Why is that?

It just tells you shit that's already obvious.
Holy fuck nobody ever told me how long this book is.
couldn't you tell when you picked it up and it was thicc?
Wait til you get to the end and realize you've wasted your time. King is a hack

>nobody ever told me how long this book is
for you
Holy shit, currently listening to the audiobook while walking my dog every now and then and fuck me is it the comfiest thing I've ever read in my life
His sprawling and metaphorical imagery is so ethereal it has me in awe over how his ideas translate through the haze
I mean this more of a direct quote but fuck me: "We do not ride on the railroad; it rides upon us. Did you ever think what those sleepers are that underlie the railroad? Each one is a man…."
/Lit/'s thoughts?

I've always wanted to go see Walden pond. I need a cabin.
sounds like the type of bland imagery a walden fan would appreciate
go do lsd in the forest or something, anything has to be better than thoreau
>tfw OP doesn't realize he's having a comfy mystical experience while reading the transcendentalists and "nearing himself to nature" (Rilke)
You should read Emerson next
Why is the Bible so hard to read/understand ?
which bible
>>9553551
Ok so I just went to a history museum today in Iceland and now i'm interested in the Bibble and christian history works
>>9553555
KJV
What the fuck is he fucking doing /it/? I spent two years reading his magnum opus and secondary literature about him and I still don't have a single clue of what part five means. What the fuck is the third type of knowledge? I'm dying for this.
>>9553550
Who is this guy
>>9553550
>Additionally, a core doctrine of Spinozism is that the universe is essentially deterministic. All that happens or will happen could not have unfolded in any other way. Spinoza claimed that the third kind of knowledge, intuition, is the highest kind attainable. More specifically, he defined this as the ability for the human intellect to intuit knowledge based upon its accumulated understanding of the world around them.
>>9553550
I hear a LOT of people end up thinking the third type of knowledge is Science, or the practice of science. This is horseshit.
I've always felt that by intuition, he means intuition. Same as how, if a basketball player practice through games thousands of times, he will 'encode' within his instincts which move to make at any given variable of the game at play, garnering from just a momentary impression the right body response to this play.
Spinoza is talking about being like the Michael Jordan of life, how much more superior it is to have the bodily wisdom weft into you, rather than being another intellectual ninny having to articulate everything in the lesser form of step-by-step, 1, 2, 3 knowledge that we tend to practice. I'd guess having all of the best habits engrained into you
>complains about people who criticize Marxism without having read even its most basic texts
>proceeds to criticize capitalism without having read even its most basic texts
Why are literally all leftists such sanctimonious hypocrites, /lit/?
Objective fact: if you've never read Milton Friedman, you are too dumb to discuss the merits and failures of capitalism
>Smith
Oh the irony.
>battering a strawman to make yourself look cool
kill thyself

At this point Friedman can only be read for historical context. In theory his ideas make sense but in practice they don't.
>Reading and comprehending the Greeks
>Not wanting to lift/get big
These are mutually exclusive, bros.
My dream is that I will lift so much and get so big that I will become like a neoclassical sculpture of the archetypical Greek hero, perhaps Diomedes. Then I will walk around always reading a book in one massive hand, and I will get a girlfriend. Even when I'm naked and not flexing, all of my muscles will be completely taut and bulging and I will completely dominate a room with my presence. I will fuck my girlfriend.
>>9553273
>Reading and comprehending the Greeks
These are not as mutually exclusive as you think, bro.
>>9553273
>understanding something and agreeing with it are the the same thing
what did he mean by this?
Dostoevsky´s junkie here. Post some of your favorites.

Humiliated and Insulted and Poor Folk are underrated. Also, reminder to read Russian literature without a translation.

I like the dream of a ridiculous man, but no one ever really talks about it.
Well, it actually happened. I can't believe he's gone.
Rest in peace, Professor Bloom.
good

What yhe fuck we literally have a thread up about him dying. Well I guess it's up to us to carry on his legacy.

What does /lit/ think of Ligotti? Either his philosophical non-fiction or his short stories.

Into the trash it goes.

Really enjoyed about 30% of his short stories, but most of it was ruined by his unnessecarily pretentious vocabulary. Sometimes he finds the right balance though
Hey /lit/, /fit/fag here. Is bookzz.org reliable? How do you guys read pdf files? Would an iPad mini be good enough?
Sorry for all the stupid questions. Pic not related.
I'd recommend getting a cheap ereader.
You can get a kobo for about ÂŁ30 - $40.
Then just download ebooks and drag drop them into the ereader using usb cable.
Bookzz.org is good. So is libgen.io.
The ebook channel on the discord is good, a few guys on there have large amounts of ebooks which they'll happily upload for you: https://discord.gg/gyFF5b9.
>>9552531
Okay. Thank you.
I already have an iPad. Does Kobo have any advantages over the iPad? (Should I still buy one?)
>>9552503
I have never used bookzz but maybe?
Most people here who use tablets use a Kindle and the Kindle store (which you can download on ios)
iPad mini wouldn't be my first choice but if it doesn't bother you, then the tablet hardly matters
whats woolf's best novel, and why is it To the Lighthouse?

I think Nael is great
Dunno why you used an unrelated pic, though
I'm really into the idea of sexualized abusive relationships, but all the books on it seem to be 50 shades of grey tier. Is there a more literary alternative? Written from the womans perspective (duh)
>>9552316
You can sexually abuse me senpai desu
>>9552316
It's not really about sexual abuse, but I'd recommend The Collector by John Fowles. It's about an art student Miranda, who gets kidnapped by a rich guy and is forced to live in a cellar of his home because he believes "she'll start to love him", when she'll see how well he treats her. In the cellar, she has pretty much everything one could wish for - except freedom. Most of the book after the first part is narrated from her point of view (as she writes a secret diary). It's exhilarating and heartbreaking
>>9552855
I want to be the abused one though
lads, this may seem like attention seeking, but I need your help. I'm trying to write a suicide note.
I don't want to discuss the specifics, but I'd like to do something that makes sure that people will understand why I did it that it's no one's fault.
However, I don't know if I should make something a few pages long and address everyone I care for, so that they see that it was inevitable, or if that'd be unhelpful and I should just write a few words to address the situation in general.
I don't want to be too blunt and make it seem I didn't care, but I also don't want to make it seem like I was unsure.
Please help?
I'm really not interested in being dissuaded here, so I'd be grateful to you lads if you could just give me some advice.
just put in some alan watts quotes or something if youre serious, your grieving family doesnt need edgy memes, leave a positive memory
also most suicides fail and leave you more fucked up than you were before
>>9552195
>just put in some alan watts quotes or something if youre serious
but I want them to be my words, not from a guy they've never known
>also most suicides fail and leave you more fucked up than you were before
Yeah, that's something I don't get
Not counting the times that people go into comas and shit, why'd you stop trying after a botched suicide?
You'd just have more reasons to do it
>>9552215
Because when they're in the middle of dying they realise that they were just being a faggot and want to live.
