It can *only* be produced in such circumstances.

Russia has produced some of the greatest lit not despite but because it's always been a bleak dystopian hellscape

For undergrad I applied to one school and got in. For grad school, I applied to two schools. Wesleyan did not accept me "due to a high volume of exceptional applicants this year" and I ended up going to a school ranked lower but with more famous people in the department than Wesleyan.

What caused his works to be re-evaluated in such a positive light? You hear nothing from him for decades and suddenly he's esteemed as one of the best American postmodernists

Why else? We're starved for living Greats in literature.

But as a disclaimer I can't speak on his work personally. At least not yet.

Is there any secret to winning in self publishing? I brought out a novel last week on Amazon and it got zero sales.

did you just write some shit, put it up, and do zero marketing or anything to get the word out?
>>
>>9053317
yep. how much money should I put into marketing to launch a book? I could charge it to a credit card, perhaps.
>>
>>9053332
you shouldn't put any money into it. Do creative shit, get the word out.

Is it true that the only people who say Dostoevsky is better than Tolstoy are the ones who haven't read Tolstoy?

Honestly, they can't even compete. Tolstoy is infinitely superior a writer to Dost. Discuss.

Probably because you don't understand what's going on in the middle and need the fireworks of plot to impress you.
>>
>>9053105
Pafko at the wall is the greatest thing he's ever written.

There was plenty of "plot" throughout Mao II but the prologue and epilogue--which had more or less zero plot--was still the best

White noise, was actually pretty solid all the way through.

What do you think about Bob Dylan as a writer?

Is Bloom a better artist than Stephen?

After all, Bloom's "art" is basically the way he's lived his life, and he's pretty successful at that. He even reclaims Molly at the end. Meanwhile Stephen's this thin shitter who hasn't actually written anything.
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Bloom's is a highly creative person. It's endearing af. although he is, like Stephen, a man of ideas, since he writes ads
>>
>>9053002
But molly considers cucking bloom again with Stephen during her monologue.
>>
>>9053002
It's implied that Stephen will create something explosive in later life. But for now he's a pretentious little prick with nothing to write about.

Basically, Stephen and Bloom are both Joyce, at ages 25 and 38.

Do any of you constantly find yourselves writing essays the night before they are due (this applies to people who are in university obviously)?

If you managed to stop doing this, how far into your undergrad did it happen? Have you ever actually read any of the essays you've written in a taurine-fueled delirium months after they've been submitted
24 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Yeah, I do it all the time. I submitted one this Monday that was written in like 6 hours but I still managed to get 74/75 points. I'm just a college freshman, though.
>>
>>9052881
Stopped in the second semester of my undergrad. I forced myself to stay on campus after class (I live 90 minutes away by public transit) until I'd finished whatever I'd assigned myself for that evening. I was better for it and so was my work.
Mainly I gave up on the fiction that I could get any work done at home; that's where I shitpost and play vidya
