Where did the 21th century go wrong literature-wise? How come almost all modern day """""""""""""philosophers""""""""""" are cringy, ignorant idiots? Do we just don't care about the existential struggle anymore?
>>9318040
Teething problems. The big boys will come and revolutionise blog-philosophy
If you think you can do better, do better
If you think you can't, support those who can
Egalitarianism > worse education > dumber people
Technology has something to do with it as well
I adore that photograph OP.
It's ruthless, it's absurd, it's topical!
How do I make my poetry sound less whiny and more meaningful?
>>9317762
Grow up.
spend 10x more of your time reading good poetry by masters (both dead and contemporary) that you do trying to write
>>9317762
Suffer more hardships
Literature is dead and Rupi Kaur/slam poetry killed it

that's giving her too much credit
Why did slam poetry turn into a bunch of suburban white girls or muslim girls in hijabs whining about how oppressed they are in America?
>>9317788
Slam poetry has always been about whining for people who are not taken seriously.
>mfw reading the book of Isaiah
Could it be the most important book in the Old Testament?
why do you think so?
>>9317753
Because it prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ, m8.
>>9317748
is that the one where Jesus kills the whale that ate Moses before he got to the Promised Land?
Anyone read Lincoln in the Bardo yet? If I don't like the writing style of his short stories, is there any chance I'll like this?

What are the best/your favorite books that explore the theme of madness? It doesn't nevessarily have to be gory or about a killer
But a main character descending into insanity would be interesting
A book where the line between reality and fantasy is blurred? Something like this
Can be genre fiction (I already know Lovecraft), or something more "lit"
Just a book that would draw me in and really make me think
"Shining" for example is a book that follows the story of a guy who loses it and kills his family which imo is a bit tired and I already know this type of stories, BUT if you know of something MAGNIFICENT /lit/, recomend please
Unica Zürn
Anna Kavan
Kafka
Crime and Punishment & Notes from the Underground
In a way... The story of an eye
Ernesto Sabato - The Tunnel
Herrmann Unger -The Maimed
Tell me the bestestest books on the history of philosophy.
Not philosophy itself but secondary literature talking about it from a history point of view.
The History of Western Philosophy by Russel is fun but can't stand on its own.
The Story of Philosophy by Bryan Magee is alright for an introduction.
For an overview A New History of Western Philosophy by Anthony Kenny is fairly robust.

Just read everything by Plato. Everyone afterwards is trash. I worked my way backwards and I never realised what a genius he really was. Plato was right about literally everything.

>/lit/ please tell me what to think about this book because I read it and I didn't get it because I have no capacity for independent thought and I shouldn't even be here but I think reading books is really hip

Is Bardamu's pessimism and negativity warranted, or is he just frustrated, like you?
Is this book good, or just a meme? What are your opinions on it?
>>9317367
No good. It might be useful if you an autist that cannot experience empathy.
Rand's fiction is poorly written, she knows no subtlety nor how to make a story flow.
Her philosophy is really bad, she is like a low quality form of Nietzsche and max Stirner that took pride in not being well read on philosophy. She is only popular because of cold war hysteria about the soviet union.
I recommend reading something by the 19th century russians Dostoevsky or Tolstoy instead. They knew subtlety.
>somewhat interested in a book
>doesn't just read it to form his own opinion
Why are American novels largely unreadable? Do your schools not teach grammar?

I need to take a shower wait am I supposed to be thinking about writing something that would fit in a novel or just shitpost whatever I'm thinking right now. is everyone forcing quirkiness or what? Yeah I really need to get around to finishing Moby Dick too. It started off wonderfully but I kind lost the energy to continue reading it about three quarters of the way through. I wish I could be a whaler.
I need some suggestions of public domain books to read out loud that would appeal to the broadest possible audience.
I would also need it to not be overtly racist, so no Nigga Jim Tom Sawyer type, please.

I developed an appreciation for the histories in college during my Shakespeare class. I have a copy of Welles' "Chimes at Midnight" coming to me via interlibrary loan. I'm excited to dig into that.
