Where do I start with Irigaray?
Don't
>>9101136
just let him read her and have his own opinion ok?
Life is like starting to read a book but never finishing it.
>>9101086
Being a pseud is like being a pleb but without any chance of redemption.
>>9101086
Life is more like a book you suddenly stop reading
>>9101176
>"Now everybody-"
SERIOUSLY PYNCHON
Do you guys often give up on reading a book part way through and plan to come back to it at a later date? could be for any reason, not feeling like you have enough experience to understand it for example
Pic Related: I just put IJ back on the shelf because i felt i couldn't relate to it at the moment
>>9100960
this is bullshit.
I did it for many times until I realized that most of the information from the book I'll get later when discussing it with myself.
So just read.
If you feel that it was not a good reading, re-read it then.
>>9101017
Not understanding was just an example, i stopped reading IJ because i wasn't enjoying it and couldn't relate. I don't think i've ever stopped reading a book purely because i didn't understand it
>>9100960
Don't sweat about it.
Give it time or don't. Go read what you fancy and if you like it, come back. IJ is really good, but it really isn't for everyone.
How do I decide what to read?
>>9100849
Delete everything and see what you remember.
>>9100849
You listen to me.
Read Strindberg. Read The Red Room by Strindberg.
>>9100849
You don't.
*spits on your rebozo*
Is it just me or is Wittgenstein _insanely_ good looking? no homo btw
Just you, he looks like a malnourished Sean Penn
>RAW
what did he mean with that?
it is not a homosexual thing to admit that a man is handsome.
>your favourite author
>last book of his you read
>mishima
>temple of the golden pavilion
>>9100776
This is apex comfy. Where is it, Japan?
>>9100793
Yes probably
>ywn be born in that exact farm and live your entire life out in maximum comfiness in there and every day coming back to pic related to piles of books
Why did life have to get so complicated?
What are some philosophers that in favour of the greatest way to live, the NEETDOM way? I also want philosophers who are against it of course but we know really well that they are probably either overprivileged like dfw and have never worked a day in their life or their arguments are extremely flawed and just appeal to emotion
For you.
>>9100724
Where is this from? But yeah thats not surprising to anyone. Are there no philosophers dedicated to this subject because I have a lot of ideas but considering how much has been said I'm sure my ideas are not really original.
>>9100751
>Where is this from?
Antifragile.
>>9100751
>Are there no philosophers dedicated to this subject because I have a lot of ideas but considering how much has been said I'm sure my ideas are not really original.
I do not know of anyone except Taleb a bit.
Leftypol had some anti-work reading list, but I wouldn't know how to find that.
Have any books touched you profoundly?
>>9100636
No but your mum has
>>9100636
>>9100643
You obviously have nothing to say so don't say anything.
Uncle Tom's Cabin. Because of the death of little Evangeline St Clare
How do you reconcile your intuitions and personal tastes with the crushing weight of pressure due to everyone telling you to enjoy long and boring as fuck books or stupid topics (stuff like China, Psychology, the education system etc.) that people claim are important?
I feel constantly guilty. I fully trust my intuitions (while not ignoring when they're proven wrong). But the pressure is relentless. "Read these 50 boring as fuck Dickens and Russian books! Now say you enjoyed them! Now read this stupid non-fiction New York Times Bestselling book by that stupid journalist! Now pretend all of that is profound!"
I feel like I'm ready to say fuck it and ignore all stupid criticism.
Just read what you like, bro.
>>9100612
>Psychology
>Boring
Psychology is super duper fun.
>Russian Literature
>Boring
Not really.
Life is about impressing people. These people don't want you to read all these long/boring books, they want you to know that they have already read them before you and therefore feel superior to you.
They also want to show you that they enjoy "sophisticated" books, again in order to impress book.
Here's my story about reading:
>be 18
>last time I read a book was in middle school, don't really like it
>drop out of school and start to experience life outside the scholar system
>feel interested in some YA novel (CHERUB), decide to buy the first one
>fucking enjoy it, buy the next ones
>buy some other YA novels
>reading feels good
>buy my first "serious" novel, Le Comte de Monte Cristo
>never enjoyed reading a story that much, it becomes my favourite novel and still is to that day
>buy some stuff about Greek Mythology because I find recent interest in it
>find interest in astronomy, buy some books about basic astronomy/astrophysics
>here I am 5 years later, reading all kind of stuff I enjoy
Fuck people.
These people are really retarded
Aside from the fact that its basically an entire subreddit dedicated to shitting on DFW, they say a bunch of other dumb shit too.
Read a complaint about Catcher in the Rye on there that sounded exactly like what every freshman girl in high school said about the book, i.e
>its annoying!
>Holden is annoying!
>he whines too much!
Why is reddit so fucking gay lads?
>>9100502
Yeah because /lit/ is so above that where we just call each other cucks and /pol/tards and fedoras
>>9100502
>implying there's isn't "why holden is so dum" thread on /lit/ every other day
>wah wah there's some stupid people being collectively stupid on the internet
Fug off and stop shitting up this board.
Who's your favourite teen fic author, /lit/?
>>9100163

>>9100163
I really liked David Fosty Wally's infinite jest.
Jewrsula Le Pinguin
Look I know Im a literally pleb but I want some genuine self help books. Not the 4 hour workweek not any tony robbins no eckhart tolle no bullshit. Just straight shooters explaining development methods
>>9099715
these threads should be banned tbqh, just because it's a book doesn't mean it's literature
>>9099735
cool
Is there a decent argument against Marx's idea of a "species-being"? and alienation?
Personally I find the whole idea of a man's "true nature" or "essence" to be nonsense, but I'm looking for an author who can articulate this well. Maybe a conservative author but not necessarily.
>>9099594
>man's true nature
Foucault. Post structuralists in general actually.
>>9099594
>Is there a decent argument against Marx's idea of a "species-being"?
Not making a mess by mixing the young Feuerbach-reading Marx of 1844 with the rest of his opus. Especially when he attacks muh human nature in These VI the year after.
Luis Althusser's book For Marx is the best way to be introduced to the increasingly less humanistic progression of thought of Marx.
>>9099617
This looks perfect. An anti-humanism reading of Marx. Thanks
Which books would you recommend for a guy who simply want to be an Average Joe, one of you guys, just a normal person, but is prevented from being so due to his intellect and genius? I've just read "The Drama of the Gifted Child: The Search for the True Self" by Alice Miller and I was surprised to discover how well she was able to articulate my disposition. It's just that there's so few individuals like myself that it's painfully difficult to simply "be" like other people (you) because my mind is moving at 110mph while the brains of other people are stumbling along barely even comprehending fifty percent of what I say. It's torturous to travel through life in top gear at all times, and let me tell you, the periods where the engine stalls are so disturbing that I have seriously considered ending my life several times, only be discouraged from doing so by college professors, girlfriends, lovers, friends, and family members, all of whom in their own way acknowledge my limitless potential and unrivaled intelligence, not to mention my sense of humor and general tendency to be the best company a person could wish for.
my dairy desu
>>9099571
>my mind is moving at 110mph while the brains of other people are stumbling along
>[i am] the best company a person could wish for.
you sound fucking insufferable
On the miniscule chance that this isn't bait:
You are as dumb as everyone else, being angry at other dumb people is a fact of life dumb dumb
What would be the modern day equivalent of a greek gymnasium?
>tfw no place to go to be /fit/, /sci/, /lit/ and shag cute boys.
4chan.
4chan is the equivalent of a greek gymnasium.
I work out, I do philosophy, and I own a chemistry set. Oil me up and let's get this party started.
>>9099399
It doesn't fit the criteria at all, except for the gayness
