- All my books I've read are dog-eared. This is because if I'm reading and only have time to reach the end of the paragraph, dog-earing to the last line I just read keeps me reminded of my exact progress. I know this upsets people here so here's confession no. 1.

- I still enjoy YA. I know it's nowhere to the standard of my favourite classics like Don Quixote or Moby Dick but it's enjoyable fluff when I want to read but not something that will require more attention than muh dark materials trilogy.

- I want to create a Youtube review channel focusing on film and literature without the social awkwardness and memes of typical "booktubers" but I know nobody will watch it and I'll never make that YouTube money.

- Sometimes I'll buy a book based solely on its cover if I know it's considered a classic. If I've not heard of the author/title then it's risky but a brief look at the blurb and it's cover can sell it to me. I tend to find some pretty interesting work with this but I know it's also being pretty careless with my money too.

- I'm the nigga who buys a stack of books from Waterstones because I want them pristine and new, then it takes 10 - 15 minutes to scan/pay for every book I'm carrying.

- Always felt a temptation to steal short books from shops but never have done, even though my naivity doubts I would get into much trouble over stealing a small collection of Basho haikus.

why is rationalism demonized?

I haven't seen any actual arguments against it, just a lot of ad hominem "le edge atheist" screencaps etc.

>>
Why don't you read some literature rather than relying on 4chan for an education.
>>
>>9183413
By pointing out my hypocrisy, you have answered my question.
>>
>>9183401
What do you mean exactly? For example, full rationalism isn't possible if you read the literature on neuroscience and psychology
Or do you mean it only in the sense of a scientific mindset? That doesn't free us from cognitive biases

Also it seems rationalism can come at a cost. It requires rigid minds, from what've read but don't count me on it, which means lesser creativity.

There is evidence, some by Baren-Cohen, that autistic people are more rational and logical, very good at figuring out mechanistic stuff, but bad in other areas.

>"It has sometimes been said that the Jews' secretive & cunning nature is a result of their long persecution. That is certainly untrue; on the other hand it is certain that, despite this persecution, they continue to exist only because they have the inclination towards this secretiveness. As we say that such & such an animal has escaped extinction only because it has the possibility or capability of concealing itself. Of course I do not mean that one should commend this ability for such a reason, not by any means." MS 154 25v: 1931

"Spooks" does not appear in Stirner's German, of course. We actually owe this delightful term to Stirner's translator, Stephen Byington.

OP here, i am not your sweetie. anon that is a pretty sweet life tho. having drank many beers and banged quite a few human females, i can tell you i don't miss being chained to a normie. sex was nice though. /lit/ is better.

Do /lit/ know of any good horror story ? I'm ready to try anything but I'm not really into gory story. Too boring.
I've read a bunch of Stephen King story. He's alright but nothing amazing.
Lovecraft has some really good one, like "The colour out of space"
I also read load of creepypasta and while a lot of them are shit, some are really good so if you know of any good ones I'll take them.

Check out M.R. James' short ghost stories.

You have to hunt to find which Lovecraft stories really do it for you. If you liked The Coloreds out of Space, try The Haunter in the Dark.

What age?
>>
what age are we talking about?

assuming aged 2-6

for the LOVE OF GOD don't make it about some ((hidden)) morals like "always share", "that's what happens if you don't eat your veggies", "clean up your room".
make it for pure entertainment.

have high quality illustrations (from an actual artist, not those shitty and cheap computer generated pics).

don't play into hard gender roles or parents these days won't buy it anymore. also exclude religion for that reason.

make the protagonists relatable for KIDS. make them have imperfect behaviour. kids find that hillarious and it's soothing for the parents to know that it's not only their kid behaving that way.

make appropriate pic/text ratios.
don't make it one of those "everybody lves each other and is always nice to each other and we never argue and always obey" abominations

> Read poems until you find something you like
> Look up that poet/poem online (somewhere like https://www.poetryfoundation.org/)
> Find similar poets/poems
> Repeat ad naseum

The most important thing to remember is you're allowed to hate as much poetry as you want. It's a very broad category of literature so you're not going to like everything but there is almost certainly some patrician level shit that you will enjoy. You just need to find it.

Pic related is an amazing resource of poems

Why should someone read philosophy?

Where would one really begin with philosophy? We all hear "Start with the Greeks" so which Greeks specifically and which works?

How would you decide where to go next? Do you need to agree with what the philosophers say to appreciate/understand their work?

Big dummy asking this, I just picked up Aristotle's Poetics (I hear it's a useful tool for writers) and Plato's Republic (I hear it's a major giggle, lads).

Start with the Greeks. Plato and Aristotle are pretty memeful, yea.

Procede with the Romans.
>Do you need to agree with what the philosophers say to appreciate/understand their work?
this question is so stupid that even you can self-criticize it, can't you.
