I'm about a third through this. Why does it get hated? It's a good book. Obviously no novel is worth using as a religious text so that's a strawman. I was expecting a love letter to CEOs and billionaires but it mostly presented money as a reward for giving the vulgar masses what they want. Keating, Francon, and heyer are rich.
Also Ellsworth toohey is so devastatingly spot on I could see the "intelligentsia" and /lit/ hating this book for him alone.
Also I'm like Roark but without having found a passion. I can't understand the normie hivemind or relate to it at all. I always knew it was due to a quality I had rather than a defect

It's written like shit. PAGES AND PAGES OF NONSTOP DIALOGUE.
>>9993458
It's not written like shit. I think it can get airy fairy when Dominique bits are emotional but that's it.
I can see why you'd say that if you were some sort of modern literary fiction or pomo worshipper who has an MFA. But these people are faggots.

Is this your first book?

Hi /lit/
Can you recommend me a good book about 18th century european literature and a good book about 19th century european literature? Thanks.
Pic unrelated.
>>9993288
Why do you want to read about the literature instead of reading the literature.
>>9993357
I'm already reading the literature, i want some secondary sources to complement my reading and to understand better what i'm reading.
Besides Harold Bloom?
>Reading Lu Xun's essays on literature
>I'm having actual fun and feelings even when he openly denounces foreigners
Why is it that interwar era literature and writings are so good?

Yu Hua has some good stuff, bought stories of ah q because Yu Hua was influenced by Lu Xun but haven't got around to reading it.

Is Mo Yan a good writer?
>>9993331
Republic of Wine is pretty good.
I find it somewhat funny and somewhat disgusting, but the multi-layered plot is pretty good. The character names are often just puns.
If you had to deal with corrupt bureaucracy and communists before, you will feel at home.
What are some /lit/-approved notebooks?
>>9993244
the kind with blank pages that you can write on
Loose leaf
If I may.... I present for /lit/'s consideration what I assert to be The Patrician's Choice of notebooks.
Muji's A5, unlined & completely plain, ringbound notebooks. I find these to be good quality, not too expensive or pretentious, and a pleasure to write on. Importantly they're not lined. I can't stand ruled notebooks.
/lit/ I want some really sad/depressing books. Preferably not too long and NOT based on true stories.
Thank you
Stoner

Holy shit this thing is bad, how the hell is it getting so much praise?
I mean I knew that pop literature was crap, but this is on a whole other level.
And I see idiots everywhere praising it while tossing around terms they don't understnad.
Most people are idiots, what else is new.
>>9993023
>praising it while tossing around terms they don't understand
Example please. I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious.
Wow you must be so much smarter than all these sheeple dude

How to make friends and influence people
It's 7.47 pm, laditos. What shall I do? Go outside drinking coffee to feel less alone? Thursday is busy enough to make me feel less alone but not a party like Friday and Saturday where Chads and Staceys are ready to enjoy life.
Or shall I sit at home and read more of the fountainhead? Howard Roark reminds me of me, though I haven't yet found my passion so I am like Roark when he sits at his desk or doesn't know how to interact with the normie hivemind
7.47? fucking where, iceland?
>>9993011
Think he means 7:47 am honestly.

I forget to update the time after accidentally posting the topic on /tv/. It was 8.39 when I posted this topic and now 8.54.
Hi /lit/
I have an irrational phobia of cannibals
The very thought of my body being eaten by someone else makes me really uncomfortable, and even writing those likes makes me shiver
But while reading the Book of the New Sun, thanks to your recommendation, I found the part whenVodalus makes Severian eat Thecla's roasted corpseboth disturbing, to the point of making me feel nauseous, and strangely fascinating
So I want some books to make me understand cannibalism in its whole. What makes people feel the urge to eat an other human being's flesh. If possible, not too disgusting or gory, etc.
Thanks
I'm gonna eat you
read stuff about albert fish
Bumping for interest
Also are the Hannibal books worth reading?
The Silence of the Lambs movie was pretty neat imo, didn't see the others tho
>tfw reactionary who enjoys po-mo and certain Frankfurt School texts
no one gives a shit chud. There are lots of reactionary critical theorists.
Make sense considering both schools of thoughts detest capitalism
>>9992846
Being reactionary isn't cool anymore, its fedora-tier.
I have to write a hook sentence for my essay and I have no clue how to word it. Choose a job and how history shaped it. Then I chose Psychology so I thought for 2 hours and can't think of anything so can anyone can HELP ME if you do ill site you in my work :).

This is one of the worst aspects of capitalism, it's so thick and gooey and stuck together like a capitalism baklava shit sandwich that it's hard to even pry apart and make sure you note every layer, but it's like your house burns down and CAPITAL ONE sends a genetically engineered cyborg to your front lawn to say

There's a turn around '38, with Adventurous Heart. After that he focuses more on the anarcho-botany. So get yourself Adventurous Heart and On the Marble Cliffs, his WWII diaries. Everything I've read by him was great.
Bolano seems to have had a thing for him, though I haven't read him, but Junger makes an appearance in By Night in Chile and 2666 if I'm not mistaken.
If you can read German, get the Schmitt-Junger correspondences and then translate them into English. Thanks!
Recommend me /deer/-core lit.
I wholly support this thread.
