Because the Sig already has enough of a cutout to rest on top of your hand to get a high enough grip and to prevent hammer bite. If you don't know why a DA/SA doesn't need a beaver tail but a SA semi-auto does then I cannot help because fixing stupid isn't my job.

I understand why a SA SHOULD have one but even original 1911's had a pathetic little one and even Sig's p238/239's barely have one even though they're SA. A beaver tail makes the sig p229 very controllable. I have shot both with and without and you can not get as good of a grip on one without. Also the SAO sigs that aren't elites don't have a beaver tail so you don't need one for SA either. You sure know a lot for not knowing much.
