Why do most rifles use 30 round magazines as a standard?
It started back in Vietnam, when human wave attacks would come in at 30 attackers per wave.
The GI's would be outnumbered due to their 20rd magazines, and many would get killed while reloading.
The US Army decided to modify the 20rd'ers to 30rds to mitigate deaths during Vietnamese human wave attacks.
Ever since then, 30rds has been standard.
You're a pussy and don't know how to shoot prone,
You all are fucking retarded. 30 is even? Im the one who went to school apparently you all rode around in the short bus.
30 IS A PRIME NUMBER
10,20,30,40 ALL PRIMES
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST LOL
Let's say you want to blow off some steam at the range by shooting a full 30-round magazine. By selling boxes of 20, you need to buy 2 boxes, but then you're left with 10 spare rounds.
But now you have an half emptied open box of ammo that you isn't adequate for going to the range the next time, but still takes up space in your home.
So that OCD part (just like putting the volume in increments of 5, getting mad when a manhole cover doesn't align properly) in all of us tells us to buy another box of ammo, so that you either don't have to stop by the shop the next range trip or to treat yourself on firing some extra rounds.
Same with higher amounts, 7 magazines = 210 rounds, at 20 rounds/box you need to buy 11 boxes (220 rounds), but you're left with 10 extra rounds, so you might as well spend that little bit extra and get another box to get 240 rounds (or 8 magazines). Hell in higher quantities it's actually even easier to buy that extra box, you're already spending quite a bit, so why not add that tiny little bit more.
I never noticed this either.
The world suddenly makes sense.
>Bowls hold a small amount of cereal
>But cereal only comes in a huge box of multiple bowls
>Only one roll of TP fits on the holder
>But they only sell them in packs of like 12
Better then having to wear a safety helmet on the bus, faggot.
Don't be fucking obtuse.
>walk into local firearms retailer
>"I'll take ONE ammunition please"
>sorry sir, they come in boss of twenty
>DRATS!! It's a conspiracy, I say!!
You might buy one box of pistol, hunting rifle, or shotgun ammo, but I've never seen anyone buy one box of .223 or 7.62x39. Also, if you just want to shoot a few rounds why does the magazine need to be filled to capacity??

<A prime number is a number divisible only by itself and 1.
<math shit to prove urself right
No... Not even close.
30/30 = 1
and so on...
Prime... Like its not that fucking hard. You all are either trolls or fucking morons.
because 3 boxes fills 2 mags.
fuckin numbers man,...
I might have fucked up the first part of my reasoning with the low amounts. But my point still stands about the higher amounts.
If you buy 20 boxes adding one extra doesn't seem that big of a deal, but for the company that's still 10 bucks extra they make (and if you can sell a lot of those one-extra boxes that turns into a nice little profit).
People are weird in a lot of regards and a lot people like that satisfaction when something comes together like a box of ammo nicely filling up a magazine or changing tv volumes in multiples of 5 or getting pissed at people taking a bite out of a kitkat bar
30 is a nice balance between size, capacity, and reliability. Plus the immense momentum of support systems keeps 30 the typical capacity for military rifles shooting an intermediate cartridge. 40 gets a bit long and may interfere with shooting prone, may not fit some magazine pouches. More than 30 may also adversely affect reliability for standard box style magazines where geometry based on cartridge requirements, spring rates, and the ability of the follow to reliably move through the magazine are all important factors.
While there are certainly reliable as well as compact box magazines (surefire 60 round), the systems behind supporting 30 round magazines such as pouches, suppliers, machine tools to make said magazines, etc. etc. are so entrenched that it would take an apparent, dire, immediate need for larger than 30 round magazines to be produced as the new standard.
exactly. He probably made a mistake, and instead of just brushing it off as a momentary lack of brain power (happens to everyone, no problem), he decided to double down in the hopes that the old "LOLOLOL I WAS JUST PRETENDING TO BE RETARDED I TROLL U LOL U MAD BRO" act
I don't know what to tell you, I think you're looking for something that isn't there. To be honest, I buy almost all of my ammo in bulk with the exception of odd calibers so I don't even have a dog in this fight.
I used to laugh at the anti-vaxxers, the flat-earth crazies, and the chemtrail nuts.
And then you showed up, reminding me that people like you exist.
Next time the ayys take me I'm going to suck some dicks so I can stay on the ufo.
Im not a fucking math wizard its a common mistake when on google says a prime number is only divisible by itself well if you look at 30/30 it is 1.
1 is only divisible by itself.
So its a easy mistake to make even though I still think I may be being trolled because it doesnt make sense why would 30 not be prime.
The lot of you are all morons just going along none of you actually knew if 30 was fucking prime or not your all just copying what the first guy said to me
You keep a rifle in your fridge too?
>Im not a fucking math wizard
You're not even a fucking math apprentice. You're a fucking math janitor of the wizard's tower. And a bad one at that; the toilet still has the weird green film around the edge of the bowl.
the definition of even is if it can be represented as 2k where k is an integer.
I know this is bait tho
taking the bait is bait itself. I wonder if third tier baiting will become a thing when everyone catches on to this.
Oh my GOD guys quit fucking feeding him. I thought /k/ was one of the slightly less retarded boards.
WHAT IS MY IMAGE CALLED, MOTHER FUCKER?
>Same principle as selling hotdogs and buns in different packaged amounts.
That's actually because they're completely unrelated industries with different prep and packaging standards that don't talk to each other.
There are days when I browse /k/ hoping to get some insight regarding legitimate firearm issues.
Then I stumble into threads like these.
Well fuck. Atleast I have a kitty.
but even as a burger loving ar toting murican even i loves me some tea, maybe instead WE SHOULD START THROWING THE RUM WITH THE HIGHER THAN TEA TAX OVER OR WOULD THAT RUIN YOUR MELLOW YOU FUCKING BEAN
WOOHOO no longer forever alone seeya lonelyfags
So what's your caliber of choice? I'll pick you up a box of ammo instead of a box of chocolates. <3
This is.... beautiful.
cant wait bb ill bring you somethin special to (spoilers)itsmypenis(spoilers)
Believe it or not but 5.45x39 comes in 30 round boxes...it's almost like Russian ammo companies are smart or something.
Then again, Hornaday sells you a 50 round brick of 5.45x39 so I have no clue.
but I just have a feeling that back in the day most pistol cartridge boxes were 50 rounds because they were the same size as 20 or 10 round rifle cartridge boxes?
>Do you know how to even use Google?
Because the M14 used 20 and the army thought
>"20rnds was more than enough firepower for the soldier" said Eugene Stoner when asked about the magazine and what the army wanted
And the 20rnd count from the 50's comes from WWII with the BAR, to which that goes back to WWI when designed and 20rnds makes for a good rnd count / mobility balance and for shooting prone
>Anon posts genuine question about magazines
>Discussion occurs with some slight but typical shitposting
>FUCKING RETARD OUT OF NOWHERE
>50 posts of shitposting about prime numbers
>3 anons spontaneously decide to organize a wildly homoerotic meetup in Illinois
/k/ - A Magical Place
then when we encountered the AK in Vietnam the army was
>FUG! WE NEED 30rnds NOW :DD!!!
To which the Stanag mag was designed,
Also how the fuck do you think counting 10 bursts when there are a ton of gunshots and crazy shit going on around you rather than just not feeling the vibration in your gun.
why are unsharpened pencils as long as they are?
why are 3.5mm jacks 3.5mm?
why are there 251 pokemon?
Because it works. There is no definite reason as to why there is a specific amount other than 2 is too small, and 1,000 is too large.
just thoughing this out there, but it beign a EVEN number when the burst function fires in ODD numbers does not computer..
however, 30 is a multiple of 3, thus for burst ir works well.
yeah, in a mag, it'd be a big much
on a belt in a chute to somewhere easier to carry, 1000 could be nice sometimes
even number= number is divisible by 2
odd number, number is NOT divisible by 2,
prime number- a number that is ONLY divisible by 1 and itself, 30 is NOT a prime number...31 IS a prime number
i understand your autism, luckily we have a solution...see pic.
A 7.62 twenty round mag just feels right.
Twenty round 5.56 feels dinky.
Thirty round 5.56 is not too long, not too heavy, feels right in the hand.
A forty round triple stack just does not fit the hand well. As for drum nags, nothing but clumsy.
It's just the next step up from 20.
I'm sure if billions of dollarodoos were spent researching the optimum size/weight of an intermediate cartridge magazine, it would still be some number around 30.
Because if you have a rifle that uses detachable 30-round magazines you should have at least two magazines for there to be any point in them being detachable, hence buying three boxes of ammo for 60 rounds. And it magically also works for three 20-round magazines too, for some wierd math related reason like 1:1 ratios or something.
>captcha is bananas
Obviously only a european nu-male with an odepus complex would go into battle carrying a 29 round magazine. It is an affront to the gods of war, honor and premarital sex to even consider such a thing.
It is also obvious that a 31 round magazine wold slow a L33T 0p3r8T0r from their optimum high-speed, low-drag configuration to that of a beached diabetic whale who routinely neglects dorsal fin day at the whale gym.
Though half rounds are still under investigation, 30 remains the optimum number due to maths and the blood-god's unending thirst for more whiskey.
Now, machine guns have larger capacity due to them being a semi-stationary altar to the gods of war. Every time they fire a round, a sixteen year old american decides to slack off in highschool and join the military.
Current research into outfitting naval guns with 30 round magazines (with quick reload perk) is undoubtably underway in the foremost engineering firms of earth. One of my buddies was on the first crews trained to work the fire selector for these prototypes, this is a hell of a time to be alive komrades. I have even heard whispers of a double full auto selection where three rounds are packed into a 16 inch gun barrel and fired simultaneously through eldritch WD-40 magic.
My logic is that most m16s were 3 shot burst and a 20 round mag would get 6 pulls of the trigger with 3 shots and the 7th pull would be 2. So they put 10 more rounds to make things easier so you can get a clean even 10 pulls. Not 21 , 24 , 27, cause that makes inventory a fuck ton more difficult.
Cause mot manufacturers are faggots.
Pic related is another reason why Israel is my greatest ally.
just buy ballpark hot-dogs and ballpark buns
they both come in packs of 8 as they are literally made for each-other, problem solved.
You will never find a more perfect hot-dog to bun ration and size pairing than the aforementioned. I dare you to try.
Any of y'all in Illinois and wanna fuck/shoot guns?
