>>28648730 My thoughts as well. It's like there's enough parts attached to the barrel alone to build a Mak out of. I don't know how comfortable I'd be buying a gun that I don't understand how it works.
I WANT TO BUILD AN SKS like a modern, american version that can take an ar10 barrel and still clip-fed, 223 up to 338 federal (but I want to start with 6.5 grendel), and utilize existing trigger packs from an ak or mossberg 500 action. it will have adj. gasblock, optional FAL type recoil buffer system, and ambi-capable charging handle/extractor
I'm having trouble visualizing what to do about the trigger group and the BCG, there is a ton of room marked in pic related thats just, empty space, anyone care to hear the rest of my idea?
>>28649418 I dont eat junk food. or watch fappable animus. and I doubt many people had the intention of re-creating an sks as a US-wide, rifle where you can have it in NY, NJ, CA and w/e other commie state there is. A simple barrel extension/adapter/chamber can mate an AR barrel blank easily. longer fat chamber means higher throat pressure tolerance, also means a spot to mount a couple slots of 1913 rail where the leaf sight was. yugo gasblocks can be drilled out for more settings to deal with pressure spikes with different [caliber] ammo. put the blueprints up online for free and we have an open source, firearm that the entire country has easy access to.
All I need are yugo m56 and chinese stamped blueprints and measurements and I can start working in CAD
>>28649970 >I doubt many people had the intention of re-creating an sks as a US-wide, rifle where you can have it in NY, NJ, CA and w/e other commie state there is. That's pretty smart, actually. This thing's going to have an integral mag a la SKS?
>>28650001 but of course, with multi caliber support, from 5.56 up to 7.62R, maybe 300 winmag, and optional specific cal 20rd integral mag. the mag will have to be moved back towards the trigger guard I think, hopefully it will still fit in a original sks stock
I want to work out a system or adpater floorplate thing where it will take some kind of standardized magazines, ar10/15, AK5.45/7.62, Rem700 etc. probably only one type will be possible, but i wont know until I can figure out what kind of trigger pack I can replace the SKS's with. and do something about the BCG
>>28648501 Not really. The yugo gas system adds some complexity and new points of failure, but discounting that, It's pretty straight forward. Most everything has a stupid simple purpose. It has many parts due to this though. See the gas system.
On an AK the gas piston is locked to the bolt by a pin. On the SKS it's one piece that bumps to a spring loaded connector rod that likes to fly out across the room.
The trigger pack is a bit complex due to how the safety works... But 90% of it's reasons for doing stuff is either to simplify manufacture or simplify cleaning.
A simplified SKS would probably be like that similar egyptian DI gun in x39.
>>28650160 This Anon >>28650282 has a point, you'd be competing with the existing AK and SKS rifles. On the other hand, the allure of fixed-mag 5.56 carbine could be enough to draw people in. I know I'd buy one.
Of course, it could backfire badly and we lose your creation AND the SKS in commie states. As a NY resident, that scares me. Just make the thing look uber-fudd and we shouldn't have any issues.
>>28650282 nobody is gonna be buying ammo at $6+ a shot man, why would I design a big boy FiveseveN? >>28650300 I found a couple rapidshare links to original cryillic schematics for the Tula's I'm guessing. but rapidshare is dead. anything else I have found is being sold from sketchy Freepdf.com type sites. maybe forgotten weapons would be cool enough to make measurements for me, if they still have one
>>28650332 but existing AK's are banned by name in a few states, and more to come if the liberal idiocy gains traction. AWB is being proposed for WA ffs. SKS have only one chambering, sadly, while the 30.cal is legal for hunting, the original barrel is inaccurate, and the round lacks long range efficiency.
I think the biggest reason for this project would be a sleeper combat rifle. like an AR in a monte carlo stock, it can take any ammo you can find a barrel for, and will take an existing platform's triggers.
my marketing plan is "straight pull bolt-action, with adjustable gas system ;)"
>>28650282 as for cost, initially it will pretty much just be the cost of a couple rifles, functioning or not, and some time in a Fablab. to print poly parts to spec [minus springs] to test function. not going into detail with the rest yet
