>Wrote my 250,000~ word first draft with ink and paper
>Have been transcribing for the past 2 weeks to computer so I can edit it
>only 95,000~ words done so far and know I have transcribed some mistakes during the mind-numbing monotony of typing and typing and typing

There has to be an easier way to do this

Can we just admit that skimming wikipedia and watching youtube videos is a better way to understand philosophical books than actually reading them. You still learn all the big points but much faster and in a more comprehensive way.

Probably not true, and also some philosophers are definitely worth reading for the prose, particularly Nietzsche, Plato and Aquinas. (even in translation if you are a pleb)

Please let this be bait.
>>
>>10036674

You are right, but people won't admit it, because they don't want to admit that reading pages and pages of repetitive, self-referential text is a waste of time. If these books truly did have revolutionary insights we would easily be able to see what they were.

What are /lit/ 's thoughts about this book? I'm currently reading Dune and I want to know if this book is worth my time.

If you are a right-libertarian you will probably like it because it confirms your biases. If you are not, you probably won't enjoy it, cause it is not really a good book.
>>
Your time doesn't seem that valuable if you have to make a thread instead of looking for last week's one. Or the thead of the week before. Not to mention that you're already reading genre fiction anyway. But still, to answer your question, it's a bad book. It doesn't matter if you agree with her "philosophy" or not.

What's her philosophy exactly?

I know a hundred ways to die.
I’ve often thought I’d try one:
Lie down beneath a motor truck
Some day when standing by one.

Or throw myself from off a bridge—
Except such things must be
So hard upon the scavengers
And men that clean the sea.

I know some poison I could drink.
I’ve often thought I’d taste it.
But mother bought it for the sink,
And drinking it would waste it.

Another item that’s painful to bear
and that’s an ancient pro who’s too prettied up
or any poor strumpet giving herself airs.
I hate ladies who’re too proud of their legs.
And I hate down to the dregs, saalve regina,
a big fat woman with a tight vagina.

Were all the scenes in the Bell Jar of her trying to kill herself supposed to be that funny? It feels like they were, but I could never tell. That's some top rate Looney Tunes shit.

Finished reading this last night and can't stop thinking about it. Jesus Christ, what a downer. All life ends in failure. It is devastating.

life is work. it always was for stoner, ever since he started on his families farm. i wouldnt say its sad but really just disappointing. he manages to do his best during terrible times.

and
>did edith have bpd?
>did edith destroy graces life?
>was lomax really that terrible, or just so overly insecure he has to cripple stoner as well when it looks as though stoner is messing with the other cripple student?
>was stoner weak?
>is it better to live like stoner and not let most shit get to you? or would his life had been better if he had stirred shit up when he could have?
>whats the purpose of the campus and teaching to stoner?
>whats the contrast between stoner and his professor?
>>
>>10035748
With me it started with failure, not sure where it will end
>>
>>10035783
>did edith destroy graces life?
Yes. she pressured Grace to be "popular" and Grace bought popularity the only way she could - by becoming a slut who screwed half the boys in high school and college. forcing her into being somthing she was not made her an alcoholic.

>was lomax really that terrible, or just so overly insecure he has to cripple stoner as well when it looks as though stoner is messing with the other cripple student?
Yes, he was terrible. It was all down to letting his mask of ironic amusement and reserve drop when he got drunk at Stoner's party and made himself vulnerable. Walker the crippled student was a weapon of Lomax to screw up Stoner's course and reputation.

>was stoner weak?
I wouldn't say so, he was a stoic.

>is it better to live like stoner and not let most shit get to you? or would his life had been better if he had stirred shit up when he could have?
I wish he had fought back against Lomax and divorced Edith when she started fucking up Grace.

>"I could not write about "ordinary people" because I am not in the least interested in them. Without interest there can be no art. Man's relations to man do not captivate my fancy. It is man's relation to the cosmos - to the unknown - which alone arouses in me the spark of creative imagination. The humanocentric pose is impossible to me, for I cannot acquire the primitive myopia which magnifies the earth and ignores the background."

Does anyone else relate to this sentiment?

Frankly speaking, I don't give a shit about women, non-whites and even the majority of white people repulse me and stuff like family, love, mortality etc bore me. Is it fraudulent to write about such things considering the above?

Do you by any chance possess a wicked sense of humour, good Sir?
>>
>Understand that people are interest
>Interested in understanding people
>No interest in people generally speaking
>People are a fundamental part of literature
>People are a fundamental part of publishing
It's one of those things where I think I should give up being a writer altogether.
I don't relate to any of your specifics though because even Lovecraft had an interest in families, love, mortality, and other sentiments like that. He just tended to twist them toward existentialism and horror.
Maybe you should start there. Write about those things from the perspective of someone like you. Although I think we have enough of that in modern lit as it is.
It's not like not you're a fraud already.

What's your opinion on the "A very short introduction series?". Was thinking of getting one to orient myself a bit in some domains, being metaphysics and postmodernism.

More readable and almost always more thorough and trustworthy than the corresponding Wikipedia article. Better suggestions for further introductory readings too. Haven't read a duff one yet.

What are some books that begin with a big battle scene?

I'd like to start off a story with a bang, but here are my thoughts.

Pros:
>action scenes are typically good hooks
>something is actually going on the reader can just jump into

Cons:
>characters are not established yet
>why does the reader care for a battle that they have no stake in?
>deaths feel forced and disingenuous to overall plot
