Who are some writers that are basically right-wing versions of Chomsky?
>>9122038
There isn't really anything like that. The great turn right isn't predicated on some intellectual movement, but the combination of utterly insane social progressives in power and academia, and the behavior of a substantial population of Muslims. There is no intellectual leader of this movement, and even Bannon, who I believe is a true intellectual, has dumbed his message down for the plebs to consume.
That said, I would begin paying attention to The New Criterion and its supporting authors, as well as The American Conservative, despite the fact that both are certainly not big fans of the alt-rightif it existsor the current administration.
>>9122038
Every single "classic liberal" is right-wing by today's standards, so you can pick from literally any philosopher or polymath before ~1850.
Anyone writing on personal liberties, the individuum, tradition, family, economics.
>>9122142
Which goes hand-in-hand with this. The new right is essentially just the new Center with the farther fringes of the "alt-right" being those who decided to enter the left's game of identity politics by fighting fire with fire because political mechanisms are dead and they have no voice.

is transcendental idealism compatible with darwinian evolution
?
is this a serious question
transcendental idealism isn't compatible with reality, in fact it's the reason for a lot of anguish and depression

This is the bi-daily thread for those of us who are reading The Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Shea and R. A. Wilson. The reading schedule is below. Every reader is allowed two days to finish each chapter, plus after every chapter that is longer than fifty pages there will be a two day break. There will be a new thread every other day, made by OP.
You can join us and catch up at any time. There will be a brief summary included in the OP of every just-completed chapter's events and key themes and ideas.
OP hopes you enjoy the book, get something out of it, and hopefully don't get too lost within its contents.

What did you think of "The First Trip"?
Ok, does /lit/ secretly enjoy John Green? It just seems strange that everyone who roasts him seems to have read all his books and know quite a lot about his life and personality.

I hate him with every fiber of my being, but I've never actually read one of his books. I think I'm going to pick up Looking for Alaska and give it an honest chance.

Medicine is pretty great.
Is it pretentious to tell people this is your favorite novel?
No, it's a pretty pleb thing to do, actually.
No, but it's embarrassing, cowardly, and an immediate signal you've not read more than twenty books.

What should I claim to be my favorite novel to impress people?

Do you consider screenplays as literature? Why or why not?
>>9120045
NO. FUCK OFF. LITERATURE REFERS TO NOVELS. FUCKING NOVELS. THAT'S IT.
I read screenplays for a living and you would not believe the amounts of garbage we receive, even from generally trustworthy agents and managers. On the other hand, even fantastic scripts have a strange cadence to them that only works on screen. So no, I don't. Although I would like to.
