Unless you live or work in a neighborhood where decent people have no business being, it's fairly unlikely, even in the already fairly unlikely event you even have to use a gun in self defense, that you'll be facing more than two assailants.

M88A owner here, mags have stabilized to $22-25, two years ago they could be had for under $20 if you could find them.

As far as parts availability, the trigger and hammer group are standard TT-33, the ejector is different for 9mm versions though.

The grip panels on the m57/m70a are taller than the TT-33s, surplus grips are out.

I made a extended baseplate for my m57 and had I'd 3d printed in stainless steel so I get 10+1. I haven't had a change to test it at the range but it works great and cycling. Once I know it works I'll post up the link so people can order it for themselves.

I use shapeways. I don't know if 3d printing would be good for an optics mount because the tolerances aren't great but for prototyping and multiple iterations their plastics are cheap. There is a company called protolabs that does milling as well as 3d printing and injection molding but I have not used them yet because I am not sure that this will be the final version.
