Blame the shitty medieval arab translations.
Aristotle himself was one of the most versatile speakers in the ancient world.
Hello /lit/
I wanted to know where I could read the Moomin comic strips online. For some reason I've been seeing a lot of them on 4chan and it piqued my interest.
>>9130435
I don't know, haven't read them, but have you read the books?
>>9130499
I actually haven't.
Although I can easily acquire the books in an electronic format, it would seem that the newspaper comic strips are outside my grasp as per electronic editions.
I can't see that well with paper text, and was hoping I could remedy that.
There must be an origin to all these Moomin crops and reaction images. Surely.
If I can't find it, I'll just pick up a hardcover and run a scan myself.
I don't want to be that oddball using a magnifying lens to read something.
Reminder that moominfags are just ponyfags trying to infiltrate other boards.
Im 18, doing poorly at Uni, and dreadfully scared of growing up and losing my youth and the carelessness that came with it
Books for this feel?
at least you can read a book
my brain has been melted to where i can't focus on a book
i only read contemporary theater now. god's ear by jenny schwartz has some good stuff on how awareness of cultural tropes robs yr youth.

Catch 'er in the Rye. It's about lots of fun games you can play with your little sister. All for the sake of protecting her innocence, too!
>>9130486
>Catch 'er in the Rye
holy fuck he actually did rape her haha the actual madman!
What do you guys think of the Portuguese language? I'm an American who is already fluent in Spanish and I'm looking to pick up a third language. Portugal and Brazil are both pretty solid in my book (I'm talking culture, not economics) but discussion of their literature is essentially non-existent on this board.
Also underrated languages thread I guess to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Well if you know Spanish it should be easy to learn Portuguese. Luís de Camões, Fernando Pessoa, Eça de Queiroz, Saramago,..
These are probably the most famous Portuguese authors. Since your book is about culture definitely read "A Mensagem" by Pessoa and "Os Lusíadas" by Camões.
I thought it was a meme, but I read it, and not joking, it was mind-blowing.
Witty was just a stupid loser. The only thing that caused him to be famous is that there are enough people even more stupid to read and praise him.
>>9130139
You're right. Continental brainlets will never understand
>>9130160
You're right that the people who praise Wittgenstein are brainlets but the irony is that he was actually right about everything.
Some Anon said that:
>If you don't read philosophy then you are being cucked by whichever random philosophies are visibly embedded in your culture.
Inb4 we are different individuals, I do believe and most of you might agree that are influenced by our culture, advertising and so on.
Therefore the question is:
Whats the mainstream philosophy of our civilization at this moment, what implicit values are pushed on us by the media?
*we
>>9130007
Cuckology is dominant within much of society and is promoted by the lamestream media as such.
>>9130007
psychology + philosophy is the way to go
Why is it worth reading?

it's not it's a fucking meme you retard. it's okay. but will confuse plebs. so you tell people it's good to trick them into reading it and wasting their time.

Summarize 3 general (but maybe profound, or at least important points) that everyone (including and especially brainlets) should know or would learn from this book:If you cannot do this, you must return your Shill member (and rewards) card, and get your Anti-Brainlet badge revoked
What do you notice about this copy of Finnegans Wake?

Looking very closely, there's quite a high volume of proper dictionary words. Oh my God, is this a translation?
There are no original ideas or concepts left.
Kill yourself then.

In terms of literary merit and virtuosity, has any songwriter ever came close to Dylan?
Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith, and Lou Reed come to mind, but I don't think they surpass Dylan.
I know this isn't /mu/, but let's have a lyrics/songwriting general thread
>>9128226
all leftist cucks
>>9128234
I know you're baiting, but.. who do you think are the greatest songwriters who aren't "leftist cucks"?
>>9128226
Georges Brassens, Charles Aznavour, Fabrizio de André, Lucio Dalla come to mid.
What do you'll niggas think about Emile Zola?
>>9127390
If Germinal and La Debacle are good I will read the rest of the rougon marcquart cycle. This is on my short term reading plan
What is essential in art remains its perfection of existence, its production of perfection and plenitude; art is essentially affirmation, blessing, deification of existence -- What does a pessimistic art signify? Is it not a contradictio? -- Yes. -- Schopenhauer is wrong when he says that certain works of art serve pessimism. Tragedy does not teach "resignation" -- To represent terrible and questionable things is in itself an instinct for power and magnificence in an artist: he does not fear them -- There is no such thing as pessimistic art -- Art affirms. Job affirms. -- But Zola? But the Goncourts? Flaubert? -- The things they display are ugly: but that they display them comes from their pleasure in the ugly -- It's no good! If you think otherwise, you're deceiving yourselves.

Gorgon-Zola : the joy of stinking
I'm not crazy for Zola but his novels are not as boring as they could be. I liked the first Rougon-Macquart, "La fortune des Rougon". Not enough to keep reading other ones, though.
What I remember is that the 13yo female protagonist had some light moustache hairs.
Ever had an Iceberg thread lit?

I'm at level six, just gotta turn into the beluga.
Reminder that if you live in a society, use it's goods and services, participate in economy and rely on your countrys police/military/law system to keep you safe, you cannot claim to be an individualist
