I think its one of his word games: if you might notice, both words end in ics, have h, e, and t in them... he wins again.
Maybe it was a little much of an absolute statement, but maybe there is something to the relation between them. Maybe, ultimately, ultimately conclusively following/pursuing ones ethical system, results in the aesthetic environment? And therefore, whatever Ethical program is running (he is saying absolutely equals, I would say, effects, helps produce) 'causes' the aesthetic reality:
Islam believes xyz ethics, believes in spirit and God = nice, simple, clean, 'divinely patterned gowns', burqa.
Orthodox Christians, believe in ethics xyz, = wear their sunday best
Ethics are nihilistic, = wear a "if I were with someone, I would be with stupid" t shirt
So, I just finished the Odyssey for the first time. I enjoyed the Iliad, a ton, but the Odyssey for me was just something else. In my opinion it was much more "humane". I almost cried like a bitch in a few parts (for some reason I found the blind poet (which I assume Homer inspired on himself) a very happly-sad character, the guy who took care of the pig and his story was also incredible, and the dog, the fucking dog) but I also found the pacing to be better. Odysseus is also an amazing character.
So, which one do you prefer and why /lit/?

Now, if you don’t want to be one of those boring old writers that make a living off this stuff, and instead you are in this for the “art” and to win prestigious literary awards, let me give you some helpful hints on things you need to put into your book to get awards. The more the better.
1.Make it dreary and impossible to understand. The more befuddling the better.
2.Don’t resolve anything. Resolutions are so bourgeois.
3. Somebody has to get raped. If it is sci-fi, rape a robot.
4. Suicide is good too.
5. Humor is not allowed, unless it is ironic hipster humor that mocks the establishment.
6. If there is an antagonist, make him a thinly veiled version of Dick Cheney.
7. Right-wing dystopia OR evil all-controlling religion. (bonus points for both!)
8. Gay cowboys eating pudding.
9. Make every single character unlikable. If you accidentally create a likable character, see #3 or #4.
10. Moral compasses are so passé. Have your protagonist sexually assault a horse or something.
11. Drug abuse is fun for the whole family. Somebody better be huffing paint.
12. Global warming. Award juries love dying polar bears.
