This is the production method that will be used for the MSBS because they can't mill the internals from a single piece. What's not clear is if that's because of complexity or lack of capability. I mean, in the day of 7-axis CNC mills, some companies just stick to what they've been doing for a century.

It's not tig. The diameter of the bead is too consistent (which is doable in tig too, obviously, but someone who'd produce such shitty welds would not have the consistency seen in the pic). Plus as people mentioned, mig creates a smaller heat affected zone, so less worry about distortion on pretty important part.

That said, it's fuck-ugly and only appears to be a butt weld, so I question how well a couple stringers will hold up when it's violently slamming back and forth thousands of times. Especially since it only takes one crack and the bolt carrier will beat itself apart.

My guess is it's some demo model slapped together, because no self-respecting shop, let alone a major weapons manufacturer, would release that garbage to paying customers. Though it raises the question of why in the flying fuck they allowed that specific BCG to be the one that was photographed.
