Yep. Life sucks but thats life. Landed right on his leg.

Feels bad that he pointlessly broke his leg training for an obsolete mode of warfare.

A better question is why he got the boot at all? Broken bones heal, ligaments and tendons can be re-attached. WTF is with the US Army? Dont they need soldiers atm?

What exactly happened? Did he land wrong? How are you supposed to land?

>Broken bones heal, ligaments and tendons can be re-attached
Depends on how bad the break is. even if you heal enough to walk, will not magically make it good as new.

Life is not an anime, a couple months in a hospital isn't a cure all.
>>
>>32337105
>Broken bones heal, ligaments and tendons can be re-attached
Not perfectly. Break something bad enough and you'll live the rest of your life with less capability and more prone to injury. Long marches with heavy load are bad enough for your body even without previous injury. No point in risking a pointless casualty further on.
>>
Aww poor guy ;__;
Would this just end his airborne career or his entire military career?
t. clueless
>>
so he locked his knee and got fucked?
>>
>>32337105
>Dont they need soldiers atm?
No, we're down sizing like crazy. Like anything that can possibly be used to either chapter you out or keep you from being promoted (therefore ending your career early) is being being used. For him I guess it was probably that he fucked his leg up permanently and it has affected his ability to perform.
>>32337068
I know, those filthy enlisted think they can make a career out of the army.
>>32337089
Okay general armchair. I'm sure you've written extensively about this and practically run war college.
>>
>>32337036
Fuck Georgia
>>
>>32337164
I'm sure he could work logistics during total war, but the military is not going to bother with him when they've got more than enough applicants.
>>
>>32337164
if he's got the qualifications/aptitude, he'll probably be transferred to some desk-jockey position. otherwise he'll probably get some honorable/less than honorable/medical discharge (i don't know military shit)
>>
>>32337171
Either that or fell right on top of his legs instead of off to the side.

>>32337164
When you spend your entire career getting there, thats over. He will still serve more than likely, until his term is up.

He wont be chaptered for a broken leg.
>>
Sucks but he'll get getting a check for the rest of his life. That should take the sting out of it.
>>
>>32337210
The army has you for four years, they wont let you go. He had the aptitude to get to airborne they will find a spot for his next two years or so.

It takes serious shit to get a medical discharge.
>>
>>32337036
You are now aware that every during every jump, 10% of those members end up with some form of injury.
>>
>>32337226
>The army has you for four years, they wont let you go
Says the dirty enlisted filth who posted this.
>>
>>32337117
So he locked a knee?
>>
>>32337226
>It takes serious shit to get a medical discharge.

BULLSHIT! I've seen the military try to force people out for failing a hearing test. Note! eep in mind the people weren't even combat arms. They were admin.
>>
>>32337252
Or he hit a hole in the ground and couldn't do a proper fall.
>>
>>32337244
>>32337257
Well i guess shit has changed. In peacetime i would be happy as shit to get medical. All the benifits, none of the time.
>>
>>32337282
Shit shoot for medical in peace time. All those great benefits and it makes it less likely they'll try to draft you in a big war.
>>
>>32337216
I wish I got hurt during my enlistment.
>>
>>32337139
>even if you heal enough to walk, will not magically make it good as new.

Ahh yeah it does, this is the 21st century not the 1860s
>>32337151
So what its not like every SF soldier has sustained a break or orthopedic injury requiring surgery and a year off. They get to stay on why cant grunts?
>No point in risking a pointless casualty further on.
If the man is willing to take the risk he should be allowed to continue.
>>32337174

>Med discharge defenders

The military needs to understand that its more detrimental to send a man on his way disabled then it is to keep him on disgruntled yet fit. This is the reason so many vets are killing themselves; you cant ask a man whos been indoctrinated and institutionalized to just leave with an injury and expect him to go back into society.
>>
>>32337359
SF soilders have a metric fuckton of money poured into them. These guys comparatively dont.
>>
>>32337359
>If the man is willing to take the risk he should be allowed to continue.
Not on Uncle Sam's money and time, you retard.
>>
>>32337359
further more the military has a duty to care for men who cant perform yet who cant go back into the real world. NATO should take a page from the French Foreign legion and build million dollar chateaus were broken vets can go and live the rest of their lives away from society, making win, getting drunk and being attached to their institutions. You can keep the super annuation.
>>
Someone who knows what the fuck they're talking about tell me what happened here.

Did he know he was about to eat it?

Is dropping your pack off like he did standard procedure, or was he trying to lighten the impact?

Did he do something wrong or was it unavoidable?
>>
>>32337359
>Ahh yeah it does, this is the 21st century not the 1860s
>the "IDS TWUNNY SEXTEEN" defense
No, no it doesn't tardo. Go ahead and clip your Achilles tendon, see what happens. They'll roll it back down and reattach it, but you'll be limping for the rest of your life retard.

Professional athletes are prime examples of this.
>>
>>32337036
Feet and knees together, live forever.
>>
>>32337392
This.
Totally not an important tendon by any means but my sister entirely severed one in her hand, that controlled her pinky. It was reattached but she will never get the old range of movement and mobility back. The tip still doesn't bend and the finger itself won't bend all the way, she can't make a normal fist anymore, but at least it does bend.

Better than nothing but it will never be the same. That's a super minor tendon too, I can only imagine how shitty it'd be with a major one.

It's not pretty, but trying to throw a wrench in the machine to help one person is worse for the organization than just letting them get chewed up inside. Not saying the people who determine these things don't care, but they only get numbers by the time your information makes it through
>>
>>32337257
This. Its all in how you play it. A jump that breaks bones could be better than a winning lottery ticket, or you could screw yourself.

You lower your equipment at 200 feet AGL, it is still attached to you via a HPT lowering line and dangles 30 feet below you, so you can land without it smashing into you but its still close enough you can drag it to you with the line.

He pulled a one riser slip into the wind, and because he didn't ease into and out of it he was oscillating, you can see by how much his ruck is waving back and forth beneath him. That oscillation combined with locking your knees leads to "Lawn Darting" and becoming a "Meat Missile"

I always try and come in sideways, over exaggerating the bend in my knees. We don't have oscillation issues with the new chutes, we have issues with them being sluggish to react when we pull slips.
>>
>>32337579
>>32337547
Thanks for the info fellas

Do military parachutes fall much faster than parachutes used by skydivers? Smashing your leg into 9 pieces doesn't seem to happen to skydivers often.
>>
>>32337105
It was a spiral fracture and his leg was broken in 9 places.
>>
>>32337579
>"Meat Missile"

>>
>>32337625
IIRC the military continues to use ancient, fucking retardo parachute tech because its cheaper. The SF guys get the better more square chutes that are actually controllable and help you land more comfortably.

You know, Mike Bossy, Brandon Roy Troy Aikmen.

Don't compare a minor fracture to your leg during to splinters, idiot.
>>
Bad PLF. He landed going forward. I always landed on my left side, if I could. If you release your gear, like he did, you 'might' start a pendulum effect which can fuck up your landing too so a lot of guys 'rode their gear' in.

"elite soldier"

>starts crying when he breaks a bone
>>
>>32337994
Some people have a low pain tolerance. Also spiral fractures and a break in nice places I'd be more surprised if he didn't.
>>
>>32337994
you'd be crying like a little bitch if it happened to you tough internet warrior
>>
>>32337384
Everyone is saying he landed wrong, but you can see he is falling much faster than everyone around him. I NEVER do a proper PLF, sometimes its just feet-ass-head, and sometimes I kinda pull my legs up and to the side so I don't fall straight down.

Looks like he was jumping with a T10 chute, which opened much easier but made you fall faster. The new T11 has a harder time opening, but provides more lift so you fall slower.
>>
>>32337994
>Fractures his leg in 9 places and slams into the ground hard
>takes 9 surgeries and a couple months to fix

>Lol, what a baby bitch, right?

No, fuck off. Bone fractures are one of the most painful injuries, and the fact that he remained coherent long enough to call for help and tell them what happened is impressive.

Real life isn't fucking call of duty where you can hop behind cover and wait for the red screen to fade after 10 seconds, faggot.

I broke my tibia and fibula playing rugby.

Heard a huge snap, leg folded underneath me, next thing I know Im on my back, holding it up and its bending in the middle, rotated 45degrees.

It didn't hurt for about 10 minutes, it was so bizarre, I was fucking joking around like a cunt while some fucker vomited cause he saw the way it bent lol. It only started to really hurt as I pulled up into the hospital. Then getting it reduced was unbelievably painful, despite the morphine, laughing gas and midazolam. Coming out of surgery hurt like fuck to, as it learning how to walk. I was basically in pain for 5 months, but yeah, I was super glad the adrenaline or W/E stopped the initial pain, that guy sounded fucking miserable

Sf sometimes uses squares, they sometimes use rounds. The purpose of rounds is to get you from the air to the ground as quickly
as possible with an acceptable injury rate. Squares are more for stealthy precision insertions. It depends on the mission which chutes they jump.
