You're probably going about your dates the wrong way.
If you want to go slow go somewhere cheap for your first date, like mcdonalds or starbucks or something just to get some coffee.
Second date maybe go for beer, but don't go to gay bars or clubs or anything like that. Go to a pub, and not a fancy pub, just a regular pub.
Third date maybe see a movie.
etc. etc.

Basically you have to keep your distance from the other person by not investing so much time and money into each of your outings otherwise they'll get the wrong idea and think you're ready to ramp things up a notch.
Like if you go out to a fancy dinner on your first date they're going to think you're DTF. You spent a bunch of money so the logical conclusion is you want to get something out of it.

Also protip: never go to your dates house. That's basically codeword for you want to fuck.
