Why aren't you a successful poet / Formula 1 driver, /lit/?
>nigger poetry
No thanks.

Indifferent towards motorsports, but Diana was a white trash jetsetter whose reputation is in desperate need of some iconoclasm. What I'm saying is that this shinning star could do with a kick in the shins.
Reading is allegedly entertaining but I procrastinate reading novels because there are so many boring as fuck novels the pseuds tell me I have to read.
I can barely bring myself to read the last third of great expectations. I thought I was going to read a tale of two cities after this for the pseud cred but I can't. It's so awful. Dickens is so awful. The book is even worse than Nicholas Nickleby.
I'm not some plotnazi or someone who demands action. Not at all. But Jesus Christ, Dickens manages to write straight in to the centre of the "don't give a fuck" part of the imagination, like some sort of metaphysical (or psycho-physical) space explorer. You should read a Dickens book to experience this feeling. It's like some sort of epiphany where I stop thinking dualism is viable.
JUST STOP FUCKING READING YOU FUCKING RETARD

Why don't you just read things that you enjoy instead?

>>9972163
Self-publish.
worth reading or is it /pol/ tier garbage?
>>9972096
Read it and come to your own conclusion you sheep
>>9972106
Basically this. Pirate copies are plentiful, so you don't have to spend any money (the shill would probably jizz himself at the opportunity to spread it, for that matter). I read the first three chapters or so and lost interest; it's basically a book-form presentation of those infographics where le jew owns all the media companies or whatever whilst rubbing his hands.
>>9972136
Well you would say that, wouldn't you, random-anon-with-no-vested-interests.
What are some pieces of literature you guys found to be either too hated or overlooked? Pic related because I can't think of any.
Dunno if this is what you mean, but I don't get The Catcher in the Rye hate.
>>9972086
yeah it counts
>>9972086
it's really good I think. i want to read it again because i read it in high school and it'd probably be much different now.
How come the Quran is so trash compared to the Bible?
>>9972059
It is the only book worth reading. Salvation lies within.
Have you ever heard the term "parody"?
Different styles, I like em both
Is there any decent literature that deals with depression as a central theme?
Maybe counts
>>9971947
Nope, there's never been any literature written about that. Kinda strange once you think about it.
>>9971947
Ecclisiastes from the Old Testament helped me out. Not big into biblical stuff either... "There is nothing new under the sun"
Self-explanatory. Never read the book before, but I know what it is about and its author. Explain your opinions please.
Is there a pdf of this somewhere?
I'm curious to read and discover why it's a meme but I really don't want to have a book as pleb as THE WESTERN CANON shitting up my shelf.
>>9971934
Why didn't you just form your own thread instead?
>>9971955
I just saw the picture and replied I still haven't read the OP to be honest I'm just waiting for a link.

Is Maps of Meaning wrong? I've googled the shit out of this but can't find anyone saying that he's wrong (the "truth" thing with Sam Harris doesn't count). All I find are reviews praising it. This is the worst I can find, which basically says "pretty cool; it's a decent intro to Hegel": https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1QOAW6MGVT8RM/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewpnt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=0415922224#R1QOAW6MGVT8RM

It's an interpretation of the human condition. It's not a math problem that can be 'wrong or right'. It's a question of utility and how penetrative it's insights are.

What I'm thinking is that he is very broad when generalizing, so my thinking is that there's some critique somewhere that might poke some holes in one of these.
All I want is to know that someone way more educated and smarter than me has read this and can say something about the validity of his conclusions. I mean, it's 500 pages, so there has to be SOME mistakes in there...
Monogatari, poetry, modern novels, poetry, whatever.
No, I'm not a weeaboo. I'm just passionate about all kinds of literature and I'd like to know more about one I am not familiar with.
>Manga does not count
>I've already read Battle Royale
Read the wiki. It has a few charts of Japanese literature.
>>9971770
The good murakami
This chart has a bunch, but it's not really useful in telling where to start. I'm mostly familiar with post-Meiji literature because they're usually depressing as hell and that's always good. If you're Christian and/or read the Bible, read Silence by Shusaku Endo. If you often feel sociopathic alienated, start with No Longer Human. If you feel r9k alienated read Kafka on the Shore. If you just like samurai read Musashi

Basically, do whatever makes you happy in life, because you'll die and be forgotten?

>optimistic nihilism
Isn't this a contradiction? Nihilism discards all praxis and value
Are you more fond of asking questions or of answering them? Where does literary art fit in to the question above?
Answering, because it is a total ego trip for me to know shit that other people do not. Pretty much any time I'm asking a question, it's to gather more knowledge, so when somebody asks a question, I can whip out my throbbing brain cock, and answer that question. Maybe, 80, possible 90 percent of the reason I'm on /lit/ is so I can answer questions people ask me so people know me as that guy that knows a lot of stuff.
>>9971682
Asking. Answering feels like work. Answering also takes more words
>>9971682
Why do you ask?
What are some good books about native americans? I'll take fiction or non-fiction doesn't matter as long as its a good read.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8303538-empire-of-the-summer-moon
I've read 1491 and 1493, which I can recommend. I've also read James Maffie's book on Aztec philosophy.
On my reading list are:
- How It Is: The Native American Philosophy of V. F. Cordova
- The Dance of Person and Place: One Interpretation of American Indian Philosophy
- Aztec Thought and Culture: A Study of the Ancient Nahuatl Mind
>>9971494
Empire of the Summer Moon is excellent. I really enjoyed A Sorrow in Our Hearts, a biography about the great Shawnee leader Tecumseh. Much of it is speculative but it's still very good.
If you are interested in inuit-aleut cultures I highly recommend pic related.
Are there prerequisites to this? I ask because I've "started with the greeks", but like to read things on the side too that aren't necassarily western cannon, or that would benefit too much from having more literary background.
>>9971476
Oh, and also where do I pick up those fine sticky notes? I think they're transparent
>>9971476
no
its an easy read, very cartoonish at times
As long as you can read at a high school level you can read IJ.
>>9971479
Any office supply store should have them near the sticky notes, but you shouldn't need them. That picture is someone marking every mention of a color with the color.
