How do you concentrate while reading?

>I'm not degenerate.
Then you'll never be smart.
>>9352235
>How do you concentrate while reading?
Go to a quiet place without any distractions. Failing that, I probably won't bother trying to read something.
I don't have any trouble focusing on a single task if there aren't any active distractions in my environment.

Why is art important? Is it not important at all, and people are just saying so because they've heard this repeated a million times before by smarter people than them and don't want to look stupid, but in reality don't really know why it would be important? Please don't refer to vague generalities like "it gives me a life that is truly examined" or "it helps me touch the sublime" or "it is the most beautiful source of meaning" and try to give a real understanding, not one that you are just regurgitating from others. If you are going to say shit like "sublime" then explain what you mean by sublime and why it matters.
>>9352133
This is really something that way too few people do.
>>9352133
>he doesn't know the sublime

>Is it not important at all, and people are just saying so because they've heard this repeated a million times before by smarter people than them and don't want to look stupid, but in reality don't really know why it would be important?
This seems like a pretty convoluted trick that "smart" people would have to be playing for literal millennia
Fucking neolithic people made art, man, stop being a paranoid idiot.
Also I think art is valuable for lots of reasons, not least of which is striving towards sublimity. "Sublime" has a real meaning, if you don't know what it means you can look it up. Not sure why it's confusing to you or what you mean what you say when you ask what it means.
You did it /lit/, another collab successfully written and published.

As of now it will be on Createspace for paperback purchase, but in 3-5 business days it should reach other major channels of distribution such as Amazon or Book Depository.
An ebook version should be available by the end of this month.
Meanwhile, here's the proof of your handywork!
just marathoned the the title
what did I think of it?
The soul becomes dyed with the colour of its thoughts.
What did he mean by this?
>>9351931
that your thoughts determine how you are or whatever
>>9351931
If you think about too much orange stuff your soul will be orange. Orange being red and yellow makes an angry coward.

Zoroastrians and Christ taught the same thing.
>Stephen King, Tom Clancy and Stephenie Meyer majored in English
>Rowling studied the classics at University
Seriously wtf, there is no excuse for these people. If they knew no better than schlock it would be understandable for them to write so much of it. I get it, they write for the masses to make bank, so they don't insert complex themes and symbolism, it's all plot. But after 4 years of reading good lit and writing essays and stuff isn't your prose expected to be decent at least? Is this what succesful English graduates amount to, airport fiction writers and literary prostitutes?
>>9351914
A major in English isn't that much of a prestigious achievement.
>>9351936
this

This is the biggest paradox in the arts. I explain it that once you make money, your entire identity changes. You become a brand. Then you defend the brand with your life. All aspiration went out the window long ago.
help me /lit/. i just finished It. should i read Needful Things or The Stand next?
>>9351711
Do you want more horror or shift away from it? I quite like the Stand but it's more dark fantasy in a post-apocalyptic setting than horror.
>>9351711
Just finished what?

What is some essential reading for people who are smart but lazy?
Slacker genius protagonists preferred
Damn, honestly you're probably way to smart for any book anyone can recommend you. Maybe just read the dictionary and reconstruct every conceivable book in your mind.

Stop reading Nietzsche. From an analytical standpoint, he is worthless. And non-analytical philosophy is shit.

>not editing your work before writing anything down
Just today I finished editing a two years old poem I wrote. And by finished I mean that I will only edit it again a couple of times.
Are you spying on me?
>>9351553
So? What's the problem? Editing is part of the process. The hardest part has already been done, now just work on it.
