Is there an antonym word for "Communication"?
They seem difficult to define.
Surely it would not be simply "Silence" - that isnt an opposite to communicating, thats just a lack of communicating.

And what about "Art"? Is there an antonym for that?
I define art as personalised communication (this is its base purpose - to transmit ideas, emotions or narratives in a unique but translatable manner).

But is it possible to have an opposite of that?

>miscommunication

That means incorrect use of communication - not an opposite of the definition.

Guys, intellectually I'm all spooked out. I can't stand philosophy because of all the unfalsifiable garbage. Many fields like economics etc are just applied common sense and stamp collecting. I see novels as nothing but entertainment despite pretentious people claiming life / philosophical insights and tonnes of people will consider you a disgusting plebeian if you don't initially read shitloads of boring as fuck canon novels.

I think I am painfully adapting to the idea of the Internet age / information overload by abandoning any pretension that I can be an all rounder or even dilettante in everything. There are ten trillion books called "Introduction to [broad and important field]", even if you only have one of each field.

History is similar to novels. Shitloads of reading along with a shitload pretension thrown on top telling you that you truly cannot no nuthin unless you have an in depth understanding of the Greeks / Romans / Christianity / USA / WW1 / WW2 / financial systems / or shitloads of other topics I can't stand it. And then there's current events. I don't care about climate change, outer space, inequality, China, the EU, applied psychology, the education system, diversity, Russia, South America, refugees, nutrition, mental health, and more. Admitting just one of these would make me an iredeemable idiot, no doubt.

Has anyone else had similar thoughts? The spooks are powerful and must be removed but their removal leaves your mind in a promordial state that is more susceptible to spooks than before.

I go to the city centre and see people shopping and the streets are busy, which is comforting compared to when they're empty, but walking through then brings no epiphanies.

I am so past watching movies or tv shows, even ones that pander to "edgy" young males. I just about read books but only because society tells me I should, though I don't derive much enjoyment

And obviously I have an existential crisis but /lit/ is fucking pathetic in demanding that anyone who has one should immediately "grow up" and become a monotheist and wagecuck. I fucking hate wagecucking. Seeing attractive young people is humiliating. I tell myself every day that I'll soon work intensely on one thing but I can't bear to do this. If you're really good at one thing then there are people lining up to call you a tard for not watching opera or being able to run a marathon or whatever shit. So I do nothing.

Every "thinker" is at their core an utter fucking fraud. Nietzche is a Tony Robbins tier Rorschach test. Science and mathematics provide non trivial insights but only in ultra specialised ways that probably require autism to appreciate. I listen to In Our Time podcasts and Bret Easton Ellis podcasts and I think at heart everyone cares about nothing more than social drama.

Apart from money, health, and time, there are very few non trivial concept.

Like, dude... man.... I just had this crazy idea. What if our brains are just like a computer, like the hardware, and our minds... Wait for it... is the software! We're like just meat robots walking around on a rock in outer space! I'm just a bunch of chemicals and shit. Love is just a chemical reaction! Think about that! How is consciousness even a problem? My awesome brain (a computer) is turned on right now, and when I die, it turns off! What's the mystery? Racism and sexism and stuff like that is obviously(!) a kind of computer virus. Anxiety and depression is just chemical imbalance! When I'm reading a book (reading The God Delusion right now, it's sooo good) it's just my brain processing information like a computer! Sorry guys, I just feel very excited, feels like I have unlocked the secret of the Universe or something, haha!

He despises what it is hes really lonely for: this hideous internal self

Why do some works of art possess more value than others? What are the criteria for a good work of art? In this case, I mean art in its broadest sense, including literature or music.
Basically, I just want to un-pleb myself when it comes to arts.

Art becomes more valuable when it has appeal to the most people, unlike your mother who loses value with every john.
>>
You will gain knowledge of this as you spend more time with it. When you are just starting out, you have no idea why this or that book is better than any other. When you've read (and understood) a hundred books, you'll have a better idea for what is unique and interesting compared to what is average.

Of course, this all assumes you're actually being a good reader and you take time to analyze what made each book good or bad. And it also assumes you give things you're uncomfortable with the benefit of the doubt.
>>
>>9060532
Alright, OP.
So, Art in itself is hard to define. A lot of it is subjective and nobody has really been able to pin it down. Everyone has to figure out their own definition, but what you have to do is try to experience art firstly on an emotional level.

Hear me out. That might sound like a cop-out, but it's like this. A lot of art, especially if it doesn't connect with you right away, it doesn't mean it's bad (it doesn't mean it's good either but hear me out).

Personally, for me, art has to have a message it wants to convey to the viewer. Doesn't matter what that message is, or how coherent, but for me, that's the basic requirement. Now, the thing with art is, is that people will say stuff like "but WHY is it art?" Really, you have to find the reason for yourself. What I do, is even when I see art that I don't personally like, I look at it, and I don't think about it. I FEEL it. This might sound like esoteric bullshit, but, well, what do you want to do? I feel it. It doesn't have to feel good. Maybe you feel angry. Maybe you get offended that it's so bad. Maybe that's the point. Who knows?

Try to cast off what you think art should be. Sometimes you have to work at it, to appreciate it. I used to hate modern art like every other asshole. Sometimes you have to look past technical ability and look at the intention. Sometimes the opposite. That's art.

If you listen to Harold Bloom talk you'll realize he's unironically dumb. Throws around a ton of empty words. If he has a photgraphic memory and uses that to read 20 books a day it doesn't even matter when his analysis is mediocre.

not really, you should just go read Snow Crash again
>>
>>9060438
omg, Snow Crash is even worse. Gibson's writing in the Sprawl trilogy is what still holds up, not so much the plot, characters, or dare i say it, science and tech. Snow Crash, on the other hand, reads like a high school writing project.

>>9060426
read it again for fun, but don't expect a masterpiece.

The prose is still exhilarating and the style still cool as heck. If you're looking for complex psychological portraits, a comprehensible plot, and a dearth of weed-smoking space-Rastas, you'll probably be disappointed, but I thought it was excellent.

Never ask a well-meaning literary type

for any sort of situational advice--

he'll tell you write, handwrite, typewrite

"My boy, you have so much bottled up inside,

here's pen, here's paper, just uncork it in time

before it swallows you in tide, Your pride-wall gives a stoic groan

the levee spills over until one day

it pops, and the city chokes on your own

outpouring."

But I query: Maybe levees are made to groan

that your outpours might remain your own?

No wall stands erect to break--

A flowing heart does not peace make.
