from a realistic standpoint i have no idea how half of the races in WH40k can be considered as any threat to the impirium of men.
Orks - they mostly rely on melee, they are all supposed to be mowed down by mounted MG's and artillery before they even get close.
their pathetic exucuses for tanks and artillery pieces dont stand a chance
Chaos - the chaos marines make the minority of the forces. the rest are demons or mutated melee specialists. same crap with orks.
except this time their armor is even worse becuause they all use scrawny legs instead of treads/wheels that could easily be blown up and toppled down.
Necrons- powerful but very slow. its impossible for them to storm an enemy position considering how slow they move. sure they will cause more human casualties but the end result will still be similar to orks.
real threats to the impirium - Tau, eldar, tyranids
Orks and Chaos are literally without number. That can't be understated - for every one you kill, another will take it's place. That's the real reason they're up there with the Nids as the most threatening forces. Chaos will eventually die when humanity dies, leaving Orks and Nids to just duke it out forever.
But yeah, /tg/ is the better place to ask about it.
Orks, fuckhuge and can soak up .50 rounds easy and their are a LOT of them, and their tanks and artillery do stand a chance because their big, mean and plentiful, like orks.
Chaos, on top of being a corrupting force they have literal hellmagic.
Necrons, can comeback from the dead.
orks definetly aren't infinite and considering that they start dropping like sacks of rotten meat as as soon as they are 300 meters from the defensive position.
a lasgun is supposed to kill them in like 3-5 shots considering its strong enough to kill a relgular human in just 1.
chaos is infinite but not on the battlefield.
Tau aren't really a threat. Sure, tactically they are superior to the Imperium, but they don't really care about destroying the Imperium. They just care abiut their stupid system and space fish commie nonsense.
'Nids and Chaos are fucking horrifying. 'Nids eat planets, and use the biomass to grow stronger... even if they eat planets infested with just plants and basic life, they grow stronger. Genestealers can turn a Hive World of several billion people into a Genestealer cult in a matter of generations. Because of the pollution on these worlds and how the genestealers operate, they go largely undetected until it's too late.
Chaos are scary as well, in that you'll constantly be bombarded by the most excruitiatingly painful thoughts until either you join them, die, or a daemon skullfucks you and explodes out of your body.
Orks never stop reproducing, and the Necrons nearly destroyed life millennia ago.
Elven faggots aren't really a threat either.
you have those backwards in terms of threat.
Tau and elder are probably the weakest factions. Tau are a fledgling new race with a very insignificant amount of space and population and elder are past their prime.
Oaks are the most numerous faction in the the galaxy by far. Chaos marines are shit traitors but daemons are literally endless as long as humans and eldar exist. Necrons have the most advanced tech of all the factions.
The only thing you got right was the tyranids.
Orks are the most mary sue without being actually annoying. Why? Because their tech works through willpower alone. Shit's fun. They'd be the strongest race in the galaxy were they united as one.
>murderbots, potentially with souls, just want to kill everyone on their lawns and go back to sleep.
>have hard to destroy bodies and basically have a scroll of recall at the ready to port out at a moments notice.
>also unknown tech and ftl capabilities since they have no warp precense anymore.
>creatures from beyond the stars that want to eat all living life.
>they come in all shapes and sizes, from the lowly genestealer (think alien but instead of getting chestburst after a facefull of alien wingwong, any kids you have are part genestealer and want to murdernom everything else) to the arch-lictor.
>Also their ships are giant tyranids, and there very precense in realspace makes ftl travel impossible.
>and they throw phage cells down onto planets in advance of their fleets that mutate all living organisms to start growing much faster so there's plenty of biomass once the fleet makes landfall.
>fucking mushroom men that like to fight.
>their collective mental energies make it so that stupid shit like their patch jobs on gear and ships work.
>eg painting a baneblade red, and crewing it with orks will make it move faster.
>why orks are a threat
There's literally billions of them. Same reason the zerg are a threat in Starcraft. It is literally impossible to carry enough ammo to kill them all.
>why chaos are a threat
There's literally billions of them, and while they are slightly easier to kill than orks they also have more powerful and accurate weaponry, making them slightly more of a glass cannon.
>why necrons are a threat
Going by tabletop, they take a shitload of dakka to drop. They have the time needed to close the gap. Going by the lore/books, they basically have LOICs for support.
just lore. they believe shit into existence. like they talk about the imperium dissembling a gun from a dead ork. it was like a barrel and a pipe and a couple screws or some shit
in that case you're probably right.
I think that most of use are misunderstanding ops points anyways. I think op is trying to point out how equipment and tactics for factions squares up against the imperiums not that faction full might.
posted it on /v/ too, ya dumb faggot.
eldar got rekt 10k years ago and never recovered.
orks are gorrillion strong and have psychic fields
chaos has demons and legions of its own
crons are damn near unkillable
They are incredibly powerful psychics with the IQ of a moldy pickle. As long as they believe something hard enough, it happens. An excellent example is that the spaceships they cobble together lack any form of life support... because they are too stupid to know they need it.
I just can't remember where where I got this, but there was at least one time that the Salamandras have somehow managed to get rid of all the spores and eradicate the Ork infestation on a planet entirely.
Their blood is also jizz, so for every ork you kill a dozen more orks will grow in ground like a cross between a potato and a mushroom and eventually pop out of the ground.
Once your planet is hit by orks, it's permanent.
Dude, you don't get it, the imperium is being hit by a dozen enemy factions at the same time on the frontier and from within.
Orks were a bio engineered warrior race. They can rip a normal man in half with their hands and can take enough damage from gunfire that could kill an elephant and keep going...they can fight with severed limbs and hell, even their decapitated heads can be sewn back on and they can regenerate and come back to life.
As for their tech, it's mostly made from scrapyard junk and is on average can range from pre industrial weapons to 21st century guns and vehicles but occassionally they can make high tech weapons and vehicles from plasma guns to robots, teleporters and spaceships that often catch guard commanders "off guard"
Chaos infortunately is tied to human emotions and thus is eternal, best we can do is contain the demons and quell rebellions.
Necons are unstoppable in cannon, tgey are not simply just robots, but are honestly freaking ghosts.
So think of a terminator skeleton t-800 with liquid metal like t-100 a borg virus that keeps their physical material bodies going.
Unlesd you completely destroy a necron and actually witness it happen and say melt it down for goid measure, any damages, blown apart or shot up necron warriors teleport back and are repaired so your rarely putting a dent in their numbers.
>Orks - they mostly rely on melee, they are all supposed to be mowed down by mounted MG's and artillery before they even get close.
there are fucking hundreds of thousands of works in single waaaghs, their tactic is to overrun the enemy with speed, numbers, and dakka. thousands of bullets firing in the general direction is gonna hit something.
>Chaos - the chaos marines make the minority of the forces. the rest are demons or mutated melee specialists. same crap with orks.
are you shitting me? do you even fucking read the books? Chaos forces are mostly made up by Traitor Guard, Imperial Guardsmen with identical doctrines. and Daemons themselves are metaphysical warp manifestations; they run hella fast and cause insanity and plague where-ever they tread. its a bloodbath and then they disappear because they can't hold their physical manifestations you cuck.
>Necrons- powerful but very slow. its impossible for them to storm an enemy position considering how slow they move. sure they will cause more human casualties but the end result will still be similar to orks.
yeah, necrons main objective is the most possible human casualties as possible. 90% of them aren't even space fairing and are resurrected via tombs established during the Eldar-Necron wars, which are mostly located near population centers and they just keep getting back up after dying. Killing a necron in lore is incredibly hard.
don't speak on things you have no knowlege about you cuck.
Orks - Besides being the most numerous faction in the galaxy are also one of the most durable. They can withstand great trauma and are far stronger than your average guardsman. While they do have a preference for melee they have no problems with guns. Also they can't just will ammo into existence; they do subconsciously manipulate reality, but in ways already said. Such as believing red vehicles go faster or having equipment that only works in their hands.
Chaos - The traitor Maine's are indeed the minority and are very splintered. That being said Chaos isn't all just daemons and mutated melee specialists. In fact most of the time the vast bulk of chaos armies are corrupted humans who are more than happy to shoot you from far away. Its not uncommon for Imperial forces to fight against traitor guardsmen or pdf's or whole planets which have fallen to Chaos. Just read about the Siege of Vraks, especially if you have a boner for trench warefare.
I hate that retcon...while orks have minir warp abilities and their single minded force of will auds them, they still build mechanical stuff that work. It's kyber pass levels of gun smithy of junkyard pot metal but ork mek boyz have basic scientific and mechanical engineering principles biocoded in their DNA
They build stuff haphazardly and very trail and error, but sonetimes they build stuff that is more successful than human tech due to tge mechanicus's religious backwards dogma.
An ork slugga is not simply a carved piece of wood that magically becomes a gun, it's just a rough made 1911 but due to ork will, is glock reliable in their handsbut if used by a human, it's a Taurus.
Necrons - They have the most advanced technology out of all the races, and can one shot many of their opponents. They're ftl is faster than any others except for maybe webway travel and only their basic infantry unit is slow. Plus inky a fraction of these guys are even awake, and if they were all to arise there wouldn't be anyone capable of defeating them. They already purged the galaxy of life once.
The Tau and Eldar are far too small and weak to hurt the Imperium directly, especially the Tau. Their ftl is very slow and they occupy a very tiny fraction of the galaxy with only a tiny portion of the Imperiums resources. If it werent for the Tyranids appearing the Imperium would have likely kept on grinding the Tau into dust.
The Eldar are more dangerous in that they are master manipulators, but they could never directly cause serious harm to the Imperium. Their power was broken with the birth of Slaanesh and likely wont recover without aa miracle.
The Tyranids though are without aa doubt the greatest threat both the Imperium and the galaxy at large face. All the Tyranids theyve fought have been just scout fleets, with the massive main body still centuries away. The galaxy is fucked without aa miracle to stop them
>Imperium of Man
>Psyker Jesus reunites Mankind and tries to prevent them from being horribly raped and murdered for the rest of their species lifetime from Xenos.
>Powerful mutant Psykers come out of hiding and enslave everyone. Subjugate all races they come across and dominate them until they serve "The Greater Good".
Also, as others have mentioned, Orks are just too good at a basic level. A Warboss decides he's going to fling him and his bois at some humies and so he straps a bunch of rockets to a mountain and loads it with dakka, halftrax and tellyportas. The Rok lands on some highly populated Agri-world and da bois WAAAAGHH out of da Rok.
The Imperium of man also thinks that the computer, mobile phone, laptop or tablet your viewing 4chan is on is heresy despite having more processing and calculation power than the navigational and combat targetting computers their battleships have.
A badic car mechanic of today has more scientific and technological know how than a tech priest.
You have to remember that 40k is a technological and intellectual dark age for humanity where we've gone backwards in progress.
Hell despite having plasma guns, 20mm ww2 bofors are considered amazing weapons.
I don't know man, tyranids range from microscopic bacteria and parasites to giant insects the size of aircraft carriers that spit acid and rip and tear with claws and eats people lime a big handfull of sunflower seeds.
and orks grow from spores of dead orks... so good luck getting rid of them with anything less than exterminatus
ps tau's technological advancement in relative time to other races is fucking insane
Because all the technology the empire has is limited. As in they only maintain it until it brakes, and then they recycle what they can without being able to reproduce it. Every piece of weaponry they lose, is lost forever. That's why they kinda worship technology.
Just like they worship the V8 in Mad Max
Think about the most swole nigga you've ever seen online, multiply that by ten to the power of ten. It's fucking bicep is the width of your torso and it's genetic origin is purpose built as a brute force method of winning in a desperate war.
They wear metal slabs enough to deflect most modern rifle calibers with ease, and will take multiple shots from futuristic line weapons said to be capable of blowing limbs off.
These are the grunts, numbering in the millions.
Chaos is another pain in the ass. Think how bad the Iraqi army deserted during the Iraq war, now imagine being on the Iraqi side- and those deserters becoming frenzied fanatical fighters dosed up with chems to the point where they cannot feel pain and act like crazied wild animals out to kill (you).
If you think one Arnold Terminator is bad to deal with, think about an entire army of them except they don't even have the decency to die after you call in an A-10 and several rounds of arty on them, because they just teleport away and come back again.
>because they just teleport away and come back again.
I was under the impression that their programming, experiences and memories are just uploaded to a new body on a tomb world. The necron robotic body itself is destroyed unless it can repair itself.
The Imperium doesn't have technology. It has factories that produces things way beyond their understanding. After thousands of years, the data has been corrupted beyond all measure and are using bugged programs and whatever scavenged thing they got back. All mankind's science has been lost to the ages. The Imperium is a medieval state/late Roman Empire with the spirit forgotten, rotten from inside, besieged on all fronts and at the edge of collapse.
They've managed to purify planets from orks without exterminatus but that takes generations of constant fighting. And even then you can't be really sure about the fuckers not sprouting out of the ground at any give moment.
Orks have an insane reproduction rate and can go head on with a space marine who have to be genetically modified or bred. Plus like the humans with the emperor the orks too have a hive cast that have passed down knowledge from another race.
Chaos have the traitor legions that can no doubt take on the emperors finest and have hellspawn on top and Necrons are pretty much immortal.
Its the extension of the black death comet theory.
An asteroid rushes by/crashes into earth and releases a virus or in this case spores that grow up to 10 ft that reproduce at the rate you shed skin.
If it wasn't for the basically unlimited manpower of Orks and Tyranids, Necrons would probably be the faction that would "win" WH40k. I mean shit, they are impossible to kill, their weapons are strong and their tech is thousands of years ahead.
When the tombworlds actually wake up for real, there is going to be a shit-tonne of Necrons and nothing to stop them.
The Orks in 40k are some of the most absurd creatures in the lore. They were engineered to be weapons. When they die they release spores that turn into more Orks, they are literally a type of sentient mobile fungus. They quickly overrun worlds simply due to how they reproduce. If there are no humans to fight them, they fight themselves, a never ending war that doesn't weaken their numbers, but causes them to become more numerous.
They are THE most powerful psykers in the lore. More powerful than Eldar, more powerful than Chaos. They just can't control their psionic potential. Their giant piles of junk fashioned to look like a mech WORKS only because the Orks BELEIVE it works. It functions through psionic control. Orks use sharpened bits if metal as blades, these shouldn't cut human armor plating, but they do. The Orks BELEIVE their blades can chop through human metal, so they DO.
As an Ork wins fights it literally grows stronger and larger, psionic potential does this.
Orks are genetically engineered to be able to heal from almost any wound. Unless you KILL it it will come back to full health very quickly.
The only advantages humans have are their space vessels allowing them to destroy all life on a planet, that is the only thing they can do once Orks get ahold of a planet.
Fortunately for the lore Orks love to kill each other as much as any other race, if they ever figured out a way to come together and fight as one cohesive group a never ending war party fueled by an unstoppable psionic urge to destroy all life would cause an army of trillions to wipe out all life, no species would stand against a combined Ork WAAAAAAAAAAGH as it raged through the galaxy. Honestly, the way the lore allows the Orks to do almost anything they would probably just BELEIVE hard enough to rip into the Warp and destroy the gods of chaos.
>you will never be an ork mekboy
>you will never cobble-together a fucking teleporter or machine greater than a Titan
>you will never meme things into existence
So basically they're channelling /pol/'s meme magic. That's beyond amazing.
The problem with the tau is that they are comparable not-retarded to everything else in the setting, because they arent grimdark for grimdarkness sake, and also reasonably use tech instead of worshipping toasters as magic.
>Orks are the most powerful psykers meme
Just because they can sustain their fuckery doesn't mean they can accomplish any greater feats of psychical prowess. Making a piece of metal cutty isn't as impressive as creating a psionic lighhouse encompassing majority of the galaxy, forseeing how the world will end, summoning warpstorms capable of destroying entire systems or willing crystalized Warp energy(wraithbone) into existance.
No, that's wrong you fuck. The gellar field produced by the Orkz isn't powerful enough to fuck over reality. If ork equipment is held together by spit, duct tape and hope, the field provides the hope.
well the orks were made as a weapon by a race of lovecraftian gods as the perfect weapon against metal skeletons that are nearly indestructible.
Plus orks believe colors make something more powerful. Yellow paint on missiles makes bigger explosions and because of the Waaag (or whatever) it's true.
What you all seem not to understand is that the whole Ork psionics is a placebo effect taken to the extreme. "It just werks" when you don't really think about it. The red buggy than the non-red is faster only when noone is measuring their velocity. Explosion caused by a stick of dynamite painted yellow is only stronger when there is noone to percieve that, because everyone is already mad with adrenaline/Waagh/both. That's both their beauty and their weakness.
Except more of them start to appear after a few years, making feral tribes and attracting more orks to the world.
The only way to actually end an ork infestation is to straight up exterminatus the entire planet.
No, you just have to use flamers to keep the spores from turning into new orks.
Orks give out spores when they fight, that spread on the air and grow into new orks. This is why they love fighting, as it is their means of reproduction.
With enough fire, you can completely purge a planet of orks.
You can wipe out the largest masses of them, but your planetary defense forces are going to have to stay on top of it from then on-- they'll keep popping up again in remote areas.
I'm thinking you could get them to the point where orks are essentially a seasonal problem like hurricanes or blizzards.
Without the numbers, and with proper procedures, orks just aren't very dangerous.
It was a gradual thing, like the fall of the Roman empire.
You had the Trayvon Martin shooting, Sandy Hook, Syria, Ukraine, and all sorts of /pol/ and /int/ shitposting.
At the moment, we're what the Byzantines were to the Romans.
You know jack shit about the lore of 40k. This is bait for sure.
Exactly, the other races can do more with their psychic abilities because they can FOCUS on those abilities.
The Orks literally can't. They lack the simple conceptual framework to allow themselves to ever create wraithbone or warp storms. They don't know they can do that, and they can never be educated that they can.
For me, the most interesting part of the Orks is that according to lore, they used to be domesticated warriors for the Old Ones.
So whatever faction finds the interface that the Old Ones used to control the orks will have the most powerful military force to exist in the galaxy since the Eldar were in their prime.
They explain in the fluff that that doesn't always work because the spores can dig deep underground, and are to numerous to burn everything. Hell, they're even immune to radiation.
how does that work against tyranids?
Do they eat the spores when they "process" a planet?
You can purge a planet of them but it can take upwards of a century. You'll have to patrol every inch of the place regularly and burn the remains of dead orks. Eventually you'll wipe them out or rather your great-grandchildren will.
Tyranids basically devour the entire biosphere, atmosphere, and a good chunk of the crust of the planets they land on. They only leave 100% dead rocks behind them. Nothing survives.
i always thought it was strange that no one mentions that tryanids also take metal ore from planets as well.
If every Necron was awake and united could they defeat the Tyranid?
Can I just say
I know W40k is the epitome of crapsack, and theres really no "good" guys, and if you're not doing fucked up shit for fun your doing other fucked up shit out of necessity, but I always thought the Imperium of man was kinda fucked up even back when the emperor wasn't a desiccated myth, what with the whole, exterminate all non-humans thing.
also I'll leave this here.
Dunno why, but it is.
Probably because it's so nerdy and unsalvagable that they can't even begin to be pretentious, thus cutting out most of the drama that plagues the other boards.
It's all because the entire universe is designed as a scary status quo. It's al designed to be a scary hellish, grimdark future where there is barely any hope of survival. The only options to end this status quo are:
>A. Orks get their shit together in one big WAAAAGH, everyone dies
>B. Emperor dies, becomes a new Chaos God, everyone dies
>C. Tyranid main fleet arrives, everyone dies.
>D. Whatever is chasing the Tyranids arrives, everyone dies
>E. Void Dragon awakens, everyone dies
The only way out of this, is for the Emperor to die, and be resurrected, then going on an awesome killing spree reducing every other faction to dust. But guess what? THAT'S HERESY.
So, all in all, given that every other race holds a trump card to eventually destroy humanity, and humanity's card cannot be played thanks to bureaucracy, every single other faction is dangerous as fuck.
I though it wasn't quite as mental as that. More on the lines of:
>Orks are riding a truck for days and days to get to battle, it never even occurs to them that they need to refuel it, truck magically just soldiers on without fuel.
Altho they have psyker meme fuel going on, the underlying truck still has to more-or-less work. Their vehicles and tanks can still get knocked out, so they must be mechanically viable on some, admittedly reduced, level.
In Gaunts Ghosts they had the concept of being able to dial up/down the power. Some guy turns it up until it will shoot the whole energy cell in one shot, and it managed to decapitate a chaos marine with a headshot
Yes, they can be uploaded into a new body, but with each upload a part of their mid dies a bit more, and they can't afford that so they emphasize repair of the old body- you have to actually trap the body with dampening field to prevent its recovery and upload.
