Genjokoan is pretty essential but not "beginner" in that it won't spell out what you need to do. Give it a shot tho

How do I write spooky horror stories?
18 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9427836
Some great writer said some shit like: (and I'm paraphrasing here) Man's oldest and basic emotion is fear and the oldest, most basic fear is fear of the unknown. Most of the appeal of spoopy stories like Alien or The Thing is that both the characters and Audience have very little information about what is lurking around the corner. All the gore and screams can happen later. But reveal your antagonist slowly and shroud it in mystery for the most effect.

Before anyone jumps on this anon for fascism or whatever, I want to say that I am a hard/far leftist and still think Mosley was basically a good man trying to be good.

His interest in Syndicalism and Guild Socialism, his early roots in the Labour party (and the leftist ILP, also the party of, for instance, Orwell), and his anti-exploitation opposition to globalisation are all fairly inspiring, and good evidence of a basically good man.

That said, I am glad his British Union of Fascists got shot down and basically ended up in ruins. Who knows what crazy shit he would have ended up doing in the geopolitical situation of pre-WWII chaos.

Absolutely not. That's the economic equivalent of A Universe from Nothing, and Sowell is just black social science man. That book's trash written for mathematically illiterate mouthbreathers. It transforms a regular uninformed person into one who is uninformed but thinks he has some education on economics. That's much more dangerous.

Who fucking cares?

No seriously, 90% of this article is a nonargument. I say this as a huge DFW fan: I don't give a rats ass if the quirky sperger wouldn't have approved of the film. Which is the entire foundation. Do you think any work, ANY decent work could be made if the artist had to seek approval from those around him, or even what the work is about first? I'm not saying *End of the Tour* is Godfather, but if this raging faggot wants a sterile clean work approved by the artist, he can watch 'Cool as Ice' and let me know how it goes for him.
>>
Film and television have always been like this. Nobody gets "BTFO" unless the bottom line is in the red.
Which, if one is attached to a major media conglomerate, is pretty fucking hard to do.
Stop being assblasted, it's a dramatization of a weirdo from a magazine meeting a weirdo from the literati.

For old English, Icelandic is rather close. I actually just picked up this book from a used book store yesterday. Pretty excited.

My dad actually studied Old English as part of his degree, so there is definitely a lot of material for it if you are interested.
