Design a ship/doctrine that won't be intimidated by pic related.
Extra points if not railgun/laser/magic
A giant amphibious battleship that merely crawls up out of the water and over the peninsula. It can rest atop it and provide cover as the rest of the ships pass through.
Or just have some fucking planes fly ahead.
Assault destroyer, proud to serve!
Pic is Straight of Hormuz. It's an important shipping lane, choke point, and super dangerous for Navy ships if anybody anywhere near by wants to contest control of it.
Design a ship specifically to deal with it. What would it look like?
Defeated by a dozen pic related with missiles
create a USMC base that houses tactical nukes as well as two Wasp class and their supporting ships. Throw in some land based mobile Harpoon launchers and have them constantly practice against old ships. Plus have a rapid deployment squadron of naval helicopters that would take part in mining the straits or would take part in anti-ship operations.
Then get an airbase in Saudi Arabia that has B52's and B2's and a few raptors and EW aircraft
other than that, nothing.
The peninsula is the boat and the river moves past the boat instead.
Send in the ACE before hand with a couple nukes and digging equipment, have them dig the nukes down deep enough to effectively turn the entire peninsula into a deep water channel.
Game Set Match.
Sup. No railguns, no lasers, just the Advanced Long Range Gun system that's already in production.
A couple of these would straighten that strait out.
Sorry, Oman, you've got to take one for the team.
Just a team of DARPA engineers in a room with a box full of 1920s pop-sci magazines.
They'll figure something out.
dont need no extra points bitch nigga
> Drop a fuckton of nukes on the tip of the strait
> Craters now deeper than Challenger's Deep
> Ships can now go through like in any other river
Or more realistically, use hovercrafts to go over the strait so you don't have to do the same steering a ship would need to do. If we want to go into kinda fantasy territory, make something like the Pupa or the Shagohod from MGS, which is pretty much a hovercraft with tracks. I don't know why but it seems like a good idea.
> Some facing up
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE THAT'S THE WRONG DIRE-
> Captain to rocket crew, the Strait is on the nose
> Engine output at maximum, we're gonna fly a ship over those goatfuckers today
> Fly ? But captain ...
> Ship goes underground
> Yfw Underground Dreadnought Nimitz becomes a thing
Fund it Langley.
>small boat is not a serious threat
You need to be at least 18 to post here
>that close to the shore
>in that kind of a choke point
>in any way a good idea
I honestly can't tell anymore who is trolling when it comes to carriers.
I know so many people that think that carriers are basically a one ship wrecking crew that cannot be stopped.
>Driver at the wheel.
>Ready for impact
>do you even GLA?
Oops here's the pic. Mk 71 8" gun
And that is exactly the reason small boats will get fucking rekt now whenever they approach a naval ship. And you think a carrier passing through the strait with hostile intentions is going to just let a boat come up to it?
And besides, Japs were flying armed planes into wooden carriers in WW2 and they still got the job done. Your little boat fantasies are unrealistic.
navy fag here
Operations Specialist on an Arleigh Burke, we're designed to get hit by missiles for the carriers and launch tomahawks if we're lucky. We literally suck at everything else because our offensive weapons are garbage.
Also he's talking about fast attack crafts that are gonna shoot shit like RPG's at us up close to kill our radars and sensors. We can't defend against a swarm of those effectively at all due to lack of DAKKA
What class destroyer would you rather be on?
What changes would you make to destroyer design?
Great, so every sailor is going to be humping the ship's legs rather than running the damn thing.
