I will be cutting the piece to the same size as the original glass, which when you remove the rubber edging will fit against the sheet metal lip which I'll use self tapping screws to secure it to the body. Also gonna caulk around the inside edge to seal it from elements.

I have had to do some pretty rigged mods to vehicles in the past. Use some good silicone based sealant so it can expand and contract.

Also don't skimp on the number of self tapping screws/screw it down while the silicone sealant is wet. Sounds like a solid fix.
