Hello /k/ommandos! Sorry if this question has been asked a bunch before...

I'm in the mood for a home defense shotgun and I'm thinking I want a Mossberg 5** Tactical in 12ga. I like the appearance of it, it seems like a solid comfortable weapon and reliable for dealing with the chimpocalypse.

My question is, what is the difference I'm going to see between the Mossberg 500 Tactical, the 590 Tactical and the 590A1 Tactical?

Best as I can tell, component makeup.

Am I as a regular non /k/ommando consumer going to notice a realistic difference between these three worth the extra cost? Again, home defense and standard range target shooting for fun.

Suggestions?
>>
Just get a 500 6 or 8 shot and buy an aftermarket aluminum trigger guard. You won't need the heavy barrel.

I have the 590 and it is a great scatter gun. Got it for 250 with the Knox stock from an old guy that bought it to hunt but couldn't handle 12ga anymore.(Bought it, he ran 1 tube through on a factory stock, one tube with the Knox) The fit is loose (as it should be on a Mossberg), I like the heat shield for aesthetics. I can highly recommend the stock as well if you plan on feeding it a lot of 3".

Benelli M4 with an ATI stock to make it look like a scary assault weapon
>>
>>28684910
>Benelli M4

At also 4-6 times the cost
>>
>>28684917
With 8-10 times the funs. ( also semi-auto for rapid perforation of dindus )
>>
Suggested home def loads? Is it worth trying to do those weird mixes of like, rock salt for first round, buck for second, slug for third?

Or just go all slug and shoot to bear

It depends on your living situation. If you live in an apartment, slugs are out of the question, I would go with birdshot. If you're not too close to neighbors, use buckshot.
>>
>>28687898
>Birdshot
No
>>28685047
Get Federal Premium 2_3/4" #4 Buckshot. This is the load the FBI HRT uses. Hit your target instead of worrying about what will penetrate the walls in your shitty apartment. ANY load worth using to defend yourself will punch through drywall like it isn't there. ANY load that doesn't penetrate several layers of sheetrock will fail to incapacitate Treyvon when it is needed.

Go to a fucking range and shoot cheap import 00 buck until you get gud. Then when you need to use the Federal #4, you will find it's recoil rather pleasant and controllable.

#4 Buck is pretty uncommon. I usually visit walmarts and small gun shops looking for .22 or other ammo deals. I think i've seen #4 twice over the last 10 years.
>>
If you use a tacticool stock for an HD shotgun youre going to have a bad time defending yourself in court when your jury consists of soccermoms.

Now with that said I dont plan on using my scattergat for HD so do you guys really recommend the ATI stock or Knoxx stock? Im debating on going with a tacticool shotgun, leaving it how it is, or maybe find sexy wood furniture.

Also what are some hot loads I can find easily? I have target some 2 3/4 target loads and they are wimpy.

Get some 3" magnum shells, heavier and faster the better.

Pic unrelated, they're soft recoil HD loads.
>>
How about salt rock loads?
>>
>>28688250
>salt rock

Only useful for spreading salt on your driveway. They're not smart.
>>
>>28688101
Pretty much this
I've only had my shotgun for like a week and a half but all the loads ive seen walmart carry are target loads or birdshot. I dont think they even have any buckshot at my walmart

>>28688041
Where can I find this "cheap import 00 buck" you speak of?
>>
>>28688385
Do they have handguns at Walmart, never went too their hunting/firearm section for some reason.
>>
>>28688397
No
They even got rid of their fucking AR-15 and HD shotguns. Its just fudd shit now and I live in a gun friendly state too
So I don't get it. I'll have to shop around the actual gun shops I guess if I wanna find shotgun loads that aren't shit.

I have the 590A1 and the heavy barrel, metal trigger guard, metal safety and bayonet lug are totally worth it to me. Oh also dat dere ghost ring setup.

Pic related, my 590A1
>>
>>28688542
So which stock is this? The ATI one?
Im super tempted to get a tactical stock for mine because the rifle grip just seems boring and fudd-y
>>
>>28688474
I remember looking in their website and not sure about stores but they don't even have .38
>>
>>28688609
Holy shit you're a retard.
>>
Should I get a 500 or 590A1 as my first shotgun?

What is a reasonable price for both?
>>
>>28688609
Just the standard stock that came with it. All I did to it so far was add the bayonet, old sling I had laying around and a laser light combo with pressure switches cause why have naked Tri rails? Fuck if I know what else to put on the other two rails. Was thinking about a sidesaddle for more shells on the gun but I already have a 50rd shoulder slung bandolier and sidesaddle a are more weight on the gun / prone to breakage unless you use the Velcro setup.

Oh and I have a tritium front blade but haven't installed it.
>>
>>28688659
oh
>>
>>28688645

>>
>>28690006
Man Bersa Thunders are so fucking sexy
But
>that .380ACP
and good luck finding one that isnt $300 or more now. Fuck I'd pick one up but for $300 I could get a much better handgun.
>>
>>28688173
As I stated above (second post) I really like the Knox recoil reducing stock I have. Soaks up the recoil from 3" 000 like a sponge.
>>
>>28690240
Nothing wrong with .380 anon. Hell +p is on par with standard 9mm for force and +p+ is a tad better. Also, with the ad Ent of more modern JHP ammo, you can get .380 that expands by over 70%.
>>
>>28688173
Hornady critical defense buckshot is a really hot 2 3/4 load, 8 00 pellets at 1600 fps
>>
Im helping out someone and she wants a DP12 double barrel. What are /k/ thoughts?

I want to get her a Mossberg or a gun similar.
>>
>>28691103
It's a cool gun but hardly the best HD option. It's essentially a double barrel with a pump action. Reliable enough but really just get her a maverick 88 or Mossberg 500 if she's choosey
>>
>>28691271
She said she wanted it because it could hold 16 rounds.
>>
>>28691433
If she can't hit with 6 rounds, she ain't gonna make it...
>>
Best I can find locally at all shops is:
"Mossberg 590 Pump 12Ga 3" 20" Blue 6 Position Collapsible Stock Cylinder 3" 9Rd Flex Bead 51672"

for $519.

Sound about right or would I be better off trying to find it online and have an FFL receive it for $40-50
>>
>>28694067
Armslist.....
>>
>>28687778
Hol'up.

This screenshot claims you can convert a Maverick 88 to an ersatz 590 by swapping barrels and magazine tubes...

...really? 'Cause that sounds brilliant. Has anyone tried that?

How come in the side shell holders people put 3 face up, 3 face down? Is it just tacticool or is there some reason
>>
>>28696106
Most people do it for tacticool because it looks cool.

But the real reason is taking in consideration how you're reloading. If you're loading the tube mag you want to pull the shells down. If you're loading a shell through the ejection port, you want to pull up and insert over the top of the gun.
>>
>>28696106
It's for dynamically altering your tactical reload methodology in the workspace

How is this for an intro video

Anyone recommend any dummy rounds for drills? Something that I can practice firing, reloading, movement, etc at night without fear of setting a round off in my house
>>
>>28691103
Anyone else?
>>
>>28696481
it was probably the corporate number

>>28696516
I've been using the a-zoom snap caps but they get chewed up pretty easily. You might want to check out the ones on ebay because they're usually cheaper too.
>>
>>28694282
It's true. Everything can be swapped except the safety.
>>
>>28696610

it was the corporate number. If you go to the description, it takes you to their company website and Contact Us has just a general number and info email
