Why are the Greeks so important?
Founded western philosophy and literature
That's kinda important

Almost noone reads them, so when you do, you can feel special.
You'd better read something that broadens your set of skills that you use everyday. But maybe you just want to belong to The Club.
I myself recommend an anatomy book, you never know when there will be a need to stab someone or describe your ache to the doctor.
Long post, inb4 nice blog. Have to get it out. Do the same Anon, let it out.
>Grow up in third world Balkan shithole

>Read most of the stuff that is in my native language; Hartmann is 185 EUR on bookdepository, literally half of my wage. Baumgarten 92 EUR. Have to take PDFs to random copy shops and make books because I can't afford them.
>Be 27, realize how much I haven't read and how stupid I am.
>Realize Nietzsche wrote "Die Geburt der Tragödie" when he was my age.
>Feel even stupider, not sure if I will ever do something that is worthwhile.
>Read, take notes, read, starve a bit because I have to buy books; work for 8 hours a day as a translator.
>Try to save for a MA and hope a German university will take me, but barely saving anything.
>Try not to kill myself because inferiority complex

If it makes you feel any better, you've definitely read more than me.
>>10023523
I'm reminded of the story about Thomas Carlyle, who went without lunch every day for a week in order to each day buy a volume of Gibbon's Decline and Fall, and read it instead.
Don't actually kill yourself until you've definitely failed. Until then, chin up.

You have pride masked as self-deprecation. Get rid of it and you'll be fine.
*blocks your phallogocentrism*
What do?
>>10023479
blocking people is inherently phallogocentric, using written violence to impose your will on people. you can't block phallogocentrism if you are phallogocentric

The cats of Ulthar and The Outsider are two short stories that are pretty entry level.

You don't, but what does it matter?
>tfw philosophy was only a transient interest for your autistic mind and you fucked up by actually going for a major in it
>tfw no motivation left to go through ancient philosophy even

You may not be interested in Plato anymore, but Plato is interested in you:
Yes, I said, he lives from day to day indulging the appetite of the hour; and sometimes he is lapped in drink and strains of the flute; then he becomes a water-drinker, and tries to get thin; then he takes a turn at gymnastics; sometimes idling and neglecting everything, then once more living the life of a philosopher; often he-is busy with politics, and starts to his feet and says and does whatever comes into his head; and, if he is emulous of any one who is a warrior, off he is in that direction, or of men of business, once more in that. His life has neither law nor order; and this distracted existence he terms joy and bliss and freedom; and so he goes on (Republic, Book VIII).
Are we running out of subjects to write about?
>>10023194
Fuck no. My newest book is about the return of Jesus. He comes back and says nothing and just hangs around turning water into wine and the effect it has on the world.
>>10023194
No. The problem is that too many plebs have the opportunity to express their worthless opinions.

What's your opinion on this guy, /lit/? Is he a hack? Personally I enjoy him.

It doesn't really matter what we think. If you enjoy him that's all that really matters.

I am the Japan
I have seen Murakami in maid cafe serving beer in frilly dress in Akiba
Very much the disgusting appearances
His book read like cheeseburger
>>10023183
I read 19Q4 and couldn't stand it. Like a lot of modern Japanese authors he's more style than substance. If you like him that's great, at least you're enjoying one more thing than I am.
What books should I study to perfect my understanding of English grammar?
A Latin grammar book. Then all English books.
Seriously, learning another language will teach you a lot about English grammar, and what is what, and what should go where. Then just read the best English authors, and imitate their style.
