I haven't read Shakespeare since high school. What do from here.
Read something actually good and not the eternal meme's shitty plays.
Drop him and read Marlowe

Read Racine
What are some great books of history? In particular one-volume works like the one on russian revolution by Figes? Picture related is just too much for a pleb like me.

Diplomacy by Henry Kissinger
History of the English Speaking Peoples by Winston Churchill
The Story of History by Will and Ariel Durant.
History of the Peloponnesian Wars by Thucydides
That's plenty to get you started.
>>9068006
that's outdated and no historian takes it seriously these days

Why is contemporary philosophy so inaccessible and obfuscatory?
If you don't write that way you aren't taken seriously.
Because it's building off stuff from the previous century which built off stuff from the previous century and so on for like 16 times, so it's just gonna get worse as time goes on

The Poetry Tree has a long been a growing and early has the lowest fruits been bought
What are some good Hard Science Fiction books? Would especially love to read one with good worldbuilding. Slight liberties are fine too, as long as the book is good.
A good example would be a book aesthetically similar to Alien, where the mundane parts of space travel are made apparent, and the cast are essentially just normal people who work as space truckers.
I'm probably contradicting myself, but I'm dying to read a good story again.
That all sounds fine, but first I think we need to talk about the bonus situation.
The problem is space truckers aren't actually realistic. The amount of energy we're talking to propel a spaceship at reasonable interstellar speed quickly becomes retarded.
There's no way the people who regulate spaceships are going to let some space-muslim who keeps his head down to buy a spaceship and blow up a planet with it.
>>9067656
This is obviously a setting where space travel has gone beyond the realms of where we are today, sort of like the Aviation world in the late 1980s-1990s. It's established, refined, and mundane, but relatively young in the grand scheme.
Hell, no one was even piloting the Nostromo, it's all done automatically.
What are some Swashbuckling recommendations /lit/?

What do you want to hear exactly? The scriptural answer is "no."

Wtf is non-compatibalist free will you fucking asshole
I just thought of an idea that, in my personal opinion sounded like a good general idea for a book. Here's the idea: A blind swordsman traveling the world in search of his family. What do you think? should I write it?
Blind swordsman sounds a little cliche-ish, but really, you should go for any idea that gets to write
>>9067497
Yeah I felt that it does seem somewhat of a cliche, but I wanted others opinions before I actually started to write it.
>>9067483
cool idea OP, going to steal this right now so you better start writing

It never even existed in the first place.
I just realized, it is precisely (though there are more reasons obviously) a good book because even "smart" people like you, "dont "get"" why its a good book

Have you ever wondered if being a "flaming liberal" ought to disqualify people from teaching students who are still basically children?
