Try imaging yourself in a festering pool of sardines. You really hate sardines and have no idea how you got into this pool of sardines. In fact, the only memory you have is being stuck in this pool of sardines and the only thought you have is how much you hate being in this pool of sardines. Slowly, you begin to wonder: what about this existence do dislike, exactly? Is it the sheer amount of sardines or the troublesome picture I have in my head of me screaming for help only to have these sardines pour into my mouth and fill me up until I'm basically more sardine than man?
That's what I do, anon.

is submitting content to free-to-enter writing competitions online the ultimate meme?
Like, after I've written something what am I supposed to do with it? Can I just take it to a literature professor at my school and ask them to look at it for me?
>>9292824
You could, if you dare.
>>9292824
You write something for practice. If you are confident you can contact an author you admire and ask for a consultation or some gay shit like that.
>Can I just take it f5a literature professor at my school and ask them to look %&at it for me?
No. Don't do that, you parasite.
Find an online community of writers who you respect, and use them. It probably doesn't have to be /lit/. Don't forget to pay it forward.
Let's talk publishing.

Would leading an academic life be boring?
I can imagine spending my life writing obscure essays on obscure passages of old books that only a handful of people read
No, everyone knows academic life is long, drawn out, coke and blowjob party that never stops.

What's a good place to start with Jung, something of an overview of his thinking?
The extent of my formal training in psychology was psych 101 freshman year. I've read Grof and James, the former wasn't too challenging in terms of how much background was needed to understand, James was a bit dense.
Jordan Peterson's lectures on Jung blew my mind.
>>9292480
seriously tho...where's a good place to start with jung?
>>9292492
I'm serious? He's a Jung scholar.
Will dump what I have, feel free to join in.
is this good? is there something better? how are you otherwise supposed to stay organized if you've written hundreds of thousands of words over several years that are all part of one book?
>Implying you should use any word processor that you didn't build yourself in python with tkinter
Just write, god dammit man
I would prefer not to.
When I download books I always look for Oxford and Cambridge University Press, Routledge and Wiley-Blackwell first.
Which publishers do you regard as a mark of quality?
Princeton university press is a mark of poor quality
>>9292284
>British publishers
*screams*
Our low print runs can give you shitty quality products. I'm a little jealous of America's university presses.
Most of my books are Oxford World's Classics and it makes my shelves look obsessional. The only similar phenomenon is perhaps those Reclam books the Germans have.
Oxford, Cambridege, Norton, most Penguins, Blackwell, Arden, Routledge, for English.
UNAM, Universidad Veracruzana, Cátedra, Alianza, for Spanish.

what does insomnia do to your brain?
a lot of writers were insomniacs. for example kafka or proust. joyce and nietzsche have implied sleeping problems. not to mention the evil side of lack of sleep. stalin, hitler and mao all were infamous for their fucked up sleep patterns and inability to fall asleep, sometimes for more than 24h.
i'm sure there are a lot more but those are the ones i came up with after a quick research.
i'm wondering if the insomnia was a result of their unusual brain activities or if it was the other way around... what do you think, /lit/? and do you know any other insomniac writers?
>>9292330
interesting, thanks anon!
i'm trying to find other people with unusual mental ctivities that were insomniacs. mengele obviously was one too...
>>9292322
>kafka
He was torned apart by existential dread. He had good reason not to sleep at night.
>Nietzsche
He was torned apart by costant headaches and various ailments.
>Joyce
Same as above.
>Stalin, Hitler and Mao
Wether you believe in their cause or not, they had to put their name on lots of actually fucked up political acts. Wether you think you're right or not, having on your coscience thousands if not millions of dead people will do that to your sleep.
Only Proust was a good example, everyone else there had either physiological or ethical reasons for not sleeping at night.
