in the paper "what mary didn't know"
Anyone read this book? Is the message of it that us visionaries are in the right vs these stupid masses? like all the editors and publishers and audience I deal with constantly
Hahahaahahaahhahaha, no. This novel is the rape fantasy of an ugly, self-hating woman.

Nietzsche
Jim Harrison. Start with The Man Who Gave Up His Name

watchmen by alan moore
if Nietzsche were alive today would he be as influential? what would he write about?
>>9898320
He would talk about how teens become atheists too rebel against their peers, then later when they realize everyone else did that they become Christian to say that they are beyond the childish games. Still this is just a more aware rebellion. true rebellion is a lie in this age as it always becomes rebellion against rebellion itself.
Then he would talk about consumerism and how happiness is being exploited for profit. We need to reestablish our value system with happiness at a lower rung. Lest we become slaves to our desire and that is the true source of evil; the desire for good.
Also traps are gay.

I did the math and research. According to Wikipedia, the average length of a penis varies from 5.1 to 5.9 inches. I went for a safe 5.5 inches for an average. The average radius from the core center of the penis to the skin on the outside is .75 inches. From this we can roughly find the volume with pi timed radius squared times height. This comes around as the average penis being around 9.72 cubic inches. Next I found the volume of the average human adult male. I had to first find the weight, which according to Alex Schlessingerman's "The Physics Factbook" is 70kg or 154 pounds. Weight is found by multiplying an object mass by the force of gravity, 9.81 meters per second. After taking gravity out of the equation, the average mass of an adult human male is 7.14 kg. I then found the volume by dividing this number by the average density of a human, according to Wikipedia, 985 kg per meter cubed. The volume of the adult male was then found to be .0072516316 cubic meters. Utilizing the volume of the average penis I found earlier, 9.72 in cubed, I get .0001592828 meters cubed. This means the penis is 2.19% of an adult male's volume.Assuming a lack of testosterone or female hormones makes the person a female, balls ignored for ease, fucking a trap is only 2.19% homosexual.
Does anyone else have ghosts who whisper them what prose to write?
Is there some scientific reason for this? Are we just funnels for something beyond this realm?

There's something to this. But (you) should fire the ghost in charge of imagery and figures.
