Has anyone else read Not Alone? I just finished it a couple of days ago and it was very entertaining. Not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but a really fun read.
Basically boils down to "What if the cooky conspiracy theorists were right?" with a lot of focus on the concept of whistleblowing and the media.
Highly recommend it.
Are any Forgotten Realms books worth reading or is it all shit like Salvatore?
I've been playing some d&d vidya and it would be nice to get into the lore.

They were both "the aliens", Rorschach was the body and the scrambles just mobile cells. Think beyond the idea of "ships" and "pilots".And Valarie was reanimated by the microbes they picked up on Icarus.

Hyperion and Fallof together are incredible. Give it a week before starting the sequel though. You'll be impressed how well he ends the second book.
I'm trying to find a punctuation mark that indicates nesting relationships, kind of like Houseplant > Orchid > Moth Orchid. But I'm not sure I want to use the greater than sign. What other options are there that would be almost immediately recognizable as meaning "This is a member of the group that came before it, and that one belongs to the group that came before it." etc.?

If I learn to read Spanish can I read Portuguese too? If I learn to read Portuguese can I read Spanish too?
Nigga start with latin, then branch into all the romances
>>9124963
I lived in spain for 3 years as a child, long enough to be able to understand Spanish, even if I wasn't fluent in it. We took a trip to Portugal, and I never had a problem understanding what was said. So while it won't make you a scholar of the tongue, Spanish will allow you to at least divine the meaning of Portuguese.

Regarding arts in general, including (fiction) books:
Why should I let someone else influence my view of the world? Even more importantly, why should I let them do it in a subtle way, as if expecting surprises or good ideas from movies/books/... was fun? Why not simply read technical (even philosophy could be considered "technical" [unless I'm misusing that word]) book on different topics, from relevant authors, and let my imagination fly, instead of reading a book about some imaginary people that live some fantastic life, just to let the author push for his ideas in my life?
Science fiction is the thing that kinda makes a difference here, because they at least propose some new stuff, namely, completely different worlds, worlds that follow different social logics.
This is why I don't watch movies or read non-technical books. I sometimes watch documentaries, knowing that the authors *are* trying to influence my views. Same for newspapers.
Explain to me, why do you enjoy letting random people influence you through books without a declaration of intentions?

Because thats how humans work, dumbo. 'You' is just a compilation of ideas that influenced your brain. Might as well get influenced by the best
What do you think of me poem?
Fuck you for making me turn my head
It was okay
it be good matey I'll publish ye
Sweet. That'll be good. I'd like that.
My country started a program giving everyone turning 18 that year 500€ to spend in culture/books.
I am not 18. I traded cash for these book coupons with 18 year olds i know.
So far I have almost exclusively read on my Kindle because of cheaper/free books.
I now need to decide what books to get.
I thought the best options were books that lose value when read on a e-reader. Things like House of Leaves or S. or anything with unusual typography or style, and the memecore Infinite Jest Gravity's rainbow etc, just to own them even if i've already read them.
Thoughts?

Scientific textbooks for your future academic career.

Destruction of Academia when?
>>9127525
holy shit we must redpillpeople to the evil of academia its simply destroying white civilization by making us believe false things that are quite simply ideological means to make sure that whinteness is disappearing and being genocided and destroying moral decency thats why you see women with blacks, pepe the frogman is our ally and he will help us through meme magic and lord kek his cousin who is also redpilled
>>9127531
No. Academia should be destroyed because it makes no sense for people, in an age of the internet, to be taught things they hate rather than allowing them to foster a love and interest for themselves.
>>9127539
try a redpill and see the truth

What do you think /lit/?
I'm honestly surprised that the School of Oriental and African Studies doesn't already teach a lot about Indian and Chinese philosophy or political thought and also that there is controversy in them doing so.
>The School of Oriental and African Studies was founded in 1916 “to secure the running of the British Empire”
>Soas taught them the local languages as well as providing “an authoritative introduction to the customs, religions, laws of the people whom they were to govern”.
Sounds like courses on non-european thought would be an essential part of the curriculum.
Why is this being spun as outrageous anti-white or SJW demands?

>I'm honestly surprised that the School of Oriental and African Studies doesn't already teach a lot about Indian and Chinese philosophy or political thought
It doesn't have much of a philosophy department at all. But the one philosophy course it teaches is called something like 'world philosophy', so I'm pretty sure it does teach those things.
>Why is this being spun as outrageous anti-white or SJW demands?
Because right-wing identity politics, obviously.

Holy... I want more
I'm looking for books that are so convoluted that they arguably don't have any plot at all, but still are considered to have artistic, and literary merit.
Something confusing and all over the place, but with an overarching message. Fiction or not.
I wish I could think of maybe a film equivalent but nothing comes to mind
Gravity's Rainbow
Gravity's Rainbow is the book for you, my friend.
why tho
