Supposing work is the highest virtue, and life is only about money, why aren't more people rich?

People are quite rich.

I have some questions about truth here, but I wont phrase them interrogatively in hopes of creating discussion.

Multiple construals are happening at any time and through convergence we find what we believe is truth.

They think truth to be what most accurately describes reality, but might I irk you to consider truth as merely incidental to being human (Like the purpose of color on fruit)?

Another thing:

>Jordan Peterson
>Ben Shapiro
>Sam Harris
>Stefan Molyneux
>Any famous personality who garnered a large following through pandering or garrulousness

These are all just sophists, making captious objections upon another and others. Replete with casuistry, false confidence, double downing, and biases in protection of ego so as to not render past efforts futile or meaningless.

These are the speakers to whom our curious neighbors listen and perhaps direct their less curious friend.

I ask you to consider:

Is this the cream from our strain?
Are these thinkers results of a selection of the lay masses, or the learned?
Why can't we offer more?

After some consideration I believe we are heading for some sort of terrarium style reality of the apt and inept.

Im looking for that picture that gets posted here in which Borges is smiling with a pie on his head.
I will pray for your salvation tonight if you post it.

Also rare pictures of your favorite authors. Here is Thomas Pynchon's hand.

I know close to nothing about literature, except for some local thriller/crime novels that i've read during middle school. Recommend me some stuff!
Preferred genres are horror and adventure, but i'll read anything if it looks interesting.

Keanu is always related.

Start with the Egyptians and learn about ejaculating on lettuce. Then proceed to the Greeks. Then make your way all the way to Infinite Jest. Finish those and you can shitpost here freely
>>
>>9963918
Recommend some specific books? I'm actually Egyptian so i feel really uneducated
>>
>>9963934

Oh shit really? There's a list in the sticky of books on Egyptian culture you might be interested in. Aristotle and Plato are two Greeks you need to familiarize yourself with, as well as the plays by Aeschylus.

If you want to get into the literature of certain locations, like Japan and South America, there are good reading lists posted in the sticky as well.

When did you grow out of contemporary fiction? For me it was in 11th grade after reading Murakami's' Kafka on the Shore'. I switched to classics, poetry and non-fiction and never looked back.

I was never into it. My school experiences with it were utterly terrible.

I've been thinking about doing this story idea I had. Here's the basic idea so far:

A middle-aged barbarian frost giant is cursed and turned into a dwarf.

He tries to find a spell to reverse this, learning several other spells (particularly ice spells) in the process, and becomes somewhat of a wizard. Since his home is too big for him to live in now, he stays in an inn in a town for more human-sized people.

The story would be a comedic fantasy (though preferably without anachronistic jokes because those are in pretty much every comedic fantasy) with fantasy elements loosely based off of Norse Mythology.

I'm not sure if I should make it a book, a webcomic, a cartoon, or something else. I think it would best as something with visuals, but I can't draw so I'd have to find a collaborator to do the art

What do you think would work best?

Your in for some good spy novels OP, have fun reading him. I recommend The Spy Who Came from the Cold, the Tailor from Panama, the Constant Gardener and Our Kind of Traitor.

Our Kind of Traitor is available as a movie and its pretty decent. The Night Manager is a book of his that is a good mini series on amazon prime.

Overall good writer.

The book was excellent, far better than the movie, it doesn't have a dumb jew as the main actor.

But back to serious discussion, I think the movie does a fine job translating Endo to a mass audience. I still think The Samurai is his masterpiece, but Silence is a noble effort.

My mind heads towards Family Happiness, Cossacks, and Kreuzer- all of which I prefer for sheer variety alone (especially the second)- but I suppose each is probably classed as a novella, not a short story per se. Sergius IS great but like Master and Man thematically one dimensional. Of course if I choose Hadji I'll be accused of following Bloom, so I won't, although....
I'll give (you) this: Sergius is clearly better than The Devil. But really.. are not ALL Tolstoy's shorts great?
