How much would one expect to pay for a green Bakelite AK mag? How many of these are actually available in the U.S.?

>>
Depends. Is is museum-grade?
>>
>>28687120

How hard is it to make new bakelite shit? Can you not just pump some green dyes during the injection process?
>>
>>28687264
It was never bakelite, it was glass reinforced epoxy and the reason why no one remakes it is becasue it is more expensive for, at best, similar strength to modern polymer.
>>
>>28687120
Millions.
>>
>/k/ overthinking shit as usual

just paint a bakelite mag friendo
>>
>>28687264
Im pretty sure it involves formaldehyde
>>

>>
>>28687120
What I don't get is why current manufacturers don't copy popular designs. AK guys want circle 10s and bakelite. Why don't people copy those? Promag is complete shit yet they sell for the same price as magpuls AND ARE STILL IN BUSINESS because they make mags that LOOK like delicious circle 10 waffles. Why don't people just copy the good designs instead of making monstrosities like US palm mags and other crap like that...
>>
>>28687682
Because that will look good.
>>
>>28689544
Awarded to Berlin Wall border patrol.
>>
>>28687519
Wrong. The mags are AG-S4, a Russian formula of glass-reinforced phenolic resin. Bakelite is a (genericized) trademark for phenolic resin (commonly available in paper-, cotton- or glass-reinforced varieties). The mags may not be molded from Bakelite-brand resin, per se, but they're the same material.
In other words:
>AG-S4:Bakelite::Angel-Soft:Kleenex
>Bakelite:Phenolic::Kleenex:Facial Tissue
>>
>>28689589
They won't look all glossy and multicolored.

Unless... you paint them with something somewhat transparent...

Polyamide composite, like every other izzy 74 mag they made. Think plum 74 mags, except dyed green.

With such a violent reaction, I bet it was hard to mold, or did they like cut a brick of it once it was hard .
Im interested now
>>
>>28692429
Once it's set up it's pretty sturdy and impervious (famously it was used in ashtrays, it won't really burn) and can be carved to shapes if so desired. During manufacturing though, they usually used a slightly different formulation that was more plastic before curing.
>>
>>28692956
So is it liquid and poured to mold,
How did it becone catalyst-ized in the mold?
And they said you could use paper, wood, and such in the process of making it for the cellulose im gueseing , do we know what the mags used?
>>
>>28693258
im interested too now

$2100 ATM, TWO green polys confirmed, 7 minutes left.

>>28687826
this. phenolic resins are rarely used anymore outside of the few applications (heat barrier between rocket nozzle & body is one I can think of)
>>
>>28693761
And done. Over $4k for two Poly Green Border guard magazines.

So when the fuck are we going to start making dyed mags guys?
>>
>>28693836
wait people paid 4k for a couple ak mags? the fuck is going on in this thread.

Rob Ski already knows about it, and I'm sure AKfiles is having a meltdown right now. I;m looking into it.

>>28694024
Sure, I mean, it's not that much money in the whole scheme of things, but for a mag?

It would have to come with matching furniture to be worth it.
>>
>>28693782
some light fixture parts
>>
>>28694024
How many are even in existence?
>>
>>28694142
apparently so few people are willing to spend 4k for a sour apple flavored magazine.
>>
>>28694142
A few, if your in the land of cheap vodka and Adidas apparel.

In America, pretty much zero. Googling these things doesn't even bring up images of them, anywhere stateside.
>>
>>28693966
>they still have to make it through customs.
Oh man, if those go "missing" like some of the shit I've ordered, I will laugh heartily.
>>
>>28694278
I have no doubt that they will wonder why the fuck the package was insured for such a huge amount and take a quick peek to find "stolen military equipment."

How much shit have you had go "missing"?
>>
>>28694278
Does the laughter help with the pain?

Also, this guy is going to make some serious ass money if he comes up with more shit.

He smells money.
>>
>>28694453
whos to say he isnt just dyeing regular bakelites? why is he making so much money and im just sitting here, not dyeing bakelite mags..
>>
>>28694569
There are probably several distinct variations, if someone is dropping 4000 on obscure as hell mags of all things then they probably know what to look for
>>
>>28694335
Some Russian AKM furniture, two Russian cavnas slings, and a few issue clothing items that I thought would be nifty to have. All never made it past customs, and I have no doubt made their way to some Bulgarian assfuck's AK and closet.

That's not bakelite. That's a polymer mag similar to the plum ones.

This is green bakelite.

A chemist could probably make a dye that could first bleach and then dye the mags, due to the nature of it it is likely that it would not be used so there is a bit of lee way of how weakened it gets from the process.
