anybody recommend an particular typewriter?
i figure i need one for some reason
>>9484643
Only reason to get one would be to so you can write on somethign that can't access the internet, so you don't get distracted, in which case there are electronic gadjects that are like a keyboard that store what you type in a .txt file or something similar, with only a small led screen. I can't remember what they're called.
If you want an actual type writer for anything purpose and you aren't some sort of budding collector/typewriter enthusiast -- kys.
>>9484652
Oh about those led screen .txt file things. I know there's one called a "Hemingway". But from what I remember, they are horribly overpriced.
I believe there are cheaper ones available.
I tried writing a novel on a typewriter but ended up abandoning it and going back to my regular computer. I still use it for smaller projects, like small essays or blogposts, but it's too much of a hassle.
> sitting in the university cafe, coffee, laptop, books like the bible, meditations, confessions, etc open. using them to make citations in the dissertation i'm writing.
> a sort of qt girl comes by and checks out my books
> "oh hello, just looking what you read" - this is honestly how she said it but I didn't think twice, whatever
> "OK, just got an essay i'm writing, y'see..."
> "Are you a christian?"
> "Not really but I do apply some of the positive aspects of christian ethics into my own lifesty--"
> "So you hate gay people then?"
> "What? N-no, I mean, many christians are very accepting of--"
> "Don't you lot believe black people were cursed by God because they left Israel?"
> "What"
> "These are all really racist books"
> group of people from another table, some girls and a black guy overhear her say that and start shouting
> "The fuck are you reading nazi shit for?"
> "No, no, it's for an essay..."
> "Racist shit isn't cool, mate" - the black guy is knocking my books off the table and sits on the table, making sure to nudge my laptop out of the way
> he holds my coffee and knocks it over the table and my notes
> one of the girls literally says "Hit him!" enough times
> I try gathering my books off the floor, they push me over and walk away laughing.
> notice one of my books is gone, realise later that the pages have been ripped out from it and dropped along the corridors as I leave the cafe
Anyone got any stories with dealing with plebs?

This didn't happen but holy fuck just thinking about this possibility made me angry.

Just be thankful that God didn't choose a more cruel way to smite you for your pride and lust, heathen.

If you can pirate it, read along with this. One lecture=about 3 chapters.

Basically concerns how modern Europe was wrung out of the Roman Empire. The movements of Barbarian hordes and the rise of Islam up to Rome's ultimate death in 1453 (Eastern Empire). Very easy to read, even fun. Get into a rhythm and it quickly passes. Loved it.
Where should I get my news from? What are some /lit/ newspapers or magazines to be caught up with world events.
Books published no earlier than six months in the future

For world events, unironically /pol/.
And then find the right medium for a specific field of interests, whether it's art, science, the government or whatever. I don't know of any good medium that reports broadly.

>Who here sincerely and frankly admits that they are superior to most other people
I admit I'm smarter in many ways than 99% of people, at least scholastically and in terms of abstract thinking, comprehension and academic knowledge. Although, I do suck at mechanical tasks and I have poor social skills.
I'm also better looking than probably 90% of people, and physically stronger than 75% of men.
tbqh, I'm pretty good, apart from shit social skills and no ambition or motivation.
This is a literature board, though, btw.

How can people unironically believe this garbage?
Never heard of it before. Who is this Hitler man and what is he known for?
>>9484352
Nobody really. Its weird its very common to meet Communists who read Capital but even intellectual Fascists seem to view Mein Kampf with a patronizing dismissal.
I suppose its largely because Hitler wasn't remarkable for his ideas none of which were particularly novel so much for the pure personal gravity in which he embodied them.

Seriously, what the fuck are you doing? Reading and understanding the Bible and being able to spot allusions and understand synthesis of its concepts is infinitely more useful than being able to do the same with the Greeks.

ITT: write four words that you think an author is well-known for using, and others try to guess that author.
I'll start:

blue
nacreous
bidibiddle

but where's the fun in that
So, I was thinking last night about how aggressive the internet feels and wanted to gather opinions on why. It seems that these days everybody sees conflict as the norm, often going on the complete defensive before acknowledging somebody else's point of view.
Obviously, 4chan is sort of the extreme side of it but even more 'normie' places like Reddit do it (though perhaps quietly, more like suffocating somebody with a pillow of downvotes). Don't get me started on newspapers: comment sections are awful on those.
Is this a /lit/ subject? Not exactly, but surely somebody (or something) has written articles or books covering this subject. It's also directly related to literature in a way given that when we read we do so to appreciate somebody else's perspective (the inverse of what I'm referring to).
Personally, I realised how many of my opinions are formed despite knowing very little about the subject. It's a terrible philosophy to have when you think about it.
(pic unrelated)
>>9484144
Because you don't have to look at the other person when you call them a retarded piece of shit. It's just a venting ground really, anybody who really wants to learn avoids any sort of comments section other than to find out where they can learn about something.
The internet doesn't seem very aggressive to me. It used to but I've learned to stop arguing over stupid shit. I still occasionally get angry or passive aggressive comments and responses but usually if you respond to them without responding in kind they'll start matching the tone you set. It's just like real life, if somebody walks up to you and says "hey you're a dumb piece of shit and your wrong about this argument for that reason" and you respond to that by screaming and calling them retarded then it just becomes a shouting match and conversation becomes impossible. Instead you should stay calm and try to ignore the comment about you being piece of shit, acknowledge any legitimate objections they have (from their perspective) and then respond to them. There's a good chance that they'll calm down and start listening.
I think if you practice this regularly you'll find that the nastiness of the internet evaporates.

>Is this a /lit/ subject? Not exactly, but surely somebody (or something) has written articles or books covering this subject
People have probably also written about cuck porn. But do you see that in threads?
In terms of prose, what should I expect? Is it anything like Absalom, Absalom! where the sentences are 30 clauses strung together by semicolons?
>>9484124
Sample prose from Joyce's Finnegans Wake:
Thefall (bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonner-ronntuonnthunntrovarrhounawnskawntoohoohoordenenthur-nuk!) of a oncewallstraitoldparrisretaledearly in bed and lateron life down through all christianminstrelsy.
This is what you should expect. He just spews whatever crap comes into his head like a child. It's really immature and has no literary merit.
>>9484149
Come on. I haven't read Ulysses or Finnegan's Wake, but even I know that the style in Finnegan's Wake is waaaayyyyy different from Ulysses
