what famous authors browse /lit/? or do they probably not even bother?
I do.
>>9373815
I do. I'm from the future where I'm famous.
>>9373826
but you're not famous, dave eggers
Is being a wagecuck better than not working at all?
Both suck, but not working sucks less.
>>9373803
>Is being a wagecuck better than not working at all?
Obviously, unless you aren't working because you're already wealthy. Wagecucking is less /lit/ though.
depends on the circumstances. when I worked at shitty factories and warehouse I would have rather just been poor. I work from home now so that's fine and I have money.
Why do all the online book communities like /lit/ only read fiction? It seems that all the discussions are about the generic "Top 100 Books of All Time" lists and YA novels instead of books on economics, history, business or technology. Does nobody read nonfiction?
>>9373724
Reality sucks. Why do you. Think you're reading books in the first place.
>>9373729
I read mostly non-fiction so that I can apply what I learn directly into my life to make it less shitty. Why do people here waste hours of their time trying to piece together what some old Greek man meant by "existance"? How does that enhance their life more than learning about ways to improve their communication skills or cooking?

what the fuck is this nigger shit OP
Read a couple short stories of hers, didn't mind them. How is that coming along OP? Worth reading by itself?

Who's works should I read before reading Kant,Hume, Spinoza and Nietzsche
I know it's a broad question but I'm specifically trying to work towards Deleuze's writings on art, specifically Francis Bacon: The Logic of Sensation
I'm an art history undergrad so my exposure to philosophy is pretty piecemeal.
I couldn't find any pre-requisite suggestions for the aforementioned text but lots of people suggested Spinoza etc. for Anti-Oedipus
thanks!
I'm not Deleuze's most dutiful scholar, but I think it's safe to say to advise you not to go through all of this effort just to read Deleuze's thoughts on art in their "proper framework".
Just read them now and enjoy/understand what you can and want, then work, methodically and in your own time, through everything you find to be connected to the man's name, then read them again.
Rather you should read backwards, read Deleuze then Spinoza.
>>9373126
>Francis Bacon: The Logic of Sensation
I tried reading it from a layman's perspective. One of the hardest books i've ever read. I went back to Robert Hughes and Andrew Dixon within 2 days.
You should read the Bible.
recommend me books about old hermits.
Laurus by Vodolazkin. Main hero is a hermit, grows old by the end of the book.
The Sayings of the Desert Fathers. You'll have your fill, believe me.
I want to write the best rhetorical analysis ever. What are some resources I can check out? I already learned to be overly critical of everything from 4chan, but I want to do a crazy good RA.
Pls help and pic unrelated I didn't have anything around cause I'm not the type of person who has images on their computer that are not porn
Pls help I repeat
Come on guys some of you must know their stuff for formal literature criticism
Or is there a relevant book for this? What do I even search for?
>>9372967
If you want to make write the best rhetorical analysis and can't come up with it yourself just end it now desu
>tfw need to stop eating junk food and coffee to stop wasting so much money and start unleashing my gym gains but they soothe the pain from my lack of purpose
>tfw wasted all of 2016 working 16 hours a week retailcuck job, living with parents, squandering 99 % of my free time on the internet
Sitting around in my car, drinking coffee, feeling bad about my life, and browsing 4chan has been my main hobby for over two years.
I have a good temporary job coming up but it is worrying how easily I waste time and how I'm 25 and without a started career. I always did well in education but my engineering degree means shit. Thank god university was free.
>>9372767
Perhaps you can read some books and then discuss them on the literature board
Your engineering degree means shit?
Assuming you actually did well, and you can communicate reasonably well at least in written form (maybe my expectation of /lit/ are too high), then you're just making excuses for yourself. There's no way you can't find as much as an entry level internship somewhere.

STOP POSTING THIS SHIT
No one here can help you. Sort yourself out motherfucker.
Hey all, trying to remember a book I read AGES ago when I was a kid (though it was not a kids book)
Here's what I remember.
-there was an alternate history angle, our earth but cut into a ton of different nations and religions.
-One of the characters had a "double revolver" basically a revolver with two barrels and chambers side by side.
-the character with the double revolver was going to kill his step father while he slept with it, but decided against it.
-one of the characters was a slave girl.
-one of the characters was conscripted into a hyper-religious army and had to hide that he was good at drawing or else he's get in trouble
--All the characters had dreams that caused them to dream of the others.
Sorry I don't remember much, but it's all I got, if anyone has a clue of what it is, I'd really appreciate it.

No, that's not it, it wasn't futuristic, it took place in a world that had roughly....1900's level tech? maybe late 1800's?

The Bible
I've read so many books, but not one has helped me with my depression for any length of time and none of them have altered my view on life fundamentally enough to make it liveable. It feels like I have to kill myself like the entitled, weak brat that I am.
I've decided to read one more short story before I do it. Which one would you recommend?
>>9372565
Go back to /r9k/, you worthless frogposting piece of subhuman shit
If you're serious OP, then you have to understand that you have a mental illness that is not going to be helped by any sort of book. It is a chemical imbalance that can be fixed with medicine and/or therapy. I was depressed for many years, convinced that it was an existentialist issue or something, completely unaware that it was just an illness. Seeing a doctor is the first step.
So how much is autobiographical and how much is fabricated?
>>9372563
42% and 39% respectively

What does everyone think about this guys list? There are a few surprise commissions and admissions, but I overly find it very interesting, and what I recognize of what's there gives me confidence to explore some of what I don't recognize that he's included.
Pic unrelated

>10. Finnegans’ Wake, James Joyce, 1941 [The greatest unreadable novel ever written.]
Too many burgers as usual.
The justifications make me immediately doubt the intelligence of whoever made this list.
Should I read it?
>>9371571
live it
unironically yes
>>9371571
It's worth a read if your only knowledge of Hitler and his life comes from high school history teachers talking out their ass
Thoughts on this?
Have any of you actually read it?
I thought it was a little underwhelming but otherwise not bad
