I want to get into this after watching the Lynch movie, the two syfy miniseries and the Jodorowsky documentary but my friends tell me it gets worse as it goes along. And it isn't gradual, it's a sharp drop off a cliff. So in /lit/'s opinion at which book does it get bad?

It's too vast and unstable in time to be fit for accurate description in it's entirety. You could probably condense only 4chan and it's trends in some 200-300 pages, even though the last 2 years would take up about a half of the book.
