yes, but he could have benefited from a little introspection about why his christian family had to leave islamic egypt for a western christian country...

Absolutely, though I don't think it was his plan to be appropriated by SJW evangelicalism

In certain respects, but his overall argument has a strange element of "Occidentalism" to it, which contains the same logic as the Orientalism he's criticizing. Also, a peculiar overreliance on arguments that could be characterized as "Western" or as having their grounds and sources in Western philosophy. Trivial where true, and interesting but terribly incoherent otherwise.

Ignore the haters, OP. I recommend the "Book of the Dead" anthologies edited by John Skipp and Craig Spector:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_the_Dead_(anthology)

"The Old Man and the Dead" by Mort Castle in the second volume is the best zombie story featuring Hemingway you'll ever read.

This is the best version. Believing any of it is true requires a great deal more reading in theology and a certain lack of skepticism.

I'm looking for talented writers - preferably very talented.

Basically what I want is someone who can realistically describe a scene in where I am sitting on a couch cuddling with a cute girl. The romance needs to be described believably; she really loves me, I really love her. Things get frisky and finally we decide to lose our virginities together.

Reckon you can do it?

I'm 22, blonde hair blue eyed if that helps.

Ada is his best work, but I'd recommend to OP reading Pnin and some short stories first. Ada is his most fully-realized work, and it helps to acquaint oneself with his way of writing and thinking.

But yes, if you want straight-up quality literature, Ada is a supreme masterpiece.

Anyone get into reading skip the Greeks and go straight into postmodernism? The past 2 years I've just read Gaddis, Mcelroy, Pynchon, Barthelme, Coover, Federman, Stein, vollmann, Delilo and that sort. The only classic lit I've read is all of joyce, except wake and some woolf. Am I fucking up? I'll obviously get to that stuff once I'm done with this. I feel like reading is so easy now. Nothing challenges me.

Finnegan's wake? More like Finnegan's piece of cake
>>
nah its all good

when i got into reading in highschool i was mostly interested in contemporary and experimental stuff like DFW, Pynchon, and Bolano. I didn't even know what "postmodernism" was, that crass and eclectic style just made sense to me, and it's good i think, for a young boy's mind.

there's no right or wrong way to read. go with what you're enjoying. if you truly love the art you will naturally grow into a love of its roots

Can anyone tell me about Jeff Vandermeer's work?

His Southern Reach Trilogy seems kind of interesting to me, but I also see he's done a Steampunk story or two somewhere which raises red flags.

Do you recommend him? Is there anything worthwhile, aesthetically or philosophically in there?

I do not recommend. He takes an interesting concept and makes it boring.
>>
>>9495429
Boring how?

Any other criticisms?
>>
>>9495414
It's weird fiction, otherwise known as Lovecraftian, but more modern, not as verbose as H.P.L. I'd say it's decent, I have only read Annihilation.

I miss the old /lit/, straight from the /book/ /lit/.
I hate the new /lit/, the full reddit /lit/;
The always /pol/ /lit/, philposting shit /lit/.
I miss the sweet /lit/, reading the memes /lit/,
I gotta say, at that time i wanted to be /lit/.
See I invented /lit/, it wasn't any /lit/,
And now I look and I look around and there's so many/lit/s.
I used to love /lit/, I used to love /lit/,
I even had the trilogy, I thought I -was- /lit/.
What if, /lit/, wrote a book about /lit/,
Called "I miss the old /lit/?" Man that'd be so /lit/!
That's all it was /lit/...We still love /lit/...
And I love you like /lit/ loves /lit/.

Is it as good as LoTR?

The only thing these two book franchises have in common is the medieval warfare theme. I read a deal of Tolkien and I enjoyed his use of language more than I did Martin's. But Martin's plot-weaving shows great skill and is something that Tolkien had never thought of back in his time. If you haven't read LoTR, read that first. But, since it is implied that have, I think this series will amaze you. Enjoy!

Don't read it. First 3 are good, next two are garbage, final 2 will never happen. Unless you like being blueballed after having your cock pummeled..
