How could the United States win the War?(Besides avoiding it all together)
There are two strategies I see working.
The Kennedy strategy, and the Nixon strategy. The LBJ strategy was the uncomfortable middle ground between the two.
>Just say no to ground troops
>if the state can't hold with our help, it can't survive
>large amount of secret squirrel shit
Essentially, a standard Foreign Internal Defense campaign, like the ones the US had previously fought in Greece, South Korea, and China.
The Nixon doctrine was
>let there be no limit to the bombing
>the ground will shake until you make peace
>try and play the Chinese and the Soviets off of each other
>if Laos and Cambodia won't stop the communists from using their countries as staging areas, go ahead and invade them too
>make open threats against Soviet Union itself
>also try and built up the South Vietnamese as a fighting force, but less exclusively as the Kennedy strategy
Charge the hippies with espionage and frame them as Soviet spies. Try to shift public opinion to support the war effort while preventing the hipster fucks from spoiling it by making it unpopular. Proceed the war effort
Control all american media and journalists in Vietnam. All Video and other non-military surveillance is subjected to inspection and approval, etc.
We lost the war in Vietnam because we lost it in America.
Pump money into developing Special Forces in order to create a smaller, more specialised army to fight the NVA and Viet Cong with use of air strikes and helicopters to conduct infiltration missions and raids while simultaneously training the ARVN in counter insurgency tactics as well as using the CIA to smoke out the corruption within the ARVN. But as well keeping the media on a tight leash.
>have an actual
>kill and destroy everything in your way
>use fire bombing techniques and nuclear weapons
not pussy ass hearts and minds
>kill only uniformed soldiers
>not killing anyone who supports NVA
This is the reason we have failed at nearly every "war" since WWII, we take it too soft. War is not about security, it is about conquering
Bust the dams in North Vietnam and watch millions drown and starve. Invade North Vietnam and tell the Chicoms that if they pull some Korean War 2: electric boogalo shit they're in for a paddling.
This. We went in with no goal besides stopping the spread of communism. That may make a decent mission statement, but if you don't have a good end goal to work towards besides "let's just keep this up until they get bored and quit" then you're going to have a hard time winning.
except Afghanistan has a population of 30 million.... the soviets only killed 1.5 million.
We were winning. Our troops had a crazy stupid high KDR and we won every single engagement. We only pulled out because of pressure from the pussy hippies. Funny enough after we left in the name of peace, there was hundreds of thousands if not millions South Vietnamese purged by Charlie kek
>USA lost the Vietnam War
Maybe in the grand scheme of things, but no. We had bombed the shit out of North Vietnam's industrial centers, and despite all the movies you see, we had a pretty good K/D ratio.
What killed us, what made us "lose" democracy in Vietnam was the democrat party repealing the law that had us supplying South Vietnam. Also, mass protests from leftist hippies who were just discovering ideologies.
Did we accomplish anything? Did those millions of American dead sacrifice their lives for anything? We stopped the spread of communism at least into south Vietnam right? My uncle was infantry in vietnam and is an alcoholic psycho
>most of southeast asia became commie
Its quite impressive how badly america managed to lose the war in vietnam.
Despite winning almost every major engagement, America managed to lose the war, all the good will from WW2 and only at the cost of lots of dead americans.
This. Hippies and disarmament fags deserve to be imprisoned for weakening the United States, and being communists.
Actually, anyone who identifies as communist or socialist deserves the death penalty.
America didn't need to fight the war to achieve that outcome.
The Vietnam war only resulted in wasted american lives and treasure.
Don't be an idiot and defend this war out of a misguided sense of national pride.
>How many McDonalds are in Vietnam right now.
Hardly any. I've never seen one, and I lived in Hanoi for a bit a few years ago; I've only heard about a couple in Saigon.
KFC is pretty popular though, as well as some Korean place that I've forgotten the name of.
>Actually, anyone who identifies as communist or socialist deserves the death penalty.
Is it just because of "communist" countries?
Cause I can tell you that they failed miserably in creating any Socialist/Communist government, despite how much they want you to believe so. Those countries are oligarchies/dictatorships, plain and simple.
You mean Saigon, anon. Vietnamese still call it Saigon.
American who lives in Vietnam here. It's called "Saigon" when people talk to each other about the city casually, it's "Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh" when speaking about it formally or sending something there.
We did win it. The Vietcong and North Vietnamese government signed peace treaties at Versailles. One of the terms of that agreement was resupply to the south by the United States. The war was over then and there, but the new generation of democrat politicians got elected due to anti war sentiment and abandoned our agreement with the South Vietnamese.
Peace loving hippies caused over 1 million south vietnamese to end up in reeducation camps, and subjected South Vietnam to Communist dictatorship, not to mention wasting the sacrifice of 60 thousand Americans.
>No really guise, america won the war
When will this meme die?
Ethnically cleanse the Vietnamese and Laotians from the face of the earth.
That is the one single way you could end the conflict in your favor.
>but that's immoral!
You didn't say "how do I win the war morally", you said "how do I win the war".
This song is pretty vietnam
"And then someone yelled out 'Contact!'
and the bloke behind me swore
we hooked in there for hours, then a god almighty roar
Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon
God help me..... He was goin' home in June"
The US had an incredibly amount of restraint in that war. They had their hands tied politically the entire time. The way it ended was probably the best outcome politically.
If they wanted to "win" the war and piss off the entire world they could have just bombed every major north city and bordering countries. Also any villages that had any involvement with the north. Just full out carpet bombing.
>Allow communist influenced leftists with socialist ideals run amok, influence the ordinary population and bring it to our government
Look where that got us today. Shittingon he second amendment, political correctness, and extreme leftists fucking up our rights for the sake of being "politically correct". Even I classify as a libertarian, but when you allow an ideology that goes against our ideals, it'll spread like cancer and ruin our progression.
We were making progress but the moment we pulled out because of whining liberals, we lost it all and iur men died in vain. Followed by abuse from the population after our vets came back.
> How could the United States win the War?
Stop supporting an asshole dictator / junta in S.Vietnam.
Bomb the ever living fuck out’a N.Vietnam.
But in the end, China won the war for us, as now only the Philippines has a more favorable attitude towards the U.S. then Vietnam…
This thread is filled with twelve year olds.
Russia had a goal of only controlling a few regions in Afghanistan. They kept enough to protect their road systems and Kabul. Those regions had around 2.5 million people in it. 1.5 were killed by the Soviets and they still lost.
By giving the Col. ten divisions of men with the strength to cut off kids arms and leave them in a neat pile.
