>the book was really boring 100 pages in but it was definitely worth finishing
When has this ever happened? It has never happened in my experience.

Infinite Jest takes like 300 pages to get going.
Do you listen to anything while you read /lit/?
I like to have Bob Ross on in the background with the sound really low.

It's really getting tedious at this point. The beginning was really slow, but build up to something great with the peak being his second dream shortly after the murder and the interaction afterwards, that was just fantastic. But he's lying sickly in his bed for 48 pages now and I can't take any more pages of what I described in the green. I'm at page 220 now, please tell me that it picks up real soon, at least introduce Marmeladow or something, because at this point it's just plain tedious to read.
If you didn't like the beginning just quit, it doesn't get more engrossing

Just keep reading it, it does keep in the same style, the fever dream period is a bit tedious but the themes get explored more later on.
Ignore this anon, he probably misunderstood you.
Put it down and read The Brothers Karamazov.
Can you recommend me some books -novel or philosophy essay- on the theme of servitude and submission?
I've got some books yet as Persian Letters, Montesquieu and Juliette, de Sade

Misunderstood in what sense?
In what of his works would his political affiliation be relevant or interesting?
Why does /lit/ hate this dude?
He died of alcoholism and peddled a cheap Watts Brand Buddhism that razzles, dazzles and never points you in the right direction ("but the fact that we're looking for a right direction is the whole problem! GULP.").
He was, easily, more Tim Leary than he was Thomas Merton.

>("but the fact that we're looking for a right direction is the whole problem! GULP.").
But that's the hoax
>He died of alcoholism
yolo
>>9083663
He was an entertainer, and called himself such. Why do people think he thought of himself as any more than that?
I mean, if you want to learn about intricate Buddhism, go somewhere else, that doesn't mean everyone who has ever touched on the subject is immediately a con artist.
For people who dont speak english as their first language:
Which language do you read when the book isnt originally written in english or your own language?
A translation to english, or a translation to your own language?
>>9083596
It depends really - whatever is most accesible. If I see a book I want to read in a bookstore that's in my own language, I'll read it in my own language, but considering that most literature is translated in English I end up reading it more often in English.
english translations are typically better and easier to find for works that are less than very well-known
>>9083596
i read it in my own language or in english if it isnt translated to my language
what is the best book you have ever read that you doubt many other people even know about. here are the ones that were posted so far.

I bought Fanged Noumenea recently and I've been attempting to work my way through that but, honestly, it's fucking impenetrable. If you are going to try him I would recommend doing it on an e-reader so you can quickly look up terms he uses because you'll be doing it quite often.
Which books of the Bible are worth reading?
Cover to cover. Go big or go home, nerd.
You'll hate the last three books of the tanakh, but if you can read that front to back, the rest is a nice, enjoyable breeze.
The whole thing

Not OP, but I've just started the Bible and it's unironically triggering me. Isn't this supposed to be life affirming?
Has anyone here been published in any way? Novels? Short stories? Articles?
>>9082749
I got into a small press magazine once. It was the only time I wrote anything specifically tailored to an editor's tastes.
I think that's the only way to get published, t.b.h. Find out what editors/publishers want, and provide it for them, on a plate.
(If you think that's worthwhile. I don't anymore.)

>I think that's the only way to get published, t.b.h. Find out what editors/publishers want, and provide it for them, on a plate.
Just recently I was looking into how the submission process works for magazines and literary journals, and this also seemed to me like the best way to get published.
