Would you ever date someone who doesn't read?
>>9372455
I've basically only dated girls that don't read.
That's so awful, arrogant and pretentious. People who talk like this usually have an excessively favorable opinion of themselves, and read more escapist trash they like to display than proper literature. I've never dated a person who doesn't read but it's incidental, I would gladly meet and go out wouldn't it be the case.

Would you date a girl that couldn't read?
Is it weird that I only read books about serial killers?
>dae edgy?
>>9372370
I haven't read that but read Zodiac, Helter Skelter, Through the Window (Tommy Lynn Sells), and plan to read a Green River, Running Red next.
>>9373912
I haven't read any of those. Currently reading about BTK. Guy was a sick puppy.
>Writes sci-fi
>Tells everyone it's not sci-fi

Learn from Atwood
This is how it's supposed to work. You don't accept the sci-fi label if you want to be successful

You forgot
>sell rights to major content provider that specializes in pretentious serial drama
>>9372339
it was successful because it's a well-written feminist novel and was therefore deemed culturally important
>>9372361
She's been extremely successful since the 80's anon, I don't think a new adaptation has anything to do with it.
start with a daily journal to get you in the habit

buy a pen and a note book.
Make the pen really nice, so it's a pleasure to use for even writing a shopping list.
Then write.
Is this book worth reading? I'm only a few pages into it, but the writing is fucking horrible. Confused as to why this book is so celebrated.
>Suddenly he slid into her heat.
better than ulysses
>>9372305
I'll give you another sample:
>under the moon on the sea of her, his fingers were knobbed peninsulas.
>>9372298
It's "of it's time". There must be better experimental fiction out there.
Been re-reading lately and have read in decades. Very good developed characters and IT is terrifying. Recently found out this book as connections with other works like the Dark Tower series too.
Thoughts? What other good Steven King books? Looking to expand my collections.
>>9372288
Dude idk how you're doing. I have 100 pages left and can't get myself to read the book it's so boring.
>>9372288
Oh jesus.. first time here?
Enjoy your visit

> Very good developed characters and IT is terrifying
No need to lie just admit that you liked the gangbang
Is it worth learning about common archetypes, monomyth, hero's journey and the like before reading the Greeks, and if so, what are some good books on that topic?
pls respond
>african intellectuals
You guys are always quick to say which dude's a pseud, so tell me, in your opinion, what separates a pseudointellectual from an intellectual? Then post authors that fit your definition.
imo: an intellectual knows that he's probably a pseudointellectual.
My pseud: Hesse
Int: Joyce
Pseud: You
Int: God
An intellectual is someone primarily interested in pursuit of knowledge.
A pseud is someone merely interested in giving off the impression of being in pursuit of knowledge.
A retard is an annoying teenager who doesn't understand the meaning behind those terms, yet feels he's in a position to apply them as judgement to greatest literary minds in history.
Examples:
intellectuals - most people in scientific research,
pseuds - that guy that gets pussy by namedropping french philosophers,
retards - you.

How do I reconcile my deep belief in Christian Anarchism with my readings of Nietzsche and Stirner? They make just arguments but I still want to be perfect and sinless.
Build yourself a theology around them and interpret them in a way that makes them fit
>>9372124
Probably easier with Nietzsche than with Stirner t b h man
>>9372124
Nietzsche doesn't really speak against God, but people's degenerate interpretation of God.
What did he mean by this?
Anyone liked pre-Trump Taleb more? Maybe it is my own political bias but Taleb always struck me as the middle ground
In antifragile he said he had issues with both the left and right, but ever since Trump came along he doesn't seem as critical anymore
He is still often right though, even about Trump
>>9372203
Trump has drawn out the vacuous posturing so hard. He is the world's most powerful magnet for this shit.
It is laughable that we had months and months of "Trump will lose" opinion and immediately after he wins we get mountains more """analysis""" such as "Here's why Trump won" or whatever.
I was listening to BBC radio just now and after this Trump standing up to Putin on Syria stuff they just barely acknowledged the previous 6 months of conspiracy theories they perpetuated before insulting Trump some more for not acting in a generic presidential matter.
I shouldn't have stopped spamming the phrase academia-media-publishing industrial complex.
trump's a chump
So, what is your opinion on Oscar Wilde and his works? I have seen people praising him and people saying that he was a horrible writer.
>>9371838
He's at his best in the Critic as Artist and The Decay of Lying. Two small essays well worth reading more than once.
He's on Morrisey's side
>>9371969
Your thoughts on his following works?
The Ballad of Reading Gaol
The Nightingale and the Rose
De Profundis
what is the greatest literary trope and why is it the superfluous man?
>>9371769
Superfluous man is boring and disgusting. Underground Man did it better.
But personally, I prefer the madman-is-sanest-guy thing.
was he a superfluous man lads?
>>9371769
It is obviously the flawed tragic hero.
>>9371712
He died like a bitch in a war using all these ideas.

Is he a good author?
>>9371702
Is there a name for titles such as this, or Triumph of Will? Other examples that sound like this?
Yes.
>>9371756
You could call it a snowclone but it's probably just a coincidence.
>always hear that women are discriminated against in publishing
>start researching literary agents for my work
>like 80% of literary agents are women
what's going on here? most of them have 'feminist literature' listed as work they're interested in representing. how is it possible that women are discriminated against in publishing?
>he hasn't figured out that identity politics isn't about equality or justice, it's about dispossessing the groups that have traditionally been in charge in the west
The feminists lied to you, anon. Now you must kill them. All of them.
They're New York women as well so it's a certain kind of woman.
