I, as it seems, have a mind that is too strong: that is to say, it is wired in such a way that makes my brain much faster as well as much more capable in complex tasks. This, alas, is causing problems as the common folks have difficult times grasping what concepts I am communicating.

I am unable to form worthwhile relationships with the most basic people, it is simply that their brains pale in comparison to mine. This has caused an existential crisis, of which I was already familiar, because they come and go.

It makes one very alone indeed.

Are there any books that make this personal suffering easier to cope with?

What do you mean exactly? I usually go on /his/ and /sci/ I only posted here for a book recommendation.

What was the outcome when you considered the communication of elaborated concepts as simple terms as a complex task to be worked on?

I've been wanting to start reading the Chinese classics, mostly Journey to the West and Three Kingdoms.

I've heard though that for them to make much sense, I need some historical and cultural background on them. How much is needed to "get" them? Are there any resources I could look to?

I have no patience for these "I want to get into X" threads "Where should I start?"

Oh, I don't know. How about you start by picking up a book and reading it? If you actually had any interest in this shit, you'd just jump into it and figure out where you need to go from there. There's no magical jumping-off point that's going to propel you into mastering chinese literature and fucking 1,000 chinky maidens while you sit on a throne of dimsum. So just start reading or start fucking off. You know as well as we do that you don't actually intend to read any chinese literature, otherwise you would have already instead of wasting your time making this thread about it.

Where do people get the idea that this guy was some freedom-loving individualist?

Because he was.

Just determine your own values and stick by them. That's all Nietzsche asks.
>>

WHY?! WHY MUST YOU TORMENT ME SO WITH THESE JEZEBELS? All I want to do is come here for an asexual experience that will exercise my brain but I am constantly titillated by these vixens with their prodigious hips and provocative figures. Can I never satiate this thirst, will I ever know the touch of a woman and enter between her loins? Will my seed ever drip from her moistened hole?

Life is a constant hell. No wonder I resent women do.

what would i have to write if i don't give a rats ass about fiction but want to milk the idiotic but solvent population that is young to middle aged female readers?

for example

>must be left winged
>must be about racism, homosexuality or the like, abortions, the slut life
>must have a knight in shining armor that loves the protagonist even though she's a walking red flag
>must use simple words
>must have sex scenes for shliking
>protagonist optionally struggles with weight (which doesn't keep white knight from thinking she's the most beautiful thing he ever saw...)

what else?

went to buzzfeed and found new rules

>must be graphic about gross female bodily functions
>must have atleast TWO knights in shining armor fighting over fat protagonist
>should include bdsm but not in a patriarchal way
>detailed food and clothes descriptions
>gossip and drama
>alcohol aka getting shit faced
>accidentially leaked nudes
>for some reason, protagonist gets famous
>prot is a lazy piece of shit but can somehow afford a light flooded luxury penthouse
>possibly by having various sugar daddies
>ofc prot is also extremely successful and intelligent (maybe finds cure for cancer or something...)
>>
even more ideas

>prot is raw vegan wih gluten intolerance
>prot needs safe space and trigger warnings
>depressed/bp/borderline
>has history of sexual abuse/was "raped"
>difficult relationship with dad
>finds out about royal ancestors and inherits old castle in france
>>
>prot loves to fantasize about having kids but is too selfabsorbed to actually wanting to be a mom
>has cats and tiny dog
>spends a lot of time on social media
>is instagram famous
>is a diy pinterest queen
>sews all her clothes herself and distresses shabby chic shelfes
>LOVES "books"
>somehow always has time and money to travel the world and meet new people/visit old friends since she is soooo popular

Damn. His podcast helped me to actually appreciate and enjoy Ulysses. Unlike most people here on /lit/, he was never snobbish about the book and genuinely had fun discussing it and teaching others to fall in love with the book as well.

1.How many of you guys haven't taken a college level literature course and
2. If yes do you think it helped you in your individual studies and
3. If no do you feel that you have difficulty interpreting a text or feel as though you are missing patterns within a book that would be easily clarified to you had you taken an English Literature course?

I myself have never taken one as I tend to lurk in only the Math and Philosophy departments but I will probably eventually bite the bullet. I honestly do feel as though a literature course would help me although I try to do the best I can by reading essays on JSTOR and reading criticism from "critics". I'm not sure I could write an essay on a poem although I can bull shit quite well.

In the US 99% of colleges make you take English 101 and 102 (might be named different in different places) and Speech 101. I put less effort in these classes than I did highschool english and did fine. Either you're not a retard and can write A papers in a night or you're a retard.
>>
>>9163385
yea I'm not worried about my grade; I'm talking about actually learning
>>
>>9163375

1. Haven't taken any form of college literature course, was too busy retaking shitty english classes. Ended up graduating as a welder

3. There hasn't been a difficult text that I couldn't clarify by re-reading the page 2-3 times over, or just pondering over the subject.

hey, /lit/

so, I was thinking about starting a skype group chat. i guess there's no real purpose for this group, in the sense that this is not strictly like a book club or exclusively for literary discussion.

I have a vague feeling of what it used to feel to talk to strangers over the internet. this is an attempt to recreate that.

it's easier to make a list; in this group we'll:

o pick some (short) book at random every once in a while and talk about it,
o discuss other pretentious stuff like art, kierkegaard and being ironically depressed but not really
o share music and playlists
o talk about anything else, really, as long as it is beautiful in some way or another

that's basically it, or more correctly, that should give you an idea of how time will be spent in this place. the whole point of this thing is that you get to be as pretentious as you want about the things you are choosing to consume, as long as you do it honestly.

I only wish for one requirement: please, no politics. no real politics, anyway: if you feel that some political thing that's happening has some aesthetically interesting point of view that only you, the great aesthete, can see, then by all means share it.

this thing will be a complete success if even once it makes someone want to create anything.

anyway, I think I went too long. add me on skype: [email protected] and I'll add you to the group.

here is some of the books I like: the recognitions, franny & zooey, a man asleep, moby dick; my favorite movie is paris, texas; i've watched all 9 seasons of seinfeld at least more than 40 times; I once spent a month listening to nothing but elliott smith's 'roman candle' and animal noises CDs from frémeaux nature.
