Gonna limit my shit to just one thread, so can someone recommend the most /lit/ non-fiction out there? There some sort of top 100 list for it?
>politics
>religion
>philosophy
Anything works; just want shit that's off the rails yknow

The only /fitlit/ book /lit/ has ever agreed on is Sun and Steel by Mishima.
That's literally the only reason all /fitlit/ threads die so easily. Because both authors and weightlifters tend to follow the pic related stereotype.
There are some "muh manly essence bring manliness back reeee" self-help books out there. But they are collectively shit. It's always either PUA or /pol/ content.
Google "fit reading list" and there is A collection of books. But those are usually just "muh stoicism" or "muh ubermensch" or "back then men were men". They're good books, just not really THAT related.
But I'll still lurk. On the off chance that someone knows better.

A lazy alcoholic gets swole from sorting letters in a glass box all day
I think American Psycho qualifies as /fitlit/, not only because of his obsession with working out and its constant reminders of the benefits, both sexual and mental, of having a great body, but also that it reflects the jaded almost-nihilistic outlook of /fit/, that sense that we are being dehumanised by the sexual selection process and our only valid response is to get big and compete.
That being said, what made >>9914957 and >>9915223 even think this was a /fitlit/ thread? Weightlifting and fitness isn't even mentioned in the OP, there's just a picture of Zyzz...
Does anyone else think that reading philosophy can lower the quality of your writing? I feel that after studying philosophy intensely throughout college, my understanding of the world is now so full of concepts, that it is more difficult to conceive of the world through certain aesthetics or phrases or feelings. I also feel that it is difficult to maintain a universality in my writing, because the problems that afflict my life are now very abstracted, and detached from the normal problems that people experience, or are normal problems experienced in a very different way, one that would not ring with other people and that seems to close myself off from connecting to any audience other than myself, due to my unconscious philosophical analysis of them. What do you guys think?
>>9914753
I think you made this post quite nicely as a good little monkey, now go run back and tell your friends you posted here again (:

>because the problems that afflict my life are now very abstracted, and detached from the normal problems that people experience
You need to read some Cavell. Also, as a philosophy major I couldn't disagree with you more. Which philosophers did you primarily read?
>>9914764
I feel like I just got rekt, but I don't understand how lmao
How do you analyses literature /lit/?
Every time I got into one or two of my literature professor's classes they always manage to show me something amazing and insightful that I hadn't seen before. Whenever I write a paper for these people I feel like a stuttering retard.
Is it something you just have to be born with or is there a way to learn?
>>9914734
Stop?
What if I said No? You gonna do something about it? Please, do. I love it when my little monkeys come out to play.
Hey /lit/eratis, I've been recently struggling with retention while reading in a foreign language. Whenever I read a passage I'll sometes zone out and not pay attention while reading and for whatever reason I can read, quite literally, a hundred pages and forget all of it if not the majority of it. How do you improve retention and attention while reading in a foreign language or otherwise?
Try reading more. Subvocalizing actually helps in this cases.
Was Anna a feminist hero? She was a strong women who fought against the patriarchal society that oppressed her by limiting her freedom and telling her how to live her life.
>>9914669
Wow, that's really something to think about. I have to consider it carefully before I give you an answer.
In the meantime, would you kindly dance for me, little monkey?
I'll send you the bill for my services.
You know, most people actually feel drawn to Christianity until they read the first page of the Bible. Why don't you fix that?

If people come with the intention to understand, they will not turn away. This is true for all worksP.S. Please stop baiting the entire board, Mr. Smug Anime Girl

Because we're filthy godforsaken protestants.
Made me want to read actual books in my teens. Goes beyond just simply good or evil characters. Made me interested in religion, history, war, politics and great men who have lived throughout history.

They're great at that age because they revolve around a put-upon young protagonist who's smarter than anyone else, and that's the way teenagers think of themselves. I was actually quite disillusioned going back to them as an adult (better than Harry bloody Potter, though, I'll give him that).

Great post, my friend. I really, really, liked it. Is your name Lori?
I'll send you the bill.

Okay /lit/, I'm probably retarded but you might be able to help me.
I'm a shit writer. Especially papers.
I order my thoughts, lay out my arguments, formulate everything in my head but when it comes to actually putting it on paper it turns to shit. Can't remember my exact words, can't put together my ideas properly, etc.
It's kinda like someone who can't draw. You can imagine nice looking art and how to make it, but the moment you grab a pen it's all stick figues and wobbly lines.
Any recommendations for excerises, writing techniques or whatever to improve here?
Thanks.
Write each individual step/idea on a different piece of paper then rearrange them until they're in the right order.
friendly reminder that if you're not fluent in the language a philosopher originally wrote in you have no business discussing said philosopher's ideas

>oldest major work I can comment on is Leviathan
Give me a list of the FIVE or at most SEVEN most important books, fiction and non fiction, that I can read and then stop caring about what the pseuds think.
I've finished Brothers Karamazov and the republic so it's extremely convenient to include those two.
I'm about a third through great expectations and I'm British so we can include that.
Now we need two to four more. I have war and peace and moby dick at home. Do you think that will save me from the pseud wrath? I also have the origin of species at home and I think that will actually be enjoyable so we can include that.
And don't fucking say the Bible or other religion shit. The republic and the Greeks came before those
>>9914434
Walden
>>9914472
No, not important enough
On the list:
>The republic
>The Brothers Karamazov
Probably on the list
>War and Peace
>Great Expectations
>Moby Dick
Maybe
>Origin of species
>And don't fucking say the Bible or other religion shit. The republic and the Greeks came before those
read the Greeks AND the Bible, you retard

Yep, it is a good one, but the majority isn't ready for this book yet. (see post above e.g.)
>>9914418
Good meme to you, Memesworth. Fine meme we're meming to-day, wouldn't you meme?
Are there any more books like "I have no mouth and I must scream"?
>>9914322
As in, is there anymore of it's kind? No not really. The closest thing I can think of Stephen Benet's By the Water of Babylon
