Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
A soft breeze blowing
Carrying gather sweet smell of flowers and soil
Birds chirping in joy
As if a divine phenomenon
Hath taken away all the darkness
And hath brought light upon the earth
A beautiful at touché the the soul
And maketh one sing along
It's beautiful symphony of bliss
Mother Nature giving everyone
All she can
Without asking anything back
I'm horrible at writing.

It looketh like I don't deserve the aforementioned thread
I write horribly
Maybe it's because I don't have much to say now
And I've just grown silly.

I read this book a month ago and I really like it, but I can't feel but a little, uh, disappointed.

I mean, everyone always talks about Cormac's books as stuff will fuck you up.

The only time I felt sick was the headless baby being cooked but nothing more.

Is his other stuff more fucked up or people exaggerate this aspect?

This is probably his most "tame" novel but imo it's the most accurate depiction of a post apocalyptic world.
>>
>>9999711
Like I said, I loved the book in every other way.

I just expected more shock since this author is pretty popular for that.

Be honest. Have you ever read this from front to back and followed it every step of the way?

I've read it methodically twice or thrice. First in 2010 when I studied philosophy and again a couple of years ago.

Is this a good Greek with which to start?

I don't know if it was just the translation but I felt like there was something transcendent and sublime about prometheus bound, if you like the occult you'll love it.
I wouldn't recommend it for your first greek play though, just stick with the standard sophocles or euripides.

Why would you start anywhere but Homer?
>>
>>10000219
One starts with Attic because the vast majority of preserved Greek lit is in that idiom. Then back towards Homer, or forward towards koine.

No, nowadays everything requires a name, number, and photo ID. Whether you're shit posting, or buying groceries, the information age has mostly been about getting our information.

4chan represents a very very narrow demographic and is actively hostile to a lot of commonly held views. So no.

>"start with the greeks," they said.

I did, and then I read the medievals and pre-enlightenment thinkers, and now I believe God is good, God is One, life is imbued with meaning and the moral dimension is real; we will all return to Him who created us.

Now if I read modernist books that deviate from ancient wisdom I pity the author and shake my head in disappointment; our youth are being corrupted by false values, false art and the whining of nihilists, atheists, and systematic philosophies that lead nowhere and have no foundation.

What was beautiful, healthy and self-evident in the past is being inverted and people think indulging their base passions is freedom, not realizing they are turning into slaves of nature and "satan", they could be so much more, if only our authors did their jobs properly.

Artists have a duty to express truth and do it in beautiful terms. Not to obfuscate it and make it so abstract that it becomes meaningless and uncertain.

I enjoyed the Greeks and the Medievals for their fiction. But the philosophy seemed non-sensical, angels-dancing-on-a-pin tier.
>>
>>9999473

>angels-dancing-on-a-pin tier.

that's modern philosophy, basically word games devoid of substance, jargon on top of jargon.

>The move from a structuralist account in which capital is understood to structure social relations in relatively homologous ways to a view of hegemony in which power relations are subject to repetition, convergence, and rearticulation brought the question of temporality into the thinking of structure, and marked a shift from a form of Althusserian theory that takes structural totalities as theoretical objects to one in which the insights into the contingent possibility of structure inaugurate a renewed conception of hegemony as bound up with the contingent sites and strategies of the rearticulation of power.

And this sort of gibberish has been happening since Descartes/Hegel/Kant/Marx/etc decided to take respective dumps on the world.

Hey just while we're on science fiction, I remember hearing about this story that takes place in the far future where everyone lives in a giant building because theres demons outside or something crazy and I can't remember the name, help?

Are there any decent theologians/apologists who focus on more practical things like living in a shit world with shit people? Sort of like Kierkegaard.

What is your favorite book passage?
>Holmes, the camp mistress, informed me that Dolly had gone Monday (this was Wednesday) on a hike in the hills with her group and was expected to return rather late today. Would I care to come tomorrow, and what was exactly—Without going into details, I said that her mother was hospitalized, that the situation was grave, that the child should not be told it was grave and that she should be ready to leave with me tomorrow afternoon. The two voices parted in an explosion of warmth and good will, and through some freak mechanical flaw all my coins came tumbling back to me with a hitting-the-jackpot clatter that almost made me laugh despite the disappointment at having to postpone bliss. One wonders if this sudden discharge, this spasmodic refund, was not correlated somehow, in the mind of McFate, with my having invented that little expedition before ever learning of it as I did now.

"And then there was Twisk, who usually appeared as an orange-haired maiden wearing a gown of gray gauze. One day while wading in the shallows of Tilhilvelly Pond, she was surprised by the troll Mangeon. He seized her about the waist, carried her to the bank, ripped away the gray gauze gown and prepared to make an erotic junction. At the sight of his priapic instrument, which was grotesquely large and covered with warts, Twisk became frantic with fear. By dint of jerks, twists and contortions she foiled the best efforts of the sweating Mangeon. But her strength waned and Mangeon's weight began to grow oppressive. She tried to protect herself with magic, but in her excitement she could remember only a spell used to relieve dropsy in farm animals, which, lacking better, she uttered, and it proved efficacious. Mangeon's massive organ shriveled to the size of a small acorn and became lost in the folds of his great gray belly.

Mangeon uttered a scream of dismay, but Twisk showed no remorse. Mangeon cried out in fury: "Vixen, you have done me a double mischief, and you shall do appropriate penance."

He took her to a road which skirted the forest. At a crossroads he fashioned a kind of pillory and affixed her to this construction. Over her head he posted a sign: DO WHAT YOU WILL WITH ME and stood back. "Here you stay until three passersby, be they dolts, lickpennies or great earls, have their way with you, and that is the spell I invoke upon you, so that in the future you may choose to be more accommodating to those who accost you beside Tilhilvelly Pond."

>In the human life time is but an instant, and the substance of it a flux, and the perception dull, and the composition of the whole body subject to putrefaction, and the soul a whirl, and fortune hard to divine, and fame a thing devoid of certainty. And, to say all in a word, everything that belongs to the body is a stream, and what belongs to the soul is a dream and vapor, and life is a warfare and a stranger's sojourn, and after- fame is oblivion. What then can guide a man? One thing and only one, philosophy.
