How to get over mild writers block? I have a set of events that I want to present in a semi-standalone chapter, but I cant seem to get inspiration to actually build a narrative around those events/scenes

>Write it without caring how bad it is
>polish it while keeping in mind the platonicnidea of what your art should be like

That's it. Writer's block is when even that first idea is not present.

That's not writer's block.

Suck it up and get it done, son.

What is the best online forum for literature?

I want to make friends with people online as we discuss our interests in literature.

I don't want a website like goodreads where people review books arbitrarily and comment on each other's e-penis.

I want an old school forum full of discussion, where the person's worth is dependent on their reputation as well as quality of contributions.

Any suggestions?

Will "The Story of the Vivian Girls, in what is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion" ever be fully published? I would love to skim through this work. Henry Darger was fascinating, and it's a shame that only excerpts have ever been printed. Where are the actual manuscripts even located?

Sooo slave morality = spooks?

>>
A "spook" is that which one does not like. For example, if one were to take a sip of a cool refreshing glass of orange juice on a hot summer day, only to find it bitter and distasteful, one would say;

>This juice is a spook!

Hopefully that clarifies things for you, OP. :)

Does reading the works of the dead stifle the progression of literature?

Is literature going somewhere? Bloom has his Kabbalah thing that I have read nothing about, but I'm guessing he's of the opinion that specific writers fulfill a necessary spiritual thing.

Is writing, or any artistic endeavour really, about the artist's personal enlightenment, making fame utterly irrelevant?

Are humans supposed to invent AI and then die?

I just finished reading the brothers Karamazov for the first time. It was really an incredible book and maybe the most enjoyable one I've ever read.

The grand inquisitor chapter changed my mind about the existence of God. The earlier chapters were equally hilarious and educational about the nature of faith in a secular society. The later chapters had me gripped because the main characters were so fully fleshed out yet developing and having epiphanies on every page.

What did you love about the book? How many times have you read it? Seriously, every chapter could be expanded in to an entire book about either psychology or philosophy. It was that profound.

One of my personal favorites. I read it numerous times, so much so I read P&V translation, Garnett's and one by Andrew R. McAndrew, the last translator is more modern and easy to read. Out of the whole book the chapter of Elder Zosima's Life really hit me. I didn't expect that a fictional character could be so real, and from time to time I read that chapter in it's entirety. Here's a passage from that chapter I like;

>For all men in our age are separated into units, each seeks seclusion in his own hole, each withdraws from the others, hides himself, and hides what he has, and ends by pushing himself away from people and pushing people away from himself.

Is there any contemporary philosophical writing that deals with a tendency in our culture to "humanize evil?" I'm referring to actions like giving "evil" people "rich inner lives" and similar qualities in media.

When I mean evil, I mean evil in the cultural context i.e. being a greedy asshole, killing people, etc. not an exploration of what "evil' really is.

Maybe Bataille's "Literature and evil". See if you can get some info about it, honestly I haven't read it but it could be relevant.

There's a book about serial killers which attempts to de-romanticize them and instead point to their cultural and philosophical significance: Serial Killing: A Philosophical Anthology. Also other random books on serial killers, especiall those written between the 80s and 90s. I'm reading a book on Dahmer now and while the author tries to paint him as a Dionysian figure trapped in an Apollonian world, he still concludes that Dahmer was an unremarkable person and the end-game of the "smart, but lazy" archetype, an under-achiever.

Serial Killing is cool, have been thinking about picking it up for a while if just for the fact that I like Shipley's writing a lot. How is it?

How do we got there?
I want to leave it in the past.

Man consumes himself,
a life of excess and greed,
Thoughts controlled by screens and celebrities
Joy appears to be dead
and Man is classified as a soulless creature

Alas, all hope seems lost
yet a minute, beaming incandescence appears
A light that energizes life itself,
and motivates even the most lost of men
We appear to be undeserving of this light
It’s nature, virgin-like, too pure for our rotten souls

Shall we evolve,
or shall we parish
If not now then when
When shall our fortune be etched

Our will to live or die
a vacillation only fluxed by this light so often within our reach,
still, we neglect it
It often appears
going without notice
With hope, man will no longer be consumed by himself,
But consumed by happiness

You could start by rating my last sonnet
Rodéome de golfas y villanos
Y, con una compaña de tal guisa,
Con una voluptuosa Dionisa
Se establecerán sólo pactos vanos,

Que serán olvidados muy deprisa
En favor de aqueste vivir insano,
Quebrados por el sentenciar tirano
Del vino y de las lánguidas sonrisas.

Si algún incauto fiare sus haberes
En tal recua de putas, de basura,
Verá desesperado sus perderes.

Mas yo, que pertenezco a esta conjura
De sátiros y putas, miserere,
Asistiré borracho a mi tortura.

Modern society dictates that you should be always busy, when was the last time you got time to do nothing, to be idle and not worry about schedule? perhaps being bored isn't such a bad thing overall.

>when was the last time you got time to do nothing, to be idle and not worry about schedule?
I get this every day because I rejected modern society and decided working 20 hours a week and living a very modest lifestyle with time to pursue interests and better myself was worth more to me than working 40 hours a week and having far more material goods. True, I'm not able to support a family and most women don't want to date me because they think I lack ambition, but I think I'm happier this way.
