How would you fix this paragraph, /lit/?
Delete all of it, replace with a detailed description of him tying her up and raping her. The whole novel would be about how he rapes her and breaks her spirit. Kind of like Lolita.

> replace "Just sleep together, in the most innocent sense of the phrase." with "Just sleep together, platonically."
>replace "thinking that if people were rain, I was drizzle and she was hurricane." with "wishing i were dead."

I'm still fucking convinced he stole part of that from the Axe deodorant ad that's voiced by Keither Sutherland

I'd honestly have to sample the drugs.
I define dystopia as a society that wastes resources to uphold an image that is considered "ideal". So in that sense, yes, it's a dystopia. Realistically, it would crumble eventually because of all the waste.
Are these really that bad or is just a meme?
They are bad if you're into high lit.
They're pretty good if you're into genre fiction.

As far as fantasy books go, the first two books are alright. It's in book three onward that his lack of skill as a writer really starts to show, and the plot has just been drawn out to a ridiculous degree for no discernible reason.

The 3rds was good too. The 4th and 5th are pretty bad though. GRRM needs an editor bad. It is a shame we will never see the real ending too the story though
Liberte, egalite, fraternite
These words are basically the foundation of our current society and understanding of the world. Are there any critiques of this out there? Why are these so axiomatic?
>Why are these so axiomatic?
Because history has been a controlled dialectic since the Masonic revolt of 1789.
>>9316127
I guess that settles it. Thanks anon.
jean-luc nancy was obsessed with the idea of 'fraternity' as a model of anti-thanatopolitics until derrida thoroughly trashed the idea in Rogues. he never used the word again after that.

Oops, wrong image.
If I've already seen the movie, is the book worth a read?

The best order to understand the comedy is movie then book then movie then book again.
Seems stupid to say this but you get solo much more out of the movie after the book and watching the movie first makes sure you dont miss that its supposed to be an absurd joke not grimdark
>>9314254
OK, thanks! This will be the next book I read then
>>9314256
It's really good but for the record you CAN skip the part about Genesis and the part about Whitney Houston, there's nothing in them that you'll miss.
You'll know what I mean when you get up to it

What is the best John Green novel?
Other than Min Kamp, what works written in the last 10 years are destined to be considered all-time classics 50 years from now?

What's some good paranoid fiction? Not necessarily conspiracy stories but stories about more or less delusional and schizoid characters.

There was a story about a fresco in an apartment that was in occupied territory and the characters acted unnaturally out of fear that they were being listened in on for the entire story until they were arrested. I don't remember the name though, sorry.

Why do people enjoy's Sanderson work? Both Way and Words were absolutely awful. They seem to be filler up until the last 100 pages but even then those pages aren't even worth it. Was majorly disappointed with Words as I had a ton of people telling me how great that book was and said it was much better than Way. Seriously, what the fuck? It seems out of all of the fantasy I've read, the only one I've enjoyed has been The Last Wish. I wasn't too fond of Sword of Destiny, although I like Ciri.

>“Why are breakfast food breakfast foods?" I asked them. "Like, why don't we have curry for breakfast?"
"Hazel, eat."
"But why?" I asked. "I mean seriously: How did scrambled eggs get stuck with breakfast exclusivity? You can put bacon on a sandwich without anyone freaking out. But the moment your sandwich has an egg, boom, it's a breakfast sandwich.”
