How do I read without losing track of the meaning of the words in my head?
The words are all familiar to me its just I can't piece them together quickly and sometimes I just hit a wall where I stare at the sentence and can't read further without thinking about some memory I had when I was called not very nice things
What is wrong with me? I am 20 years old
There's nothing wrong with you. People like you should only read poetry

But I have exhausted all the shows I can find so in order for me to ascend and reach greater levels of escapism I have to read, I have to read books
I have to read books and read them fast enough to feel immersed, I can't keep on backtracking and rereading because my brain doesn't function properly
No I have to read books fast to feel immersed enough for escapism

Read and after that re-read. I had to read every short story from borges 2 times.
/lit/, I need your help.
A relatively long time ago I saw a tweet with a link to a PDF file which was written by someone who was/is (don't remember) in ISIS.
It's about 50-60 pages, and throughout the book a night sky and the colour dark blue is a recurring theme.
I remember one particular story in it, where the author was guarding some military outpost and he saw a cat. It was really cold outside, both him and the cat were freezing. The cat finally sat in his lap. He then went on about how this is connected to their worldview.
Does anyone have the PDF? Or have a link? Or at least know the title? I can't find it anywhere.
It might be in Inspire, just google around for a copy of that, it's a free magazine.
Just to clarify, do not google for the Inspire magazine, especially if you're anything other than white, you will get partyvanned.

desu I want to give one of them a look out of sheer morbid interest, but I don't want to get flagged up.
Hello, I am looking for a novel that has more complex than average vocabulary, especially collocations, so I can learn from it. It should be contemporary (after ww2 at least) and preferably short (200p or so).
I've been looking around but can't seem to find something suitable, so I had to turn to /lit/.

Imperfect duties do not follow at all from the categorical imperative.
Kant used reason to discover the limits of reason which is just about the dumbest thing you could possibly do.
How do I help my creativity

Walk in woods and treat it as a aesthetic experience.
Come back and try to channel that timelessness you've experienced into some good art.

What does /lit/ think about Chris McCandless? Was he a hero who took action doing things his favorite authors could only dream and write about, or was he an idealistic kid led astray by his romanticism and killed by his own naivety? Would his hero Tolstoy have respected him if they met? Was his final conclusion that happiness is only real when shared correct?
I've read Into The Wild. The author had to make half the shit up just to make McCandless not look like a total loser.
Idiot child. Should have just been a male model and eventually coked himself to death instead
Like Grizzly Man, he's a loser lauded by bored suburbanites who wish desperately that their lives had a modicum of challenge and danger.
It's one of the greatest novels ever written, in my opinion. Absolutely astounding work. But I'm wondering if the plot actually makes sense, or if there are one too many coincidences and contrivances...
But perhaps contrived plots are characteristic of most of the greatest works of literature.
I lived a Gatsby experience for a while, except I'm not rich and Ididn't get shot
gatsby and wolfsheim contrived that stuff themselves

2017. Planning on getting steven pinker's how the mind works for a better understanding of how psychology works. Is this book still applicable?
or should I start with the ancients like Freud
>>9382416
Pinker is middlebrow and isn't something you should read with genuine interest.
He's going the exoteric "well someones gotta teach these dumb goys" route, his content is accessible and lukewarm in concept. A /lit/autist should aim higher

would it be okay to read this as a foundation for psy and just continually read other related books ?
honestly idk if reading freud today is regressive or obligatory to comprehend the psyche
Post your best argument against social contracts.
don't try to trigger me fgt
Social contracts work just fine if they're based on religion.
Without the unifying force of a common spiritual bond, there will always be tension in a social contract. Without the impetus towards charity and selflessness, everyone will fulfill the contract JUST enough to avoid them getting in trouble with everyone else, and their self-interest will compel them to seek whatever ways they can find to cheat the contract.
It's a workable system, but hardly ideal. It doesn't produce the best of men.
>he doesn't have sittlichkeit
Is this sentence correct/good?
>One day, he put his coat on and grabbed a rifle, heading to the roof.
>Correct
No, if 'heading' was meant to be a participle, the syntax is fucked, if gerund - the tenses don't work. Also, general narrative statements, like the ones that start with 'one day' work better with present simple
>One day, he puts his coat on and grabs a rifle, and heads to the roof
>Heading to the roof, he put his coat and grabbed a rifle (also ugly as fuck)
>One day, he put his coat on, grabbed a rifle, and headed to the roof
>>9382140
I don't think you need that first comma. Other than that, I don't se anything wrong.
>>9382140
>One day he put his coat on, grabbed a rifle and headed to the roof.
>One day he put his coat on and, grabbing a rifle, headed to the roof.
>En route to the roof one day he accoutered himself with coat and rifle.
>he reads fantasy

That sounds more like a strained analogy than a philosophical question.
