Now this is just a simple thread

Essay on how much I think Bresson is fucking terrible. It's like watching a promising amateur filmmaker.

A short novel about a lonely girl. I really dont know what im going for with this so im using it to experiment on new things.
It's cyberpunk, but not in America, Japan or China.

Books/Authors similar to cormac McCarthy, Ernest Hemingway, mark twain or Herman Melville that you lot would recommend? Preferably in a late 19th, early 20th century America but I'm not fussed
Pic unrelated

Woah neat I notice when I read I forget how depressed I am.
I notice when I am constipated I no longer have depression
I notice when I'm noticed that I no longer notice notices.
>>9283387
Doing stuff takes your depression away. My aunt heats her home with a wood fireplace, and I spent a weekend cutting up wood for the winter. I was the happiest I've been in a long time that weekend.
Chopping wood for most of the day, eating her home cooked food and being exhausted at night felt great.
Loki said:
“Hush thee, Freya,a whore thou art,
and aye wast bent on ill;
in thy brother’s bed the blessed gods caught thee,
when, Freya, thou didst fart.”
What did they mean by this?

Good find
>*BBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP*
For some context, Freyja is meant to be the most beautiful and lovely of all the Aesir, and she has power over love and relationships. She's basically the Norse version of Aphrodite. It's like if one day on Olympus all the Greek gods were milling about and suddenly Aphrodite let one rip.
Dude be a hero, lmao.

He started out great unfortunately he will also succumb to pop culture cancer.
I want to become religious but I just can't believe in God. I've studied both catholicism and orthodoxy and I find both religions to be absolutely fantastic, specially when you leave the confines of the official liturgy and rituals and enter the realm of folk catholicism, for example. I've found such a rich, poignant tradition and yet I feel I'll never be a real part of it because I can't believe in God. How did you come to believe in God, /lit/? Are there any authors who helped you to finally believe again? I've read a lot of Dostoyevsky but didn't find his approach satisfactory. What fiction writers deal with folk religion?
>>9283522
Unironically C.S. Lewis
Also it sounds like you have the wrong reasons for approaching religion.
>>9283522
you already do believe in god
I like the part at the end of Anna Karenina when Levin suddenly realizes that god is the answer, and nothing comes of it.
What is some literature that will make me want to kill myself?

right, because the realm of eternal torment, of wailing and gnashing of teeth, is basically a pub where you sit around a table and shoot the breeze with your favorite authors.
>>9283239
They are pagans, what did you expect?
Homer lives in a castle in limbo, so it's not that bad.
Would you rather be a fish?

Does anyone have the massive infographic for how to get started on Mishima? There is one in google images but it is shite.
I have it.
>>9283076
Sorry, I forgot the pic
I have it, but it's shit, start with Confessions, go for Sailor then it's whatever you want.
What's some good literature that elicits a 'body horror' feeling? Cronenberg is one of my favorite directors, and I even loved his novel (which, naturally, captures the feeling I'm seeking). I'm not necessarily looking for works that fall into the conventions of the horror genre, but I'm not totally opposed to such suggestions either; I have Barker's Books of Blood on my backlog.
>>9282877
Forgot to mention: I'm not just interested in decay and mutilation and etc. for its own sake. One of my favorite things about Cronenberg is how the visceral and cerebral are made interdependent, and I'd love to read some material in a similar vein.
>>9282877
Cronenberg cites William Burroughs as a big influence.
Check out Cities of the Red Night, Naked Lunch, The Place of Dead Roads and Western Land
>>9282877
Dude, Cronenberg even made a Naked Lunch adaptation. You should be able to figure it out.
