I got a story published in The New Yorker.
The fact that they printed it immediately made me lose all respect for them and for most of the people who make money disseminating other people's writing.
It is noble to write. It is not noble to gatekeep. I haven't submitted anything since. It was more than five years ago.

I'm about to embark on a ~20 road trip so i'm looking for some stuff to cycle between music and podcasts.
I'm thinking John Darnieles (of mountain goats fame) wolf in white van just because i like his voice.

Anyone familiar with Something Happened here? I finally decided to read it and it has to be one of the most bleak and miserable novels I've ever encountered. It's so single-minded in its barrage of anxiety, paranoia, and hatefulness that it becomes borderline exhausting and you end up having to laugh at some of this absolutely horrific shit because there's nothing else you can do.

What's the difference between Hegel's and Marx's dialectic.
Just started reading Hegel and there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference. From hat I can tell his own dialectic is largely compatible with materialism.
